I’ve been coming to Alaska for about 14 years to visit my son, and to hunt and fish. Eight years ago we bought our cabin at Big Lake with intention of spending two months a year up here, and the rest of the year at our house in AZ.. We fell so in love with AK that we sold the home in AZ. Unfortunately my health as taken a turn for the worst, with very advanced prostate cancer, and now last week I had a stroke, the Drs then discovered my heart is not functioning very well. I’m doing pretty good, still snowmachining, and staying active. I can’t do what I used to do so I really look forward to your videos. It’s like still doing the things I enjoy while sitting in my recliner. Keep doing the things you love Tim, you never know when you won’t be able to.

So sorry your health has turned. I pray Jesus can put his healing hands on you and keeps you active.
I've got multiple myeloma in the early stages and the fatigue is so frustrating and to keep active and do what you enjoy is so important. 🙏 🤲

WE LOVE everything you do and please do NOT consider this a FAIL..... every time you go its a learning curve!! Next time Im sure you will have crossed all t's and dotted all i's..... can't wait to see the vid!! PS if you ever get back to Cataloochi I live in Maggie Valley.... would so LOVE a coffee and chat!! I commend you for having the intestinal fortitude to even attempt a trek like this by yourself! I can tell by your videos and explanation of why and how you do things like making sure you have a bottle of propane with you in case your truck doesn't start and your in a remote area where there is no one around. It's a risk but I get why you love it if I lived up there I would probably do it once a year depending on how expensive fuel is at the time. I appreciate you sharing your experience I am into adventures by ordinary hard working people!

$7.50 a gallon and am over here complaining about $3.26 Reg and $3.74 Diesel a gallon, Smh. These old fords are tough if you maintain them as supposed to. I enjoyed this immensely, Hopefully you are able to make it next time. Not making it is part of the adventure, i am glad you turned around for your safety. Alaska is God's wonderland. The nature and animals are mind blowing. Animals especially birds are bale to survive those -50+ degree weather? Wow its something to digest when a human like me cant even survive without clothes if its 30 degrees.

Timmy, i wouldn't worry too much about wet stacking. Semi's idle constantly. The 7.3 in your truck was used in ambulances, etc. that also never shut off.
Something you might want to consider is a hydronic diesel heater it will keep your engine warm and allow easy starts in cold and sip on fuel.
    Keep on truckin!

Just be careful using it while driving, they are cracking down on youtubers to make an example for other FPV people. If you're the passenger its fine, and it has some automatic following modes but if they think its being operated manually or not within LOS they will start to be jerks so be careful. You'd think not a big deal so far from people but they dont care lol. I love the videos though, great shots and keep trying for the ocean, the attempts have been a blast to watch!

pro tip on the coffee my man....don't put it in the pour over right away, get a thermometer and wait for the water to cool to 190 or just below. Than pour it over the coffee....."optimal" extraction temp. Taste is noticeably different. When water is 200 or higher to much of stuff you don't want gets extracted....tastes thin and burnt.

A 1kW generator would supply juice to your block heater and battery blanket for a fraction the cost. Just park out of the wind and consider a truck skirt to hold in the heat. Some people set up a type of blow torch to get heat to the engine etc. It's like a steel tube and you only run it for about 30 minutes under the engine. You can try it out when you go to Tuktoyaktuk next winter. Kanuck bucks are cheap.

Love that we didn't damage the old 7.3!!!!! Another person commented on putting a blanket or heat keeping shield underneath your engine bay. Wouldn't that allow you to keep things toasty with your engine diesel heater??? I would love to see that thing blast off at -50!! Probably need to experiment closer to home or a warm building till you get it right. Thanks for the entertainment!!!!

You want to idle up when parked. I have a series 60 Detroit engine, this is a tractor for a large truck. IF I just idle after parked it will have a warning light on the dash come on that says " engine protection shutdown ", and will shut down a few seconds later. When I park l have to have the cruise control on and just hit resume and it will idle up. There is a over ride shutdown I can use to keep that from happening in case something keeps me from engaging the idle up until help arrived. With my motor it increases the idle at 200 Rpm. That increases the oil pressure and burn a little hotter keeping down carbon build up on the pistols and fuel injectors. Idle your truck up my friend, the little you spend in fuel will pay off in the end. MY estimation on the fuel you used 10 gallons or a little more because you stayed warm and your truck was happy. I'll keep watching, you stay safe.

