i got both: play IS unbeatable in terms of drums, complexity etc but the tracker is better for making whole arrangements... together the way to go is to do melody on the tracker, perc/rythm on the play. and maybe one more additional synth as slave and you'll have strooooong setup
Nice tutorial / introduction. Doesnt look like there's any way to route audio out different channels, say if you wanted to chain some effects on only a few of the tracks... In terms of interface, and playability, it really looks fun. Especially for a casual like myself.
good stuff. cant wait to get mine, would b cool if you did a video of how to input your sounds, eg: say maybe film speech as I use those in my mixes and music
I designed some of the Play+ presets so I have a pre-release unit. If you see the likes of Balloon, Borgnine, Lone Birds and others I like to do you know it was me, heh heh.
The lack of propper slicing is still agonizing🕯 although u can record /export now... Randomizing the sample start is the only way to approach slicing for now
@@Digiphex yes I understood right away, I discovered your Chanel just recently but as far as I see, your videos are always very clear about your approach and definitely very inspiring ! 🙏🙏🙏✨✨✨ There's a new firmware update out (Midi-focus ) didn't install it yet tho. Btw I was surprised and extremely amused to see play with afx station since It's my core live-smash setup since the play is out>hence I'd love to see more of what you would do with this combo🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏
Whoops there is no start randomizer.. So it's just liverecord samplestart... My bad... Btw:don't you think the sample pool memorie is outrageusly small or is it just me?
@@gummo187 Honestly, my method is to take 3 or 4 favorite songs and remake them, then use all that info to create my own thing out of it. On paper the device could be better but I just kind of use it as on e creative tool.
I kinda wish the generative patterns could be applied to MIDI tracks. I understand that it won't be able to fill it with random samples, but the midi patterns would be useful to send to devices
Hey I was wondering if you still have the polyend? I just got and have been messing around with it. Kinda bummed there wasn’t a synth engine on it. Seems like a very expensive drum machine
I still have the Play and the Tracker too. Perhaps they should have marketed the Play as a drum machine? So let's pretend they did, is it better than the Roland TR8-S for the same price? Yes, far better, and it is a MIDI sequencer as well and plays in crazy different directions and patterns and you can see the trigs on every track, and it is set up for chromatic notes play so you can do a bass and the house chord as well, where TR8-S is not set up for this. You have a good point there, but I would say try it as a drum machine then. Put all the Roland sounds in it 707, 727, 808, 909 and go crazy with one hell of a drum machine.
What a fantastic look at the polyend play for a newbie. Thanks so much.
As a Tracker user and someone that's got a bad case of GAS for this thing, this video is the most useful I've watched.

Best review for my neural network!!! ✨✨🙏🙏🙏✨✨
Very nice tutorial as usual thanks
Great review. I feel like you missed two big points: 1)Exporting stems(recent update) and 2)Bouncing between samples in a folder.

You just remove the SD card and put sounds on it.
@@Digiphex definitely the best tutorial on YT. Im slowly learning mine bit by bit
@@LegPuppy Thanks!

@@Digiphexright on, i heard some of their new synth sounds and they were all solid

I pre-slice 16 samples and put them in a folder. Then with the various algorithms I can come up with things I wouldn't normally think about.

I'm here for the comments.
Awesome!
Great review as always, I plan to get a rack like this in the near future
You getting into modular?
@@Digiphex So far I used only virtual modular by Arturia; moog modular v, semi modular Arp 2600 v, never touched a real one, hopefully one day
As a sequencer, do you prefer this or oxi one?
Just for a dedicated sequencer I would go with the Oxi One.
Great review! Any chance you are thinking of releasing a sample pack or two for the play?
Thanks, I just might do that.
@@Digiphex I'd enjoy seeing more theory on your channel.
@@Digiphex excellent. Loved your BoC inspired packs for the circuit!
You're like the Mr. Rogers of the Synth/ Drum Machine world and Im here for it. Subbed.

Ive seen you can just copy the patterns from samples to midi

And now it has a 4 synths . . .
