Personally this drawing experience looks better than the Samsung drawing experience. No tilt is an issue... But for me personally it might not be so bad. I'm seriously thinking of getting one.

I previously had the s6 lite, but dropped it from under 20cm onto concrete and it cracked the screen beyond repair. looking forward to having a decent digital sketch book again.
I'd just like to say.. I've received my magic pad and unboxing it was bloody wonderful. The included case is excellent and even has little feet, so it doesn't fit flat on desk. I actually liked the tablet, but where I live we don’t have an actual dealer for XP Pen, especially when if it needed repairs incase of damage. Another thing is the calibration of the pen is not perfect as you mentioned. Now the price is very reasonable for what its offering but this is something I need to think more about
Would be interesting to see you use the x3 pro pen that comes with the artist pro 16 on that tablet, and also if there is a way to use the shortcuts by plugin it direcly by cable, if they worked it can be a nice second tablet to the artist pro.
Maybe the Samsung, but it really depends on the features you're looking for. The XPPen actually has more features - Matte display - More RAM and storage - Four way speakers - Visual quality of display is better Samsung has 90Hz display, S Pen has tilt support and no cursor misalignment.
@@teohontech7141 Thanks for the reply, yes the pen misalignment is my only real concern so not quite sure, if they bring out a driver fix then it makes sense but as it stands the Samsung makes more sense so not sure. Maybe I'll wait a bit and see if they fix that cursor, want it for drawing purposes so that's important
If it wasn't for the pen tip/cursor offset, this would be an instant buy for me. I've been looking for an android tablet with a wider aspect ratio. 16:9/16:10 tablets feel awkward to hold vertically.
I'm considering the Samsung Galaxy tab S9 FE, 12.4" vs the Xppen Magic drawing pad. I'm a semi-professional artist, and have been trying on paper for my whole life. This will be my first drawing tablet. I'm leaning toward the Galaxy, mostly because of the pen tilt issue. I'd love to hear any thoughts that you have about one versus the other. Thanks for your super helpful reviews!
@@rangerkayla8824 I prefer Samsung because SamsungOS has more features. I'm not too bothered by lack of updates from XPPen. Even Android updates nowadays are just minor refinements, not huge features.
Thanks for the great review video! I also watched yours about the Samsung Galaxy S9 FE+ and still can't make up my mind, which to choose. So far I've been using a Wacom One 12 with paper foil for drawing, but I'm tired of the cable clutter and want to try a tablet. I use Clip Studio Paint for drawing, so I should be able to adjust the cursor properly, but I don't know if the tilt problem will bother me. The fact that the tablet sometimes reacts to the palm of the hand is also rather unfavorable for me. Can you tell me which surface has a better drawing (paper) feel?
Hello please I have a question can this tablet handle clip studio at full performance? Like drawing on a 32000 * 25600 px with 3d molds and stuff without closing?
i know they fixed the cursor offset thing, so i'm not worried about that - but, i would love to hear from someone who's had this for a while about how it holds up over time? my main concern with buying a standalone tablet is its longevity. is it made to last a few years? most samsung tablets i've had pretty much bite the dust after a year and it's by design so you're incentivized to buy a new one... :/
Great review. How does the drawing experience change with the different tips (felt Vs plastic)? Also have you tried XP-Pen's other pens on it. I have the artist 12 pen and hoping to use that when my tablet arrives.
Great review as alwqys, but I do have a question: based on drawing experience, is this tablet the better one, or the Artist Pro 16 gen2? I am unsure which one tu buy, because the Magic Pad is ofc a real tablet aswell. But at the same time, if the performance of the Artist Pro gen2 is better, than maybe getting that one is a better decision. What eould you reccomend more?
Artist Pro Gen 2 has better drawing performance since it has no cursor misalignment and there is tilt sensitivity. If you are doing serious art work, go for that.
3:2 vs 16:10 aspect ratio Matte vs glossy display Almost stock Android vs Samsung UI XPPen pen has cursor misalignment, no tilt XPPen pen has better pressure sensitivity
Hi, would you recommend this or the Samsung Galaxy tab s8 (or optionally s9)? In my country, due to taxing and export, the xp-pen magic pad will end up about 200 euros more expensive than I can get either Samsung for. However, the xp-pen seems optimalised for artists, both given it's size and just the general focus on the artistic aspect. However, I also see a lot of people really enjoying both Samsungs. I've never seen a direct comparison between the products so I'm very unsure. Especially since I already own a Huion Kamvas 22 that I'm very happy with - but I'll be traveling for a year and need a portable option that'll also be nice watching stuff on...
