- Full throttle Autobahn acceleration test with the all new 2015 / 2016 Volvo XC90 as the range-topping D5 Diesel delivering 225 hp and 470 Nm of torque (weight: 2.082 kg). My thanks go to Mattusch Automobile in Kaiserstlautern (www.autohaus-mattusch.de) who ordered a large variety of new XC90 and made this test drive possible. With this new XC90 Volvo really is back in high-class premium market and as previously said isn't only fighting the new X5 and Q7 with this but also going on pair with a Range Rover Vogue or a Porsche Cayenne on interior design and quality. Unfortunately this car only had 1.800 km on the clock and it was 35 degrees outside when we did the test. Therefore I believe that there are still some seconds in if you would do it under our "usual" conditions. Nevertheless, you can instantly feel that the new D5 mated with the 8-speed transmission is a great power-train. Faster than a X5 25d (car magazines tested that) , more fuel efficient and very very quiet also at higher Autobahn speeds. Schade das Volvo auf Prestige verzichtet und nur 4-Zylinder anbietet, ein 6 Zylinder wäre hier deutlich ansprechender....
Es mag sein das diese Motoren für Volvo ein großer Schritt nach vorne sind, dadurch werden ja auch bestimmt eine Menge Kosten eingespart, aber bei einem solch hohen Grundpreis erwarte ich schon eine größere Motorenpalette
Auch ich könnte mir vorstellen einen noch größeren Diesel im XC90 zu fahren, gerade wenn man viel Autobahn fährt und evtl. mit Anhänger unterwegs ist. allerdings ist der Motor nur eine Komponente von vielen. Das auch durch den 4-Zylinder geringe Gesamtgewicht wirkt sich außerordentlich positiv auf das Fahrverhalten aus und der Motor ist dem vorherigen 5Zylinder in Sachen Laufruhe und Verbrauch überlegen, dazu kommen noch geringere Wartungskosten die für viele auch in dieser Kategorie ein Argument sind. Auch der GLE 350d mit 6Zylinder war nicht viel schneller und von den Zylindern hört man heute eh wenig....Ich finde Volvo ist hier auf einem guten Weg!

It's stupid not to put 6 cylinders in a car like this. You'll be taxed because of the horse, but the performance is like a turtle. Competitors X5 Q7 Touareg 6 cylinder and better .

I don't think so. This XC90 is first step in premium segment where Mersedes,Audi, BMW stand a lot of time and they have more knowledge how to made good car. Volvo in this segment is new bie they need time to grow up.

Miran Zymberaj the Audi is a lot faster with all it’s engines i.e d5 and 272 3.0 tdi d5: around 7 even with 218 the Q7 is faster and this car’s reliability isn’t that good. I’m a big fan of Volvos but the XC90 deserves a V6

Luis Mateo Bolado I have tested the DS5 a few years ago, with the 165 hp Diesel. Don't know if I will be able to test the facelifted one as I don't have any connection to Citroen yet.

The engine does its best for performance how is the consumption
TheFunkyair We didn't have the possibility yet to test it on a longer trip, but at our video shoot we had never more than 10 liters, which ist pretty astonishing if you consider the driving style and the car sitting in idle for some time. I would expect this consuming about 1 liter less than the D5 in the predecessor, meaning around 7 liters of D on normal trips.

DerNamenlose Faust Ausgesprochen gut! Ist wirklich ein riesen Schritt nach Vorne für Volvo. Der Innenraum und auch die Technik kann mit der restlichen Premium-Konkurrenz mithalten bzw. ist sogar eigenständiger. Der bisher bemängelte Komfort ist mir nicht wirklich negativ aufgefallen, klar eine Mercedes GLE mit Luftfederung macht das sicherlich noch besser, aber der Volvo ist keineswegs unkomfortabel, dabei aber extrem agil im Handling. Auch die "hackelige" Bedienung scheint sich mit dem neuesten Software Update (aus letzter Woche) deutlich verbessert zu haben, alles läuft nun so flüssig wie man es erwartet.
+Automann-TV Ich finde auch das der Innenraum wirklich viel besser geworden ist als bei unserem Alten XC 90.
Auch vom Design gefällt er mir viel besser.
