Thank you for taking the time to do this review. My son has gotten his money's worth (no pun intended) out of a kids detector. This looks like a good step up for him! Thanks again.
I paid $58 dollars + free shipping for this detector on Ebay. I owned many high end detectors since 1998 and i think this is a amazing deal for so little money.
Easy for the Chinese to charge so little...the technology was stolen from us and built with slave labor, destroying our country while rewarding them for stealing. All to save you a couple dollars...and put us all out of work! Enjoy!
I got this after last Christmas's buying season. Remaining stock was heavily discounted in all stores. If you don't need it for a gift and are willing to take a gamble with availability, many have reported getting this detector for half of the Black Friday price or less. Now that's a real bargain.
That's crazy! Thanks for the heads up. Yeah this is just for ourselves, not a gift. Just need something to help us find lost screws dropped during DIY projects and brass casings after hunting rodents on the property. Need something that can do wider scans because we already have the Garrett Pro Pointer.
Thanks for posting this great review! Got the last one at Home depot thanks to a girl that decided not to buy it at the black Friday sale, it sold out within 40 minutes of store opening,..... new to this hobby so it's a great help seeing a video on it! hope it holds up.
It is all about getting to know the machine and how it works, Same as a set of golf clubs you need to play around with them to get to know what they can do. Once you know with practice what it can do it becomes second nature, I have a M/D for £50.00 brand new and i have 2 buttons, one turns it on and is also the sensitivity knob the second is the All Metals and the discrimination knob. And it does what it says in the instructions to a T. Yes mine might not perform for depth like that one but mine will find a 2 pence piece up to a depth of 16cm. It was bought from maplins yeah probably built in china and they do some good stuff, And mine is a entry level machine, And it has a pinpointer button too which comes in handy.
Thank you so much for the video, it's been very helpful. My sweet husband heard me mumble to myself that I had always wanted one, and he bought one to surprise me. I found something day 1 just playing with it. We did try a multitude of items to see how they show up, and it looks like gold can show up as anything. We're taking it out on it's maiden voyage to the beach this weekend :)
Yes, gold unfortunately shows up in the junk range on ALL DETECTORS. It doesn't matter how expensive they are. That's why a lot of people will dig any signal that is above the IRON range....just so they don't miss out on a shot at gold.
@@AndTheCorrectAnswerIs - how do you know how deep to dig for the item? Or you just dig between 1-10in and hope to find the item? Thanks in advance for your time.

I have lot of old detectors, some broken, some working but not well so I have not hunted for the last 3 years. My wife noting this bought me this model at Home Depot as a Xmas present. I first thought it was a kids unit and turned up my nose at it. But after reading your review I took another look at it and your review convinced me to try it out. WOW! this thing is starting to renew my faith in hunting. Thanks!

This detector works about the same as any other entry level detector. I'd suggest reading the instructions first, and maybe watching some videos of how to use some other entry level metal detectors.
Maybe the machine isn't working....normally you pot the batteries and switch on the detector ......it should work instantly and then other adjusts but this will no affect the functions to much.

That Air Test looked like it goes into the "Optimistically" drawer. That said, it looks like a neat machine and if I were choosing an Entry Level detector, I'd have it in my Top 3.

The beach is a unique environment. Saltwater beaches usually have very high mineralization in the soil and sand. Higher end detectors and detectors especially made for the beach usually have a "beach" setting, or some other method to adjust the detector for beach conditions. A waterproof detector is another consideration for the beach. Many items like rings, coins and jewelry are actually dropped in the water while swimming. I don't live near the ocean, so I would suggest figuring out your budget, and then going to one of the metal detecting forums and posting a question asking for advice on a good beach detector (new or used) for your price range.
Isaac Martinez Silver should be easy to detect for ALL detectors...gold not as much. If you want a really good detector for detecting gold, you'll be paying at least $300-400 and up to over $1000. Gold, unfortunately shows up in the same range as junk like foil, pull tabs, etc. Detectors aimed specifically at gold detecting operate at a higher coil frequency range usually 14-17kHz and give up some depth capability in exchange for extra ability to detect smaller pieces of gold.
I've been in for a pretty good detector to start with I've been checking them all out on the internet I'm going on UA-cam and watching videos you did the video for this metal detector real real good I also convinced me to get one because it is easier to hunt when you get the numbers instead of little horses it does make it a lot easier you should do another video of whale hunting with the machine and I did have a pretty good Giant 9772 machine thanks
YES it is! I own one that I rent out, along with other detectors. But I give it to guys and gals who are not sure if they're into the hobby or not, so I tell them to try this one, as the numbers will help them to learn what they are digging up. Almost everyone who's rented this from me, ends up buying a detector. I usually sell them a Garrett Ace 250!! But the Gold digger is an awesome little entry level machine!!
Gold is very difficult to detect even with many top of the line detectors. Gold is more easily detected using higher frequencies, but detecting depth is greater with lower frequencies. Many very expensive detectors use 2-3 frequencies simultaneously so they can still detect gold while also detecting other metals at greater depth. If you are specifically looking for gold, there are specially built detectors for that....but they're not good at much else. Don't think you're going to reliably find gold with any budget detector.
You made a lot of effort to show this detector's capabilities and while the GC-1032 is a great little machine for the price, the GC-10(23) is much faster in discriminate mode on both two-tone and single tone settings and has the recovery speeds/response times of some very expensive detectors. Some $800 machines have a hard time keeping up to the speeds of the GC-1023 in terms of recovery speeds/response times. It sounds much like a DeepTech Vista Gold in two-tone. No, it's not a depth king but it doesn't do any worse than your GC-1032 here in terms of depth. The GC/MD/TC-1023 has been reviewed and tested by at least one or two other youtube video makers. Only the Bounty Hunter VLF/Gold Digger comes close in terms of rec. speed/resp. times in the sub-$130 price range. Seems like the Chinese have still not learned how to get the lag time out of their digital-display i.d. detectors as of yet. BH had this same lag problem in their time ranger as well as the discovery series and also, the legacy model. They pretty much eliminated this lag time when they revamped the time ranger as well as some of the other models they added and/or improved.

Gold is difficult to detect for most general metal detectors under $400-500. Most companies make specific detectors for gold using a high frequency coil. Unfortunately, the high frequency detectors don't do well detecting other metals very deep....that's the trade off. Some high end detectors in the $500 and up range use 2 or even 3 different frequencies in the coil to broaden the detection range. You could always look for a used Garrett AT Gold or a used Whites DFX but they will still be in the $400 range.
no disrespect intended to you or goden century who make this machine ,but the best machines they made were designed 10 years ago . gc-1023,1022,and 1016models all analogue machines with lightning recovery and capable of pulling coins from 8" deep . they are all still available and much better than this machine .
That's some great info, but I think I will add to it for people unfamiliar with metal detectors. Many analog machines are still available today in lower priced units. They may detect deeper because they may not have discrimination. Discrimination (the ability to reject certain metals like iron or foil) requires electronic filter circuits. The more electronic filters built in, the better the machine is at identifying and rejecting unwanted metals. The disadvantage is added cost and loss of depth. The most depth with any machine will always be obtained in ALL-METAL mode, but you'll get hits on every nail, bottle top, pull tab, etc. Units with digital target ID, like in this video, again have circuitry not included in lower priced detectors. If you are a relic hunter looking for anything made of metal like horseshoes, nails, old padlocks, etc. then even one of the cheaper detectors mentioned in the above comment might be great for you. If you want target ID, VDI numbers, and different tones, then this detector might be the right choice.