S8 and S9 are both good depending on your budget. Drawing experience will be slightly better simply because S Pen has tilt sensitivity. Doesn't make sense to get xppen in your country when it's gonna be more expensive.
Oh!! And will the shortcut remote work on it? I'm a huge sucker for the roller being used for zoom in and out in my artist 15.6 pro and I want to get the shortcut remote, but idk if it would work or not.
It works with Krita. Tablet has microSD card slot. Shortcut Remote will not work as there's no driver, so there's no way to customise the hotkeys. Keyboard shortcuts will work.
@@teohontech7141 do you know if the xiaomi pad 6 or Samsung Galaxy Tab S series tablets support a shortcut remote? i really want to draw digitally outside but having a remote for my hotkeys/shortcuts is a must. Or can the shortcut remotes only be used on the computer?
i'm looking forward to get this tablet in the near future, but the cursor misalignment and the lack of system memory is the only things that i've criticized for a bit, i'll wait for a V2 of the tablet w/ the issues fixed
Xppen has released firmware to fix/customise cursor misalignment www.reddit.com/r/XPpen/comments/1bsch46/cursor_misalignment_on_magic_drawing_pad_fixed/
Just curious: Is the lack of tilt support+misalignment due to the pen or in the tablet? If you use this pen on other xp-pen pen displays, does the misalignment disappear?
Cool. Nice review! Never heard of this until now. Not a big fan of tilt parallax. Can you turn off tilt function? I do love the fact that it takes a microsd card for more affordable storage. I have lots of software. Almost all my mobile devices have microsd except for my Apple iPad Pro. Might have to give this a try after watching your review. Now hoping Zbrush comes out on Android and not just Apple. 😊
Hello, I would like to ask you if you know another portable tablet on the market that does not have the problems of Tilt and misslinement, I would like something more professional to draw, i have experience using tablets, but I am looking for a portable tablet that does not necessarily have to be connected to a PC, incredible review , it left me wanting to buy the tablet, however, I prefer to save for the moment to see if another product or another version of this one comes out xd
Hi, I have 2 questions, which you have already answered one 😊 (PC mode). This pad is basically TCL NXTPAPER 12 pro. I am wondering if it has NXTVISION, which makes it like an ePaper and therefore it can be used as an eReader.
Hi 😊 I saw that you use infinite painter in the video. I also have an Xp-pen Magic Drawing Pad and I wanted to ask you if you can make timelapses with higher quality than 720p with infinite painter. On my tablet the resolution is stuck at 720p 😮💨 and it doesn't give me a choice when I create a new file even though I know on other tablets you can choose up to 4k 😣 I wanted to know if this is just my problem or if you've seen this too!
Was just going to say that I’ll be buying this and will use your affiliate link (if I can since I’m not in sg) since I’ve enjoyed your reviews and videos over the years. Just a question if you have the time: do you reckon it’s possible to put a more matte screen protector on this device? Not sure what sizes are available and if it’ll affect the pen alignment (which is challenging anyway). Thanks for all that you do 🙏🏼😊
@@teohontech7141 Let me tell you, I enjoy your videos because you really put the effort and "waste" money on tech. Im from Argentina. Xp-pen in Argentina is more expensive too. This is due to the cost of shipping from the central to the ""sucursal" (branch). But in Argentina there is also a "fee" for being able to import there. So most technology cost double the real price and is because of that, worth the time to check ... for example, AliExpress where the delivery will not cost as much and so the final price would be more cheap.
I'm looking at buying the Huion Kamvas Slate 10 as a portable drawing tablet. I already own and have used a GAOMON PD156PRO for 2 years now. I am not a beginner artist, but I'm not a professional either, moreso leaning toward the early skill of intermediate. I recognize the Slate 10 has the USI 2.0 Pen and wobble which may pose a problem as I drawing without smoothing. Both this and the Slate 10 seem to be underpowered, but I don't think it's a super big issue. I don't have the cash to spend 500 on the magic drawing pad. I think the Slate 10 would be perfect for my needs despite it's shortcomings, any other options at around the 250 price point that has pen support, laminated screen, matte screen protector options and portable? I may very well bite the bullet and get a Kamvas Slate 10 soon.
Hi Teoh, Ipadpro 12.9 2021 doesn't seema frenly on mu eye after long period usage, am consider this as replacement. iPad Pro will have better drawing experience. Tab S7FE is also LCD like the iPad Pro, but Tab S7FE is glossy and more reflective. iPad Pro display is much better than Tab S7FE. I'm not sure what's make your eyes tired so I can't recommend properly. Having a matte display does help I guess because there's no reflections.
@teohontech7141 Many thanks Teoh for the advices, I tired turn off True Tone and seems lower down the ipad eye strain. You are right drawing on S7FE is not as satisfying as ipadpro. I probably still gonna bite the bullet and get one of the Nxtpaper tablets to compare in person