Road snacks - I am very and oddly passionate about this, having done many 12 hour straight through slogs (which I know is nothing in this demographic). Beef jerky! It doesn't need to be hot or cold, doesn't need to be preserved in a cooler, doesn't need silverware or napkins. You can eat it without ever taking your eyes off the road. It's tasty and available at every single stop in America. I never leave for a drive longer than 6.hours without jerky. Also, it keeps forever

Greetings from Finland. I guess we have a little warmer here ;) Just found out your entertaining channel, thank you. I Used to drive 6.2d chevy van every day. That was a freaking cold car in the winter. Couple of times I had to make a fire under the fuel tank, to melt the diesel... Anyway, Instead of idling the whole night, you could keep the block just above freezing with one eberspacher or webasto or similar water heater with way less fuel. Those consume only one gallon in 8 hours, but I guess you know already. Your f350 disel engine( 7.3l, 445cid? ) breathes super cold air about 400cidV8 * 1000rpm/2 = 200 000cid per minute. It is a hell of a cooling. It's a miracle if it keeps the block above +80F idling in -75F weather. Thermally isolating the engine bay ain't bad idea either. And definitely keep the cranking batteries in warm place. Lead battery's energy drops 90% in very cold weather. And it won't take charging either. Maybe you know all of this already. Just making sure ;) Stay warm.

fave road snack for me and my mom is M&Ms and Mountain Dew (the full up, caffeinated, no diet anything MDew). You can drive for days jacked up on Chocolate and Caffeine. We drove for 4 days, taking turns of course, but we stayed wide awake and had a ball. We drove from Alabama to Arizona in 4 days and after we arrived. we still couldn't sleep so we went sightseeing for about 8 hours and we finally started getting sleepy. We went back to the hotel and I swear to you we slept like 12 hours. Funny story I know but its very real. So, if you have long distances to cover get you some M&Ms and Mountain Dew.

We're in the corner of South Carolina just a few minutes from Georgia one way or North Carolina the other way. My husband and I are enjoying following your adventure on UA-cam. Years ago we'd thought of travel to Alaska, but both of us have health that couldn't tolerate it now. My mister was a fine mechanic back in the day and is taking everything about the diesel in, and explaining it to me like our old times and was coffee in hand silent, watching the diesel not starting in the bitter cold at your buddies house, and the loading on the flatbed. It was great to see him so interested again. We're amazed seeing the truck cabin you made keep you so warm and cozy. Dude, thank you so much for sharing this adventure and the music too! It is all about the journey indeed, and everyone you're meeting up there are just such cool folks! Safe travels and thanks again for sharing these real adventures.😊

Because your truck used more fuel than you were expecting I wanted to make a suggestion. That truck was designed for the lower 48 not necessarily for negative degree weather it's exposed to. I'm sure the thermostat in that motor is probably a 160 or possibly a 180 degree thermostat. Speak with an experienced professional mechanic in your area that knows the ends and outs with living in extremely cold weather. When you run a 190 or 200 degree thermostat, you will in fact get a better fuel mileage vrs. using a colder thermostat. That truck will get better fuel mileage than it's getting now with a hotter thermostat vrs. a standard temp thermostat that wasn't intended to run in an extremely cold environment. Check with a trusted professional mechanic and see if he will agree that running a hotter thermostat than what you have now will in fact result in getting better fuel mileage. Love your show brother, keep it up.

Bummer you didn't make it to the ocean, but it's a wise man who knows his limits, and it takes a lot of maturity to say "no, I'm not going to do it" even when you'd invested so much time, energy, and money into the trip.
Have you ever considered doing the Dempster Highway in Canada? It's similar in many ways to the Dalton, but since the extension in 2017, it now takes you all the way to the Arctic Ocean in Tuktoyaktuk. It's open most of the year, but it does close for a few weeks in the spring and fall while the Peel and Mackenzie rivers are freezing up and thawing. There are ferries in the summer, and ice roads in the winter.

If that happens, it would be a cold wait to be rescued. Winds get crazy here in Yuma AZ desert, but it fluctuates. I cannot imagine staying in that for a week or more!
