I live in Germany and bought a 98 320i Touring. I have the Bosch projector headlights. 1 was defect and I bought a used one for 50€. You americans should think about buying these lights in Germany before you buy it in the USA for 4-5hundred bucks.
buy from DDM! i bought mine 1.5 years ago, no problems besides the glue not holding in the glass as well as i would like (i'll reseal it, no problemo), and got them with HID 6k and angel eyes for 125 (both sides)...can't really argue with that.
ZKW is actually an OEM manufacturer for BMW Euro lights. I have plenty of ZKW reflectors with glass covers. Also Bosch and Hella. Currently I'm using Bosch projectors, on came of a 1990 E36 and the other off a 97 E36 in the UK, which I converted to LHD beams.
Dr. Jay Can i go from original BMW 1998 ZKW E36 Touring lights and just switch them over to some Hella or Bosch setup? Or is the plugs and electric atributes differant. Sorry for bad english.
hanefar11 Plugs are the same in all except Compact, so if the replacement lights come off a compact they wont fit the plug in your Touring. Plugs are the same on the rest regardless of manufacturer. If your car is Euro then make sure you don't get lights from US, because they don't have the parking lights in the high beam lense like Euro does.
Plastic halogen headlights are USA only because of the Safety Regulations. Euro-Spec normal halogens (no lens) were made out of glass. You also tell from the "Made in the USA" in the plastic headlight of yours that you hate so much. Other than that great tutorial man, keep it up :)
I got the DEPO angel eyes. It uses the retro angel eyes look. So not that CCFL shit that doesn't seem right on such an old car. I have modded my auto height adjustment from my original lights to my DEPO's. shit works like a charm! I drive a E36 convertible BTW :)
What are your opinions of the hella 9006/9006 euro reflector headlights? They could be the best of the bunch, better than the h1 and h7. Reason being is you can modify the hir2 bulb to fit into the 9006 bulb socket, they both have the exact same bulb geometry, and focal point. The main difference being is the 9006 bulb only puts out 1000 lumens and the hir2 bulb puts out 1850 lumens. The hir2 bulb also has a more tightly would filament, therefore creating a more focused beam. also the high beam is considerably better a regular 9005 bulb puts out 1700 lumens, however the hir1 , which is the high beam, puts out 2400 lumens. I would just like to know what your opinions are and why you didn't include these particular headlights in your review?
I modified a set of the HIR bulbs to fit my US-spec reflector headlights. They put TONS more light than 9006 bulbs. I want to upgrade to euro projectors but I don't want to give up the HIR bulbs. I can't find anything on the Hella 9006/9006 euro reflectors you mentioned. Do you have a link?
11 year old video, amazing!
And he got a decent video camera 👌🏼

@fiveightandten given it's been a year or two, what is your opinion on current LEDs? Do you think they'd be effective if used with a lens? :)