Samsung is better since there is tilt sensitivity. That may or may not matter depending on whether you use tilt brushes. S8 series is better since it is newer

Always wondering what's the biggest size format you can work with on this tablets without losing smooth performance... I hope one day you can make a video about this.
I really appreciate this review. I was wondering how this tablet would work for "real" art. I think I'll stick with my Samsung tablet. The S-pen support is much better than this. I was afraid this and the recent Huion would be too much like generic Android tablets and it seems to be the case. Yes, the XP-Pen name is on it but I really don't need another tablet. I'm still hoping the Kindle Scribe updates enough to be useful as a digital sketchbook without all the Android bells and whistles.
I'm considering between this and Samsung galaxy tab s9 FE+. Since I'm going to buy my first tablet and planning to use it for other purposes like studying, taking notes and surfing net other than drawing, I'd like to hear your input about which one will be better. While I'm more familiar with IOS, my budget is limited so I'll still having to get used to Android system buying either of these. While I like XP-pen's screen ratio and screen, apparently it runs on an average processor (stock Android) and the Android is a bit outdated, plus the chip-powered pen might not last long. Plus in my country we don't have official XP-pen stores (there are a few showrooms that sell them directly, but not in where I live) so I'd have to order the thing completely online, and there'd be nowhere to fix if issues arise. As for samsung, my country doesn't sell the lavender color for some reason (just silver, grey and mint green). At the time I'm writing this, some stores near my city are out of stock so I might have to order it online too. Tilting isn't an issue because to me pressure > tilt, but the glass screen is a bit too glossy for me, and buying the paperlike screen might cost a little more.
This is a tough choice because each tablet has its pros and cons. Don't worry too much about outdated Android because you can still install apps and all apps will still run in the future. Nowadays Android OS updates just add minor features anyway. For pen performance Samsung S Pen and Apple Pencil are best. In terms of value for money, Samsung and XPpen provide better value simply because of the lower price point. For writing, I probably recommend Samsung because of the better latency and 90Hz refresh display. iPad base model is ancient.
@@teohontech7141 Because I intend to use the tablet for a long time (at least 4-5 years without changing) so I was a bit hesitant knowing Android 12 is the oldest one running by the current point in time. Thank you for the recommendation!

