Hi sonjay, thanks for the comment. If you buy the 5000 or 6000 you don't need Internet to use the device as it comes with a sim card pre-installed for the traffic info, and abviously the GPS signal is free anyway. But whatever sat nav you want to buy if you want to update the maps/speed cameras/device firmware you will need the Internet and a PC/laptop to download and install the updates.
Hey, GOOD QUESTION! I'm not too sure as I've always subscribed to speed cameras. But I think the way it works is if you pay to subscribe you get the warnings of mobile speed cameras + all the other cameras ( locations are updated twice a week on the PC, except for the mobile cameras, there updated over the air with the built in SIM card ) and if you don't subscribe you don't get the mobile camera alerts anymore and your normal cameras won't get updated anymore on the PC ( but your old camera database still remains active, so it may or may not warn you of a speed camera for example- if it's a new camera it won't show on your device, likewise if the camera has been removed the tomtom may warn you of a camera that no longer exists. Sorry for the long answer :-)
So the short answer is yes you pay for them both as one package, if you don't subscribe you no longer get mobile camera alerts and your normal camera database on the device will no longer get updated and will remain outdated until you subscribe.
To be honest....I'm chuffed to bits with it! There has been improvement after improvement even the text and traffic bars have different sizes to select now. In my opinion the only things missing is a button to avoid part of a route and a route list ( a text list of the route )
Yes locations can be saved, they released an update 2/3 days ago which added a few good things. Coordinate search, waypoints, and a few other interesting features. It's really beginning to get the features we all need and want! This is not the same device that was released :-)
Haha I just noticed you're from Cwmbran. I'm just down the road in Abergavenny. Thanks for the video, thinking about getting the Trucker version of this.
nice review,,im planning to buy one,,but do you need an internet connection to use the tomtom? or do you need to pay something for you to have an access to gps,,,thanks
Hi. It is not good enough as I thought, there is not any option about you can view your route as text before you start your journey. It's mean you are totally blind, you don't know which way it is going to take you. It give you more confidence if you know your route before you start your journey.
Thanks for uploading this. I'm thinking about getting one of these as my XL Live has reached the end of it's days, was wondering if after a couple of weeks you might have anything to add to your review? I've been reading reviews for the 6000 on various forums and to be honest they aren't exactly favourable, I travel in France a lot and use the search POI and search destination by coordinates quite a lot but I gather these features are both missing? Thanks again.
Hey, do you mean coordinates? You just type them into the search in the same place where you type the address. If you mean your current location long/lat that's not available on this device.
You can change the voice but only 1 will read ALL the street names. As for voice control it was updated last week :-) now there is a button to "tap" or if you have it activated you can just say "hey tomtom" followed by your command.
Is the device laggy when scrolling through maps or entering addresses? Is this new Go600 a completely new generation of GPS cause I'm curious whether I should upgrade from my GO2050 World; what do you think?
Hi just bought this unit as well and done the first map update after having problems linking to my account?? Done the update and the devise showed that it was all done. Then I get a message saying update not finished?? So I reconnected and it was a small update (No Info) and was to take 1min 47 secs. Well I waited 30 mins and still no movement on the progress bar??? Bit miffed really as my garmin was bomb proof.
Well I had the journey today... Brilliant! Nice clear fast mapping and traffic was amazing! However some of the speed limits displayed are pants... On 4 or 5 roads it said the limit was 30mph when it was actually 60mph
To add a favourite location you can plan a route and then go into recent destinations and save it as a fav and then name it. If that don't work let me know and il get mine out and have a look.
As for the search poi I haven't tried that yet but if you give me an example il give it a try for you... But there is no coordinate support as of yet! But who knows what they will add in the future
Does anyone know if any of the trucking satnavs you can enter a list of postcodes of say 15 drops in 1 city and it'll find you the fastest route round them?
I'm going on a 120 mile journey tomorrow so if there is anything else I can say il post tomorrow... Let me know about a poi search if you would like me to
You said "Obviously" when you referred to zooming, well it isn't obvious to me! I looked you up because I hoped to find out how to add a "Place" in another country which is not at all obvious. Ho Hum, I'll look elsewhere.
I bought a 64gb memory card because it kept telling me my installed memory was insufficient, but the GO 6000 will not accept it even after I formatted the card on another device, any ideas?
Lol, whilst a brick may work ( at your own risk ) I'd prefer to simply pull the top of the sat nav towards you, the magnet will release but don't be afraid to give it a firm pull.
Lmao... You realise this is UA-cam right? I was just doing a video to show people some of the device that other videos at the time did not! ... And a tripod? Pmsl I'm not shooting a Hollywood movie! Anyways if you have a problem firstly tell someone who cares and secondly don't watch the video!

