The reason the first bulldozer built drove so poorly was because there wasn't any ground pressure between the 2 wheels, so basically it wasn't much different from just being a wheeled vehicle.

Arguably a wheeled vehicle would have been better, because it would at least have ground clearance. Improving the tread grip was a blind alley, I think.
Bucket Wheet would have been much more effective if you put 8 buckets instead of 4 and a transport band to move the sand to the other side (as MouldKing 17006 or Lego 42055 do)

I think you might be interested in :) In Poland in Upper Silesia there were a huge railways that was delivering sand to coal mines (just for backfill the empty surfaces after taking out the coal). I saw that you had a great fun with bucket-wheel solution and maybe you will enjoy my proposition :) On those railways you could found very similiar solutions and so on :) For example - special carriages with rolls on the sides of those carriages were designed for quick-unloading system better known as Van der Zypen patent. In best times of those railways (something around 1960-1980 i guess) there was over 110 special unloanding bridges that use those carriages. Very quick, very simple, but so satisfying. In google you could find it with tags sandbahn (in german, cause it was originally german system) or with "kolej piaskowa" in polish language, but refers the same.
It would be interesting to see the results if you'd built the actual LEGO bucket wheel excavator from the kit that was released as a Technic set a few years ago. It incorporated eight buckets on the wheel, and also included a two tier conveyor system to transfer the material to the rear of the machine.
The scraper is what the bulldozer would've been if it had been built better. More bottom clearance and bigger bite would help with the getting stuck problem.
The reason the dozer wasn't working is because it kept getting high centered. U needed more ground clearance in the center, bigger wheels for the tracks would of done the trick. When u were measuring the sand it moved, u forgot to add the sand that was up against the retaining wall.
The dozer would have been "better" with chassis higher so the tank treads could get more traction... also the gears were a bit too high which also lead to the tracks "overspinning" and in turn burying itself. The lower gears would have allowed it to move more steadily in the sand.
When using tracks, make sure they are longer than the machine. Otherwise you are better off using wheels because then the weight isnt in the middle where it gets stuck.

Bulldozer tracks are geared so fast you have no traction or power, Bulldozer bucket is geared so slow you have to FFW the footage. Swap those aspects and it'll be SWEET!
In the case of the bucket, it was necessary to add a conveyor and an incline for the buckets. Then the result would be a technically correct design.

For sand plants they use 2 counter rotating Archimedes screws on a incline to separate sand from slurry
