I watched this movie as a young boy. The impressions it left are vivid even to this day. Epic is the word that comes to mind. Epic adventure movie. Epic Epic Epic. this trailer makes me want to see it again.
It's impossible for those who never saw it in it's original format at the cinema with a curved screen to comprehend how amazing it was.
So much of the vastness is lost when it's shown flat, it was filmed and directed and acted specifically for a 3 projection cinerama production and looks fantastic that way
Damn u just made me super jealous lol
@@fault.
We have fentanyl.
I too saw this movie at the Denver Cooper Theater in the 3 panel Cinerama. I managed to see the movie twice in that wonderful theater. Even the memories of that experience 53 years later are just a fresh as yesterday. It is so sad that we lost all of the Cinerama theaters and are left with these little digital theaters all boxed together. Much of the experience was the magnificent and opulent theaters of that time. The curved screen surrounded you with a width of 105 feet and a height of 36 feet while the 8 channel soundtrack immersed you into the film. It truly was magical and put todays IMAX to shame. Happy I got to experience them.
Our town restored our wonderful old theatre a few years back. I went there as a kid, over 48 years ago. In the lobby there used to be pictures of some of the movie stars, large, framed pictures. Debbie was one of them who hung there. I loved seeing her movies at that glorious theatre with its roof a night sky filled with stars. Magical moments.
It would be nice if they showed Cinerama movies like this on Imax screens!
Never even knew it was a thing and I’ve worked on films for the last 20 years and and into the history , must have only been in America ?
they toured the world with Cinerama.
I'm fairly young and I can assure you my generation would love to see Cinerama.
Seeing avengers on a huge screen like that? YES
This is one of my all-time favorite movies without question. I would almost go to a movie theater to see it on big screen
My dad took me to the theater to see this and it is the first movie I can remember going to see, it was spectacular.
This is a must see for every child. A great movie!!!
A truly great movie that i could watch over and over, and what a cast. Magnificent.
The best western history movie made! There is nothing like it! I’d love to see it on the big screen again! It’s bigger than life!
"With its lusty old-west, square-dancing, fun!"
Square-dancing can be hella lusty if you know how to work-it!
R.I.P. Debbie Reynolds
This picture has a great heart and soul. It believes in itself and the story it's telling us, and the story is true, if not the whole truth.
VERY GOOD MOVIE! 😃One of my all-time personal favourites👍🏿
They all look like they are in a hurry, even the Bison.
Simply the most amazing film experience ever. What a film
I remember seeing it in 3 panel Cinerama as a boy and I have never forgotten what a spectical it was both visually and sound
just jaw dropping and a million times better than IMAX
If I could make a modern version of this, the curved screen would be longer than the original, and each section where one camera is shot would be bigger than the largest IMAX screen. It would be a 16K+ LED screen with Dolby Vision. There would also be comforting reclining seats with the DTS:X sound system, plus dine-in.
Terrific theme song. Rousing and pleasing. Picture was top entertainment.
I k ow i have this movie on vhs.I was born that yr.crazy how fast time has flown.I will have to watch it again one day.🖒🖒
Sadly, Hollywood would not make this film today.
What a memorable movie
First movie I remember seeing in a theater.
Cutting from amazing Cinerama location rapids to obviously Culver City backlot with rear projection is hilarious.
How bout that cast!
Exit Music (Finale Ultimo)
The promised land - the promised land - the promised land!
The promised land, the land of plenty rich with gold
Here came dreamers with Bible, fist and gun
Bound for land, across the plains their wagons rolled
Hell bent for leather - that's how the West was won
Side by side they tamed the savage prairie land (note: the songbook says "stride by stride")
Nothing stopped them - no wind nor rain nor sun
Side by side these pioneers from ev'ry land
All pulled together - that's how the West was won
And they sang of the day when they would rest their boots
In a land where the still waters flow
Where the dreams of a man and wife could put down roots
And their love and the seeds of love would grow
And grow and grow!
Dream by dream they built a nation on this land
Forged in freedom for ev'ry mother's son
Here it is, the beautiful the promised land
We won't forget them and how the West was won!

