  • Hello everyone and welcome to my bee yard. Another 'FIRST' in the bee yard for me and it had me running all over. I saw a swarm in the air and I was able to track it to a tree. So I git the opportunity to do a review on a new product that I have. Come along and let's see how this thing does on swarms.
    Everything Bee Vac Website:

    Thanks for sharing! I just used my Everything Bee Vacuum a couple of days ago for the first time. A friend called and had a swarm on her electric meter box. If it had been anyone else, I wouldn't have bothered but she was worried about her grandkids who were coming to visit. This swarm was probably no bigger than a softball but the vac did what I needed it to do. I like the fact that I could leave the fan on low overnight and deal with the bees the next morning.

    Hey Mike!!!!! I’ve been searching UA-cam for the last few weeks for October swarms, I have had the identical thing happen to me a few weeks ago !!!!!! I looked at all my hives , I had two absconds this year, it was not because of mites , I had a problem with jumping spiders and praying mantis devouring my bees in my nuc yard , so while I was cleaning up boxes and frames and all my honey mess from the last pull I noticed that two frames that had brood , not much , about enough to do two mite tests, I figured I would let them die off because if they had disease i didn’t want to add them to a healthy hive , low and behold a new queen had hatched the beginning of October and between the small amount of new nurse bees in the frames , and the new queen mated ! I have a few frames of brood getting worked and this new queen is fabulous!!! She is fat tailed and laying eggs like crazy and the bees are working like mad! They seem to be packing nectar , syrup , pollen in a beautiful pattern and I think this nuc is well on its way to be a healthy over wintered nuc ! It blew my mind when I figured what was going on! I’ve watched the new appointed guards run off other bees and other insects like Yellowjackets!!! Im elated they are doing so well , I lost two colonies this year and I just got a free one back 🎉🎉🎉😂😂

    That machine is really super. I have one I have used for 4 years and still going strong. The idea of cutting a hole in a piece of plywood and using it as a bottom board for the bees to then climb up into the brood box is priceless. I never really minded shaking the bees out of the bucket, but what I did mind was dumping all the trash from a cutout into the box with the bees. I have put an inner cover on the box and then dumped them on to that in an effort to not get trash and dirt in the hive. But using this new method eliminates all of that. I always learn something new from you. Great job as always. Take care and God Bless.

    Love the newest version with the screened bottom for ventilation. It is the Cadillac of bee vacs for sure. The remote is a must if you're carrying it on your back. I had about 12 pounds in it from my last cutout. I just pour them out on the top of the frames and then set it where they can just walk in the front like you did. Thanks Mike!!

    Caught a swarm in daughter's backyard last Thursday (10/26). Latest I've caught one also. Going to nurse it along and see if it makes it. No beehives around that I know of--they live in the country-- so it is likely feral. Live in west central Texas. It was in 70s when I caught it, in the 30s today (10/30).

    Mike. Alternatively to leaving the queen caged, could you use a queen excluder either under the brood chamber or on the entrance in order to allow the queen to get busy asap in the new box?

    • @MikeBarryBees
      @MikeBarryBees  9 місяців тому +1

      I thought about that Brad. That’s what I was saying about needing a NUC. I knew I needed a NUC for the tiny cluster, but I also knew I would’ve had to use a full size excluder under the five frame. But I was prepared to make it work for a few days. So that was the plan if I sucked her up, but then I spotted her and figured best to catch her. But then the whole flight thing happened 😁. I did move them to a new location based on my buddy’s advice so that they would still scout out their original location. That worked and she’s laying in eggs.

    Great video Mike, I've watched all of Randy's 628 Dirt Rooster videos and saw how this everything bee vac evolved over the years. If you're doing swarm removals or cut outs from what I've seen, you can't go wrong with this system! If it's a huge cut out, you might need two buckets like one Jeff did recently. Thanks for the video!

    I got an everything bee vac this year and I used it for three cutouts and I found it is best to not dump the bees in the hive because you dump all the debris and dead bees into the hive. Instead I prop a board in front of the hive and dump the bees on it and let them walk in and I have had a quiet a few dead bees in the bottom. Hope to see you at the North American Honey Bee Expo in January.

    • @MikeBarryBees
      @MikeBarryBees  9 місяців тому

      Yea, I’m the same way when I do the removals and the other vacuums allow them to just leave the debris and the dead on the vacuum bottom board. It with this vacuum, I’m feeling like the convenience out weights that to an extent. But I will find out if we’re able to do this removal this weekend. I’ll get a better measure of what I have. Hey Mike I wanted your opinion on this, I had two strong hives going into winter and thought they would be alive and fine in spring. Well they died now when I took them apart they each had two deep supers of honey. How ever they had one empty super between them and the honey, I think they started to move up but didn’t make it in the extreme cold snap we had 😂. What do you think? I appreciate your opinion. Thanks for another great video. Hope our weather improves soon and our winters get back to normal, don’t mind the cold but it’s the deep freeze that hurt everyone and everything.🐝🐝🐝🐝🐝🐝🐝🐝🐝🐝❤🐝🐝🐝

    • @MikeBarryBees
      @MikeBarryBees  4 місяці тому

      I’d have to agree with you on the empty super between them. That’s if they died from starvation. If they died of a virus or absconded, then of course it didn’t matter. But one thing I have learned is that if honey or food is always above them, they have a better chance at not starving than if it’s only on the sides. So if there was only empty space above and stayed freezing, then they easily could starve. My opinion of course and very humbled that you value my opinion. Thanks so much for your continued support!!

    Hey Mike, what would stop you from plucking drones from a good hive and shacking up the drones and queen instead of a mating flight?

    • @MikeBarryBees
      @MikeBarryBees  9 місяців тому

      Queens won’t mate with drones in the hive. They will only mate in flight, so she has to do a mating flight. Wish we could do that because I could catch drones easy enough, but just not how it works. Flying out on mating flights is what prevents in-breeding. Queens actually out-fly their own drones by up to a mile in some cases. Drones form an apiary will go about a half mile away while queens from that very yard will go a mile or more. This prevents inbreeding and gives better queens.