Do you have to pay for regular fixed camera alerts or is it only for the mobile cameras?
Hey, GOOD QUESTION! I'm not too sure as I've always subscribed to speed cameras. finally a go6000 first look - thanks&greetz from Germany
i bought this yesterday and sent it back today, should of done my research, for a top end model, no hands free no local search, will stick to my 1005

Yes I'm from Cwmbran :-) good decision, I don't think you will be disappointed.
Hi, thanks. Yes it does have a favourite section. Also a recent destination folder where you can save the locations and give them a name.
nice review,,im planning to buy one,,but do you need an internet connection to use the tomtom? or do you need to pay something for you to have an access to gps,,,thanks
The sound is definitely there I just checked. Have you checked your equipment? Or use another device? But the sound is 100% there.

Hi, great video. Can I still save favourite's like my current location?
Hey, do you mean coordinates? You just type them into the search in the same place where you type the address. If you mean your current location long/lat that's not available on this device.
Thanks for the video though you did this 2013 think its time for me to update my ageing and slow GO530
Any comments now you have had it for a year?
You can change the voice but only 1 will read ALL the street names. As for voice control it was updated last week :-) now there is a button to "tap" or if you have it activated you can just say "hey tomtom" followed by your command.
Man you could change the sound in old 930T. Do you have to tap to use speak and go or does it have wakeup command?
Is the device laggy when scrolling through maps or entering addresses? Is this new Go600 a completely new generation of GPS cause I'm curious whether I should upgrade from my GO2050 World; what do you think?
Thanks for the demo. Does the unit auto power up when connected to 12v like starting the engine?

Yes it does :-) although it doesn't on mine because my lighter socket is always powered even when the engine is turned off without the ignition on
Mate of mine just bought one of these... Any idea how to enter a postcode please ?
Hi Steve,
How on earth do I get it to do Latitude /. Longtitude, and to add favourites
To add a favourite location you can plan a route and then go into recent destinations and save it as a fav and then name it. If that don't work let me know and il get mine out and have a look.
Good review I am getting mine next week
As for the search poi I haven't tried that yet but if you give me an example il give it a try for you... But there is no coordinate support as of yet! But who knows what they will add in the future
No problem, happy it helped.
Yes tomtom's software to update the device takes the biscuit sometimes ( very temperamental ) but the device in my opinion is brilliant.
HI there how do you adjust the volume I have a start 60
It's much better these days :-)
OK, thanks for getting back to me
Good information. Thanks
Brilliant review
Is there any difference between go 5000 and go 6000 apart from 1 inch screen size obviously?
No, they are exactly the same except the size.
Hey mate, I got the go 500, can't hear the warnings at all, I'm sure it's turned on. Is it happening to you?
Does anyone know if any of the trucking satnavs you can enter a list of postcodes of say 15 drops in 1 city and it'll find you the fastest route round them?
Best place to ask would be on the tomtom forum, go to www.tomtom.com click search, enter forum, and do a question on there.
Hmm, what you all think? New video maybe?
Quite helpful: thanks.
Unfortunately the colour is not changeable as of yet, as for 3d buildings there only shown in certain places.
Hi
How to active live traffic on this device.
I'm going on a 120 mile journey tomorrow so if there is anything else I can say il post tomorrow... Let me know about a poi search if you would like me to
How do you save it as home
You said "Obviously" when you referred to zooming, well it isn't obvious to me! I looked you up because I hoped to find out how to add a "Place" in another country which is not at all obvious. Ho Hum, I'll look elsewhere.
Sorry I only just realised I missed out the mount and traffic
If there's any specific thing you want to check let me know and il do my best to answer / post a video on it :-)
I bought a 64gb memory card because it kept telling me my installed memory was insufficient, but the GO 6000 will not accept it even after I formatted the card on another device, any ideas?
Does anyone know how to release the Go 6000 from the supplied windscreen attachment?
+ZigSputnik A brick through the window should work.
Lol, whilst a brick may work ( at your own risk ) I'd prefer to simply pull the top of the sat nav towards you, the magnet will release but don't be afraid to give it a firm pull.
good stuff thanks
Where's the 3d buildings and color???
when come to us ?
foran rubbish ...LOL love it
No my warning sounds are fine, maybe try a reset.
Where is the sound?
Hehe... other reviews being "foreign rubbish"... they must have been English ;-)
Ha ha, nah the English are ok. At the time I did this video all the other videos were talking parcel tongue :-)
Lmao... You realise this is UA-cam right? I was just doing a video to show people some of the device that other videos at the time did not! ... And a tripod? Pmsl I'm not shooting a Hollywood movie! Anyways if you have a problem firstly tell someone who cares and secondly don't watch the video!
Those socks are actually made in the uk.....feel like a c**k now?
But apart from that I can't fault it :-)
Seems more of a statement than a question lol