Luckily, although very young, I got to see this just-released movie when it was shown on the wide screen and surround sound in all its glory. I especially loved the beautiful scenery and soundtrack and of course all the stars. The edited version is not the same seen on a TV screen.
At the start you can see the three cinerama panels.
1962: MGM thought these big 'roadshow' movies would save the studio in the 60's. They did, barely. Shot in 105-millimeter Cinerama (three 35mm cameras side-by-side with special lenses). Only a handful of cities had Cinerama theatres; most saw it in shrunken 70mm, and TV got a gawdawful 35mm pan-and-scan. If you're wondering, Warners acquired the movie when they bought out Ted Turner, who had bought much of MGM's library during its first round of death throes in the mid-80's. The once-mightiest of studios is now just a production company, forced to partner with others just to make a movie. Credit to Warners as well for it's recent restoration of the movie.
RJ McAllister I work in film and I thought shooting 3D was a pain in the ass but 3 cameras all running film would take a lot of work and a lot of reshoots , the cinematographers back then were true craftsman , I always enjoy working with the old boys but there isn’t many left sadly
I’m thankful I got to see this as a kid at the drive-in movies many years ago and even greater I got to see it at Cinerama in Seattle and again at Cinerama Dome in Los Angeles. I wish there was a Cinerama somewhere in the United States that could still do the three projector system screenings so that people can experience that for once in their lifetime. I’m surprised there isn’t one in Hollywood or at the Smithsonian in Washington DC.
How does that compare with stepping outdoors?
I would like to watch this movie. I am very passionate about the western classic american. But I don't know the site or the link which allows me to watch this film which interests me a lot. Can someone help me, please. Thank you so much

I saw this movie in Cinerama . nothing, and mean nothing , in this day and age matches it. a real epic.
Saw this and " MMMMW" in Cinerama. You can still see the lines in this video.
@@leroyproud294 I saw it when it was brand new without any lines. mmmmw , was not real Cinerama . dvd and blue ray have been cleaned of the lines. in this day and age with our technology , you would think they could copy it.
@@weitzfc1 I know. We watched MMMW on UA-cam movies recently. It looked like they cleaned it up. I was looking as close as possible for the old lines from the Cinerama effect.
@@leroyproud294 mmmmw was in a single screen , ultra Panavision 70mm . it was not in Cinerama.
@@weitzfc1 you are correct that it was in 70mm Panavision. However, it was also filmed using Cinerama and was originally shown at all Cinerama theaters when first released.
2.59:1 , the aspect-ratio that combatted the rise of TV and brought back audience to the theatres. They did it by projecting 3 35mm on the screen together.
great movie made in much simpler times
Simpler times for whom?
@Verhofstadt's Teeth The past is more dystopian than the present. At one time being an Abolitionist or Suffragist was considered being "woke".
Yeah, simple for white folk

I saw this with my first girl friend, Jean Adair.
Classic Western Movie from 1963 by MGM.

This was a Truly Great & Magnificent Movie of the Epic Westward trek and expansion of Our Nations History. That was quite ingeniously put in a Three & a half hour Movie, with a Great Cast of phenomenal Actors & Actresses, who really pulled it Off too Tell Our Countries incredible Story so Well. Thank You again for Sharing it so Well. 🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸❤️🤍💙👍👍🤔🤔👏👏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏
0:45 I don't think Debbie Reynolds was gay.
And only got gayer... searching for a gayer life. Apparently it is not an on/off light switch, more of a rheostat.
@@BrianMorisky Ha ha ha :)
Cheesy, vulgar triumphalism--one of my guilty pleasures!
Damn, everybody was in that movie.
Where can I watch this?
One of MGM's last major productions. Too bad the studio went downhill when Kerkorian took over.
Wow 🎥 🍿 🇺🇸
I see a lot of shots in this movie where the horizon is in the MIDDLE of the frame. WTF is that?
I have seen this movie 3 times now it my favourite Weston of all time 💯
This 2.35:1 trailer fails to show the incredible full width of true Cinerama which was something like 3:1.

What sort of fucking shit studio would ever allow this trailer to be uploaded in 240p quality?!?!?!? Trailers are just as important parts of your history as the films they promote. Why you would ever let an ad for your movie be uploaded to the official Warner channel is....bizarre. If all Warners had at hand was a tape copy that copy would be higher than 480p standard or youtube. What the actual fuck.
The quality is terrible.
The current bluray removes much of the two vertical lines of the past. Quite a good restoration, I think.
How west became dual.and lost 2023
dual?
You have centnnel and into the west.
Great film. A classic. A better title be though: HOW THE WHITE FOLKS MOVED IN hahaha.

A more accurate title for this movie would have been "How Ethnic Cleansing Made Expansion Into the Western Territories Possible For White Settlers"
How long until the whinging and crying stops? 300 years? 500? 1000?
@@sweptinblack - probably until people learn to spell