Hello. Thanks for your great reviews. I see you have mentioned it comes with L1 certificate to play high definition content from streaming platforms but I have read in some XPpen reddit posts that it actually comes with L3 alone and it cant reproduce content huger than 480p so I am confused on this topic. Can you or anyone in these comments confirm that this tablet is able to reproduce higher resolution videos than 480p on streaming platforms like netflix/amazon etc?
It's Widevine L3, so this tablet won't be stream high-resolution videos from UA-cam, Netflix, and other video streaming websites. If I mentioned L1 in this video, then I have made a mistake.
@@teohontech7141 Thanks for the clarification. It is in 14:52 when it is mentioned. Sadly it is L3, this tablet might have the whole package for me if it was L1.
Thanks for mentioning that you can uninstall the pre-installed apps! I've been trying to find an answer to that. Are there any apps on the device that can't be uninstalled like Google apps or others?
Thanks for doing review! Do you know if this has 1. PWM flicker? (Flickering screen to save on battery) 2. Temporal dithering? (Flickering pixels to simulate a fake wider color space on software level instead for true 10 bit panel) My eyes are ultra sensitive to in particular temporal dithering. Most tablets today are impossible for me. (All Samsung Galaxy tabs and apple Released in last 5-7 years or so ) so I’m exploring off brands ones but also want to draw. Coincidentally Facebook showed an ad for this one and I got intrigued. No tilt is a pity though. Off cursor I guess I could hope for the update to work. New to android ecosystem: will this support all apps given from google play Store? Or is it limited? What about those android users talk about - apps downloaded from web?
Hi! quite late but would you recommend this or Xiaomi Mi Pad 6 for a beginner? Mostly be using note taking tbh but I'm actually looking to learn drawing in it.
Difficult question. In terms of specs, the XPPen Magic Drawing Pad is on par or better than the other two. Ultimately it comes down to which app you use. CSP and Ibis Paint X has adjustment for cursor misalignment. And whether you use tilt brushes. If you don't mind the cursor misalignment, to me it's not a big deal but to others it may be. Samsung S Pen will still have the best drawing performance.
Hey everyone! I'm thinking about buying the XP Magic pad tablet and would like to know if it's compatible with other EMR pens such as the Lamy pen, the Kindle scribe pen and Samsung pens? Thanks for sharing your experience and tips.
Many thanks@@teohontech7141 Would you say that the Samsung S9 FE+ with the matte screen protector is a good alternative to the XPPen Magic Drawing Pad? I'm looking for a standalone colour drawing tablet with a paper-like feel and great drawing experience. Kindle Scribe is quite good for sketching but has a basic eraser and layers. Thanks for sharing your insights.
@@francoisreynier1780 If you use a matte screen protector, you will have to switch the soft nib to hard plastic nib. Then the drawing experience should be similar. But note the limitation of the XPPen pen mentioned in the video, cursor misalignment when held at an angle, and no tilt sensitivity.
Question: Is Clip Studio Paint subscription only on the Magic Pad like iPad, or can I actually buy it and keep it forever like on my laptop? I am asking cuz I am reeeeally interested in getting this and wanna replace the iPad since CSP gets weird on it sometimes.
Would you recommend buying a xpen magic drawing pad, Samsung tab s9 fe+ or a xpen pen display? I had a huion pro 16, but it broke recently, so i'm trying to find an alternative. I dont have the budget to buy an ipad so...
Choose based on the software you want to use. If you don't have to use desktop apps for drawing, getting the portable tablets will be more convenient that's for sure. So it will be between 12.2-inch xppen and vs 11 Samsung Tab S9 FE. It's a difficult choice. I personally may prefer Samsung because I do use tilt brushes and S Pen has tilt while xppen's pen does not have tilt. But I like xppen display 3:2 aspect ratio much more, and the matte display is kinda nice. This xppen tablet is quite good with the only downside being the lack of tilt sensitivity for the brush that's all.
@@teohontech7141 yes, I think I will go with Samsung S9 fe+, xp pen also doesn't have a support here (Brazil), so if anything happens I can't even have it fixed, and tilt does matter for me. I mostly use clip Studio paint, and most reviews seem to agree it works just fine on tab s9 fe . Thanks for the quick response!! It helped a lot 🤗
Will this work with SuperDisplay? I'm looking for a wireless solution to use with my desktop PC (for 3D sculpting/modelling, etc). Will it also work with the XP Pen shortcut remote too?
Works with SuperDisplay. Does not work with shortcut remote. The Huion K20 shortcut remote does work with Android tablets www.parkablogs.com/content/review-huion-k20-keydial-mini
The S Pen from the Tab S7, 8, 9 would be the smallest I would go for. They are still thick enough to hold comfortably. If the pen is bigger like the pen displays' pen, that's alright too.
I feel like there are better options. Why not just get a Tab S9 FE? Or could even get previous years model used. I got a Tab S8+ w/ keyboard dock for less than this cost.
I got the Kamvas Pro 19 4k and every drawing app on Win11 the cursor stays on while drawing. This blocks my view of the stroke. For this reason I plan on returning it. Do the XP Pen tablets do this? Especially in Concepts there’s a tiny crosshair cursor.
Whether the crosshair cursor can be turned off depends on the app you use. It's not because of the pen display or Huion software. E.g. That crosshair is still there with your normal computer monitor
Dimensity 700 for the price of cheapest S8 Ultra and S9 Ultra option. I can say it is the worst tablet to draw on, 10 times slower than both samsung tablets, worse brightness, worse resolution, and worse pen
Some pens from pen displays years ago also behave this way. The calibration needed is different from calibrating parallax because this is not parallax. And there's no driver in this tablet so there's no way to calibrate the cursor misalignment universally. Hopefully XPPen can improve this in the future.
It's caused by the factory calibration, they calibrate with the pen at 90° to accommodate both right and left handed people, I heard they're working on a tool to calibrate it yourself
@@teohontech7141thank you. How about that "Sketchbook" app. Is that for vector users from adobe? Is it already fully installed when purchasing this tablet ?
The misaligned pen/cursor is also happened to other reviewers, so I believe it's the inherent problem with the tablet/pen, not a defect or isolated one... With digital tablet, you can calibrate this problem, but with android tablet... well, you can't... Which is a shame, since this is not a tablet and drawing capability is the main selling point of this tablet. I guess I will just stick with Samsung Galaxy and S-Pen.
Why does everyone list the area ratio instead of the coverage ratio? The area ratio is a useless number and tells you nothing about what colors the screen actually reproduces.
There is not a tablet on that size. The models for desk tablet monitors do exist and the pen is compatible with this model. The artist pro 2gen 16 is a really nice option for that
I am indeed excited for this development, buuuuuuuut there are things that are still make this inferior to Samsung S tablets, like the S9 FE and S9 FE+.
What bothers me most about this device is how slow it is with reacting to your pen strokes - even at low stabilization settings, the lines lag behind significantly when sketching or doing even the slightest fast strokes. It's very annoying.

