    Watched absolutely 100s of how to build garden bench on UA-cam unfortunately most of them was not useful and the rest unclear or complicated , but the way you have explained it’s amazing, very easy , clear and smart.
    Thank you 🙏

    I built this today, turned out great. I used my table saw and a taper jig to cut the tapers, no sanding no planing.
    Thanks for posting this!

    I just finished making this bench. It took me about 5 hours, but that was because I kept coming back to the video to make sure I was doing it right. I'll make a couple more, and then make a few chairs by shortening the 48" boards to 26" or so. I did all the straight cuts with a chop saw, and the backrest and arm cuts with a jig saw. A band saw would make it easier, but really, you could do this project just fine with hand saws and sandpaper. This is the first DIY video I've ever seen that explained everything so well that I never had one minute of confusion. I wrote down the measurements, and all the steps as I did them, so now I have a written building plan in case I forget how to do something. Thank you for this video. I love the bench, even if it takes two men and boy to lift it. :)

    Just finished my Garden Bed run for the year and was looking for new projects ....... NAILED IT !! Thanks so much for this video ! I always trust a glue and screw man !! Just sayin'. I retired 10 years ago and went in the hospital for a life saving operation .... then ANOTHER !!! I'm to much of an old War Horse to give up. I build things and sell them CHEAP. I like the idea of giving back for all the things people have done for me over the years .... makes an old man feel useful again !! Take care !! Thanks again.

    I just finished building this bench yesterday and found it very easy to build when I watched the video and took down all the measurements. The result is a very nice, very sturdy bench. Nearly anyone could build this with a minimum of power tools. The buy-list and cut-list are quite accurate. Hardly any waste or scrap wood left over. Cost me $40.18 for the pine lumber I bought at Home Depot. If you're not an expert woodworker, and you don't have a lot of money, don't be afraid to tackle this project.

    Well Sir , today April 28 2019, I made a bench using your plan and it came out very good. All the measurements were accurate, Thank you. Now on the back rest I would extend about three inches on both sides on the top two pieces. I just completed mine and my daughter is asking me to make her one . Wow, I thank you for your time and your encouragements in making me so useful. Edward. God Bless.

    Thanks for your video. I used the same design except changed the Arm rest , seat and back boards to 5/4 deck boards. I also increased the width from 48 in to 54 inches (the back rest 51In) and finally made the top back board the same length as the seat boards so it extends a bit and then rounded it off. Looks great and was easy to build. Thanks again.

    Made one of these today, thank you so much for a detailed and easy to construct solid bench. One thing I found was that the cross braces for the legs should have been 23 1/2" an not 23" so I have a bit of an overlap. May be due to the slightly different timber sizes in the UK....but I can live with that..

    Built one last weekend, I did a little bit of modification, my wife and I are both over 6ft so I made it higher. I compared to a camping chair for desired height. We are sitting at 20in so I made the legs 28in high. I might do even higher next bench as we like a higher arm rest too but easy enough to put a couple 2x4's under the arm rest to raise it. I also made it 12 in wider (60in vs 48in) by using 2x6x10's for seat/back instead of 2x6x8 (and one 2x4x10) and added a short 2x4 to the base middle to prevent sag. turned out wonderful, very nice plan. I will probably build a couple more. I might see if I can find a way to angle the seat slightly, I find a flat bench a little more uncomfortable vs one that has a slight decline towards the back.

    I had some scrap wood and your video was the first one I found that looked easy enough to build. The bench turned out great! The one change I would make is to extend the length of the legs to maybe 25" to raise the arms up a bit. Again, this was super simple and a heavy duty bench to add to my yard! Thank you!

    Nice bench I like the fact that they are heavy they will stay put and wear better being that they are beefy. I made two benches some what like this years ago. I did notice the feet started to rot after 5 years due to the end grain was touching the ground. My fix for that was 5/8 decking boards cut in style like a coaster attached it to the feet as sacrificial boards that could be replaced. I cut each leg about a inch then added the coaster board to the end. Great project

      That's a great idea. Most treated 2x4s you buy are not actually rated for direct soil contact so that would be a good way around it. Thanks for watching!

    Just built this bench and wow. So awesome to build something and when you’re done you sit down on it. Lol. I’m thinking those back braces could be notched out so they would sit back further and then allow the back boards and seat to align better but this was easy and straightforward. Love it!! I didn’t have a router and my jigsaw stopped working. Used and angle grinder to round the arm rests and then sanded them a lot with an orbiter sander. It’s not perfect but honestly gives it a more rustic touch so it’s all good. Thanks for the video!!

    Thank you for this - I have made so many of these - sold some gave some away. I do Shou Sugi ban to finish them. Then stain or dye to order. The main part for me is the prep- cutting sanding rounding off edges then burning. If outside I burn to char then strip with a restorer. Then stain or dye, seal with Halycon total boat clear. Then assemble

    You really make good videos illustrating how the job is done with a nicely done material list. These benches will be great for a rustic setting I'm putting together for outside. We are about the same age and we use the same methods of measuring and cutting. Again Thanks for the great video illustration.

    Thanks Soat Mon. Nearly finished my bench. I've used the 2 x 4 wood for arms, seating slats, back slats instead of 2 x 6 and I've never done any woodworking before. Have you made any round tables? Would be great to see.

    You can do the (2) arm rests at the same time (on top of each other) then just flip one over....

    • @SoatMon
      @SoatMon  8 років тому +1

      That's a good idea. Thanks for watching!

  • @401Impala

    For the arm rests, you can measure both pieces the same then flip one over to use for the left and right. Also, after you lay one out, cut it, then trace that design on the uncut piece for the arm rest. No need to measure out both pieces. Work smarter, not harder. :)

      I have built 3 of these and no middle bracing is required...unless the 'sitter is like 400+# ! As designed, it is very sturdy. Have fun!!

    You should have used Kreg Jig Pocket Hole Joinery to join all of your framing together ! Much Stronger than just gluing and screwing with normal wood screws !!

    I just made one and it was pretty easy with your drawings and the video. I was wondering if 1X6 would work instead of the 2X6?

    • @SoatMon
      @SoatMon  4 роки тому +1

      It probably would but you might have to reinforce the seat depending on how bendy the 1x6s are. Thanks for letting me know you built one.

    With wood prices what they are now this would cost me about 70 bucks to make. Prices are crazy right now. I made 6 foot bench that used to cost 20 bucks with all materials it cost me about 110. (nails and glue...) cant wait for the market to correct
