What John says at 10:40 is SO HUGE in life. I am 46 almost 47, and I'm just realizing this about myself, and it has changed my life so profoundly in all areas. John is also so damn humble, it's no doubt Meregali is extremely talented, but John HAS to know Meregali's performance at ADCC was mostly a testament to his incredible teaching ability.
Agreed. Made me realize I was better than I was giving myself credit for. I think my biggest mistake was letting my ex Prof define my value. When other people told me that to grow I should pursue another place to train. My blind loyalty would not allow it. In the end my love of training died because I never got the encouragement or recognition from my ex Prof.
I love John's nod to Giancarlo Bodoni, it is truly is amazing to hear about his progression. From being submitted by a blue belt at a local tournament recently, to tapping multiple world champions, and now submitting Lucas Barbosa. Absolutely amazing!
I love John so much. And the event was pretty darn great. Now, if only Flo would invest a couple hundred bucks of that money we gave them to watch it into a couple of clip microphones, so that their interviews don't sound like garbage - that would be a purchase for the ages!
@@thos1618 I wouldn't argue - things are far better now quality-wise then they were compared to whenever you are referring to. That's all that was available at the time, so it is to be expected. Still with all the emprovements in technology - why should people settle for poor quality, when it is EASILY avoidable? It is quite mind-boggling that, for all their improvements, Flo cannot mister the money - or even worse - doesn't think it important - to set their interviewers up with some gear that will make their worka bit more worthwhile. Like, a clip mic set from BestBuy is ~200 bucks. Extra mic would be $35-$65. For comparison, a one-year subscription on Flo costs ~$170, if I am not mistaken. So what is the reason they can't procure interviewing equipment, so that their content - which is a huge part of their promotional material and a big engagement tool - doesn't sound like it was produced by a fresh-year highschooler?

Champions come and go but I think Danaher will be one of the biggest legends of BJJ when all this is said and done. On top of all the personal accolades he's earned, getting more recognition to the sport would be an amazing achievement. I just think (IMO) that his motives are almost entirely monetary. Regardless of his intentions, nobody is ever going to ever forget Gordon "The King/GOAT" Ryan, I just think in the long run, when the dust has settled, people will truly appreciate and respect the depth of Danaher's contribution to the sport.
