Not quite, there was a Technic compatible product called the Aquabrixel which was a peristaltic pump, and they had an excavator as a product demonstrator
Idea: Can you make a truck that comes with this set, in which the excavator puts the sand or whatever it wants to, and then the truck can go wherever it wants and drop the sand? Like a dump truck which has a bed that bends down to drop the sand, and has a flap on the end to stop the sand from falling out? Edit one: This sorta blew up?? More chance that @BrickTechnology sees this.....
the fact that you only had to modify 1 piece and make another to get a working fluid pump is impressive and makes me wonder why Lego doesn't have something like this for an engineer line
Tbh, it seems like the center motor was struggling to stay balanced on rotation, but that 3d print to gap close and fit was clean. Also really cool use of the hydraulics. I would love to see a build that demos the use of the servos as well. 10 out of 10 would watch again
Nice video. I always struggled figuring out how to present actual sand digging, but the way you did it by laying a full layer underneath the excavator makes sense. It's so simple

The speedrun of the design of the part was such an amazing flex. It made me so happy, the efficiency and skill and elegance with which you made a new part appear in the world, it was SO cool.
Peristaltic pumps are commonly used for small precise pumping, like in medical devices. As a bonus, the liquid doesn't touch anything other than tube, so it's easier to sanitize.
Hey just a recommendation from someone who works on this type of hydraulics everyday. The rod side of a cylinder has less volume than the piston side because when the cylinder is all the way open obviously the rod isnt inside of the cylinder so you may want to add a water tank with a breather to avoid excess pressure build up when all of the cylinders are sucked in or to avoid the pumps running dry when the cylinders are all the way out. Otherwise great job love to see it.
as an actual heavy equipment operator i have to say I'm super impressed! if you could fit a 4th pump in their i bet you could add a thumb and pick stuff up, make it much more practical
It's just a glorified spoon. I love it. And seriously, using water makes perfect sense. air can be compressed, but water cannot. Good call, and good execution.
Excellent, I've been wanting to make a custom pneumatic excavator for a while but air power just doesn't cut it for speed, power and accuracy. Surprised by the amount of power those peristatic pumps can produce, it's a game changer. Thanks for the inspiration.
Whoa these pumps are honestly game-changing and lego should sell pumps like this. I loooove pneumatics, but they are near impossible to electrify. I've always wanted to make pneumatic robots but it's just not really doable with normal compressors and valves.
I hope Lego makes a bigger, more functional excavator like this with a bucket like yours. The excavator was always one of my favorite pieces of heavy equipment.