I actually liked the tablet, but where I live we don’t have an actual dealer for XP Pen, especially when if it needed repairs incase of damage. Another thing is the calibration of the pen is not perfect as you mentioned. Now the price is very reasonable for what its offering but this is something I need to think more about
I would love to see a comparison of samsung tab s8 ultra vs XP Pen Magic drawing pad
Would be interesting to see you use the x3 pro pen that comes with the artist pro 16 on that tablet, and also if there is a way to use the shortcuts by plugin it direcly by cable, if they worked it can be a nice second tablet to the artist pro.
Thanks for the review, between the This XPPen and the Galaxy Tab S9 FE/FE+ which would you suggest?
Maybe the Samsung, but it really depends on the features you're looking for.
The XPPen actually has more features
- Matte display
- More RAM and storage
- Four way speakers
- Visual quality of display is better
Samsung has 90Hz display, S Pen has tilt support and no cursor misalignment.
I think pen tilt is very useful. I use it often.
Hey, I was also stuck between the 2 and was wondering if you managed to make a decision on which.
@@Dezmod101 I bought the xpen magic tablet. It's working great and I find the pen better than Samsung's variant.

Cursor offset is not allowed.
Luckily i use clip studio paint. I can just adjust the cursor. But im still hoping they fix that misalignment
thank you so much for this review! I'm glad I hold my pen straight like a wierdo (I'm left handed also) because that seems to be the best way : )
Xppen has added the setting to correct for cursor offset
Great review. How does the drawing experience change with the different tips (felt Vs plastic)? Also have you tried XP-Pen's other pens on it. I have the artist 12 pen and hoping to use that when my tablet arrives.
Thank you, Teoh! 😄

This is a fantastic, in-depth review, thank you so much! Now is there any chance of a direct comparison with the Galaxy Tab S9 FE?

