I'd go with the pink, especially since you'll be relicing it. Looking forward to see how it came out. Thanks for the video's, came here because Ted Woodford recommend your channel a while ago and I'm glad he did!
I’d go shell pink with tasteful aging. Yes sir that’s the ticket and you’re welcome! Now I must start my journey to find a pocket bass of my own! So thank you sir😊
I think shell pink would be really cool with a matching headstock. And since you mentioned white, I think some competition mustang style type of racing stripes could be really cool to go along with it. Or possibly even in that gold top color but I’m not sure how that would turn out tho.
The tuner screw hole fix reminds me of when the strap button on the horn of my bass was pulling out. Filled the hole with Vic Firth brand wood shavings from the floor around the drum kit, and it's been fine for years even without glue.
Ugh! The secret is obsessive searching multiple times a day for years! I’ve stopped buying parts for parts sake though because most sellers won’t ship to Canada
Right? The fancier Ralph Keller pickup includes four bezel mounting screws and then threaded pole pieces from the E strings into threaded holes in the bezel.
Personally I'd go with the old tobacco burst on the fretless but then again the gold could have a cool vibe if artfully beat up, kind of like Bill Frisell's Stratotone. Really cool you kept the flag intact, such a cool Wayne Kramer thing going on there.
Always liked these pocket basses. Bet they’d make an interesting tenor guitar conversion, too. I enjoy your fretwork - you get great results with basic tools which is a great approach.
My first bass was a 24" Mann SG from the 70s. A little too floppy and farty. My last bass was a 27" P-bass thing. Fell in love. It was the perfect size for laying in bed and playing.
@@Notaluthier Whatever strings came on my bass stayed on my bass. Even after two trips to two different techs. No idea what they were! The second guy (Hammtone) removed the frets, planed the fingerboard, replaced the same frets and only charged me $140! And still let me keep my strings. Jeremy Hamm. He is on UA-cam. Shell pink goldburst, please! Because the burst family of paint jobs is the best on guitars. Gold center with the shell pink rim! Or the other way around! I don't know! Great video as always!
@@Notaluthier I always enjoy finding out What's in the Case, but I always wish they were longer. But hey, whatever works for you. You have a life, and a kid, and a dog to attend to. ❤
I should have elaborated Pete's would have been green and black and geezers would have his flag on it in the back. But yes that swirl or contour with the paint was great!!i wish I could find em like this
How set are you on having a tone knob? You could always omit the tone knob, and do two volumes only. Or add a pot, and have two volumes and one tone knob.
Subscription well deserved. You have one of those channels that I binge then when I see your new uploads in my feed I'm like o shit I thought I had already subscribed
@Notaluthier I have a squier bullet in good shape from the early 80s. Lmk if you want me to send it your way. It's not in the disrepair that you typically deal with, but I feal like you could make it into something rad🤙
@@nickjackson7136 very cool! There are definitely ways to make any guitar effing awesome! I used to live in DC and they had to change the basketball team from Bullets to wizards…perhaps this squier just needs a little magic! 🪄🧙♂️
I've "converted" heavy gauge bass strings from long to short scale. Kind of a hassle, but it works just fine. Brazil sure beats Canada in general music gear scarcity, but we get around.
Use a dual ganged stereo blend pot, 250k should do, then use the other pot as a tone control. Worked on my mandolin, single coil in the neck, piezo in the bridge, wire the tone pot Gibson 50's style it will keep the hi end intacted. YAH BLESS YOU! Good Fun Channel. Old Sound Guy from Detroit
Would go with a gold top, myself, but that doesn't really work for e without binding and different color back... I guess shell pink would also be rad! Especially given it's such an odd ball bass! Personally I'd have gone for a refinish of that 'murica bass as well - get it back to it's true glorious black. But that's something you can still do eventually if you decide to, I guess...
SHELL PINK cmon man 100% shell pink don’t blow it!
If you're going to relic it do the pink over gold, do a coat or two of gold then the rest in pink then relic it
this
Yes, this!
absolutely this!
Pink with black accents- rock and roll colours
I like the Wayne Kramer paint job. Glad you didn't change it. Gold or Pink is good.
would love to see a Shell Pink Pocket Bass 100%!!
I’m really enjoying your channel. You are the perfect blend of education and humour. Well played sir. 🎸

Shell pink for sure on that bass!
Looking forward to the next video. Shell Pink fretless sounds pretty smooth.
Gold with pink competition stripes!
Gold top for sure
W fuzz sounded gnarly

They are rad! And affordable ones still come up fairly regularly
Gold/pink burst for sure
What a fun project
Definitely gold with a relic finish ❤ from England
Your stuff is always so fun to watch. Thanks!!
Thanks for watching!
Love the concept of that bridge, almost gives me an idea for an experiment 😉
Go for it!
Shell pink is always a winner!
I like your designs that ive seen so far, love to see bass stuff.

Shell pink for sure
Ellin’ and Essin’ all over this thang!

very inspiring. love the build. love the fuzz. tell me where you find all your good parts > : (

I’d go with pink on the other one. I kinda want to try this thing out, seems fun! That bridge pickup is really wild
They are so much fun.
My vote - Shell Pink!
Gold with relic would look suuuper cool
Gold.
The smuggler's dream that bored out body is wild!
I’m considering putting some dioramas in the custom fretless one
That or weed
17:42 Love the simplicity of just the two diagonal screws

Great video man, I never heard about these guitars. And also thank you for sharing those lifehacks, I thought it's forbidden to wash a fretboard.🎸🎸🎸
Guitars are gross! Clean em!
GOLD TOP
Pink AND gold two tone!

Hm.. Shellpink, goldtop.... Tough choice..
Pink 😊
Love using the triangle file. A little more work but I like the results.
One up for Relic Gold! 🔥🥳
Shell pink!!
Gotta vote shell pink. I had a shell pink Squier Vista Musicmaster bass for years and fell in love with the color.
Great video. Love the elling and essing ending.

More gold from the top!!love it bud
Shell pink bro. Gotta be the Shell all the way!

PINK BUDDY PINK!!!
Shell pink for sure, and pin stripe it with the gold.
a light red would be good!
I like gold personally.
Try a different value pot for the blending, or a different taper?
Good idea
Def pink!

Great tone. As for that leather strap; i thought we had set sail on a Spanish galleon.

I appreciate that!
Gold for me. But hey, do your thing. Btw, love your videos. And I'm still waiting for that tour of all your guitars!

shell pink!
About the fading between pickups, your wiring was right but pretty sure you'd need a volumetric pot to get a smooth crossfade. Hope this helps!
Thanks…I was pretty sure it was an original to this circuit pot…but I could be wrong and/or it could be defective
PINK!!!
Dude,I like the flag guitar as well, looks one Geezer Butler or Peter Steel would play!!rock on

allways wanted a pocketbass too, Love the short scale length. Personally play a 22,5 scale mustang so it seems alot more reasonable then my ibanez
Yeah! I don’t see any reason for a bass to be longer scale than 30”. All of my basses are short scale.

Thanks for the tip!
Is it possible you used a log pot instead of linear and that’s why it seems to max out only near the end of the range of the wiper?
I believe it’s an original pot for this circuit but it’s entirely possible that it’s faulty in some way.
always love the videos man

the obvious choice is shell pink, but do a black undercoat, will look sick after relicing
