    I agree with you on the open space grazing. You are so thoughtful of your horses. That’s one of the reason I watch you. You let horses be horses.

    What a clever idea! Good property management and supports mental health for your horses. I really like your style of horsemanship. Laid back, family/herd oriented, and well seasoned with common sense.

    Horses are herd animals and thrive being with others, they need movement and variety in their lives.
    A paddock paradise system is so much more healthier for horses than tiny boring yards.
    It gives horses the mental stimulation they need and creates a much happier and relaxed horse.
    If you look at horses in the wild or even in a pasture and see how much the horse moves around compared to horses housed in a yard or stable it’s a no brainer that a track system is much horse friendlier management system
    😊👍🏽

    I learned something that I had asked about when I first began watching your videos. And that is; it's good to know that you free range your OWN personal horse's together. That's great! I've always not liked the idea that horse's are kept separated, I know that's not good for them because they ARE social animals and depend on each other for good mental health, as well as grooming and that sort of thing. I absolutely LOVE your property! It's so Beautiful! You do a great job maintaining it.

    I guess mine is like a paddock paradise. I have their paddock that has a gate that can open into their field. I have another field that I close off to let grass grow that has a around about that goes back to their paddock. I hope that made sense. Wish I could draw it on here. I really like how yours are set up for a lot of horses.

    Yes, a great idea for happy horses to roam a bit more, as they all get on well. I'm concerned about the weeds on the other side of the fence, as some plants can be toxic, should they try to push their heads to grap some. Difficult to detect buttercups when they stop producing flowers. What happened to Ruly's foot, she has a bandage. Peggy's summer coat color is awesome with her white mane and tail.

      Just a scrape from lying down, almost all healed up. It's more of a cover for her pasterns as the ground is so hard to lie down on.

      Soon buttercups' flowers will no longer blossom, only the leaves will mix up with the grass, which will make it difficult to just remove the plants themselves

      Buttercups give horses ulcers !!!!!

    • @StableHorseTraining
      @StableHorseTraining  5 років тому

      Sallyanne, can you provide some proof of that? I've never heard that and I feel like I've heard a lot of things. Ulcers are sores on the stomach lining of the horse and the amount of time forage spends in the stomach relative to the amount of other food in there makes it hard to believe that theory and I'm very interested in seeing how that was proven. Perhaps if all the horse ate was buttercups, then maybe. The leaves and stalks aren't proven to be bad for horses too much, it's the roots that hold the negative effects, mostly indigestion, but I've never heard of ulcers which actually take quite a bit of time to form.

    This may be a dumb question, but are those white fence wires/strings(?) strong enough to stop a horse? are they plastic? or coated wire? Thanks!

    • @StableHorseTraining
      @StableHorseTraining  5 років тому +1

      Not a dumb question at all. They are a type of stretchy plastic. Originally called Bayco Fencing. Very strong and durable and easy to install. Also relatively cheap against all other alternatives.

    What do you do when one horse becomes best friends with another horse and they won’t leave each other?

    • @StableHorseTraining
      @StableHorseTraining  5 років тому +4

      Healthy social horses can make friends with any horse. I'm going to make an assumption though that you're referring to a situation where there are only 2 horses. There's very little you can do about that other than to acclimate them both to the idea that one will leave and come back in time. Start with short times, extend them. Over time the horse that is left, will calm. Remember that horses live in the moment and have very little foresight. They think that when you take their friend out that they'll never see them again and horses hate being alone, it's quite scary for some.