Matte vs glossy display
Almost stock Android vs Samsung UI
XPPen pen has cursor misalignment, no tilt
XPPen pen has better pressure sensitivity

Xppen has released firmware to fix/customise cursor misalignment
www.reddit.com/r/XPpen/comments/1bsch46/cursor_misalignment_on_magic_drawing_pad_fixed/
Just curious: Is the lack of tilt support+misalignment due to the pen or in the tablet? If you use this pen on other xp-pen pen displays, does the misalignment disappear?
Not exactly sure. The tablet is compatible with other XPPen X3 pens but I don't have those to test on this tablet.
Is just in this portable model. The desk tablets and monitors works really good with tilt support and if there is a misaligned is easy to fix it
Curious if the tablet let's you use other XP Pens that can rectify that angle sensitivity.
I saw in a different review that it does let you use other XP Pens...but no mention of if it enables tilt.
There's no tilt sensitivity so it cannot be turned on or off.
The cursor misalignment due to tilt is hardware related.

Hi,
I have 2 questions, which you have already answered one 😊 (PC mode).
On my tablet the resolution is stuck at 720p 😮💨 and it doesn't give me a choice when I create a new file even though I know on other tablets you can choose up to 4k 😣
I wanted to know if this is just my problem or if you've seen this too!
So far I draw more on the magic tab than my artist 12 gen2. And the best part? *CURSOR OFFSET* is finally in the system setting.
So XPPen has updated the firmware to include cursor offset?
Was just going to say that I’ll be buying this and will use your affiliate link (if I can since I’m not in sg) since I’ve enjoyed your reviews and videos over the years.
Just a question if you have the time: do you reckon it’s possible to put a more matte screen protector on this device? Not sure what sizes are available and if it’ll affect the pen alignment (which is challenging anyway).
Thanks for all that you do 🙏🏼😊
For some reason, the tablet is way more expensive on Shopee SG, Lazada SG and XPPen Singapore store compared to XPPen global store.

Always wondering what's the biggest size format you can work with on this tablets without losing smooth performance... I hope one day you can make a video about this.
You can lose the smooth performance with a huge textured brush. As for format size, nowadays tablets can easily handle A3 300DPI without issues.
And you can use any emr pen with your Samsung tablet.

Which one do you recommend to draw between this, the Oneplus pad and the Galaxy Tab S9 Fe? (the cursor misalignment have been fixed on this)
Would you recommend it over a tab s9 fe or a Xiaomi pad 6 ?
Difficult question. In terms of specs, the XPPen Magic Drawing Pad is on par or better than the other two. Ultimately it comes down to which app you use. CSP and Ibis Paint X has adjustment for cursor misalignment. And whether you use tilt brushes. If you don't mind the cursor misalignment, to me it's not a big deal but to others it may be. Samsung S Pen will still have the best drawing performance.
I really wanted to like this, unfortunately that unpowered chip is going to effect longevity and running Nomad sculpt (my use case).

Hello Mr. Teoh I wanna ask about the pen that does not support tilt what does that mean?
Some pens can tilt to draw on the side, to create broad strokes. E.g. Just like a wooden pencil. But the XPPen's pen cannot.
Hello, is it possible to make it a second screen, to use photoshop on it like a normal tab ? USB, Blutooth ? Thank for your answer.
You can with the appropriate app, but there will be noticeable latency while drawing
I wanted a tablet but in Brazil it's expensive😢
Does it have an auto curve and straight lines correction / assist like ProCreate ?
Yes, but it will depend on the app you use
I feel like there are better options. Why not just get a Tab S9 FE? Or could even get previous years model used. I got a Tab S8+ w/ keyboard dock for less than this cost.
Because the pressure sensitivity of the S Pen is still not at the same level of pen displays and pen tablets.
Can you re-bind the button on the pen to do something else? And does krita work on it?
Side button shortcut will vary depending on the drawing app you use. Not all apps allow you to re-bind that pen side button.

Some pens from pen displays years ago also behave this way. The calibration needed is different from calibrating parallax because this is not parallax.
