D.I.Y. - How to Install LED Dash Upgrade | Updated

  • I show you how to FULLY upgrade your current lighting in your vehicle dash cluster. Specifically in this video I show you on a 1997 Ford Mustang Cobra. First I replace all of the old bulbs for the main gauges, with the newest Yorkim version 6 LED lights. I then install Jtech LED lights for the warning lights and turn signals.
    The red LEDs did not seem to show through the face plate, so I just went with the Blue and Green LEDs.
    I also want to thank all of my viewers from my previous LED Dash video. I hope this video is to your liking and is better than my last, so let me know what you think in the comments.

    Although I have a different type car, I suppose the principle is the same. Thank you for taking the time to post and share how to do this project. I want to put blue LEDs in my dash cluster lights. I don't think they have ever been changed, and some are going out, so it is a good time to replace bulbs. Thanks again.

    LED also has color temperature with narrow range. This means that the gauge needles may not conduct/reflect the LED light if the color temp. range is off. Users might try different kinds of LED bulbs to find the best effect for yourself.

    I ordered exactly what you used. I’ve done LED conversion externally & internally on a couple of my cars/trucks, but never on the instrument panel. However, the T5 (small bulbs) must be getting a minute amount of residual voltage because when I start the car, several of them are staying dimly lit on my ‘97 Mustang GT. 🤷🏻‍♂️😞

      I don’t, but you can scrape off the colored filament and it will shine through the color of the LED. You can also use a transparent but opaque paint to diffuse the LED light. At this time, I’m not sure what kind of paint to use. I may look into doing that though

    Does the cluster have a color filter for the indicator lights? I noticed the seatbelt light looks kind of purple, which might be from the blue LED you used going through a red film in the clusters.
    I'm thinking of just getting white LEDs for them and keep whatever color the cluster has for them

    • @SwordInc

      White LEDs will work great if you want to keep the factory color. You could also scrape off the film, if you want to use a different color

    i want to do these colors for my 98 Civic LX but i’m confused by what sizes i need and how many bulbs of each i would need. do you happen to know?

    • @SwordInc
      @SwordInc  4 роки тому +1

      I would recommend doing a google search on the bulb size. As for how many you need, pop the gauge out and see how many are in there. You may have multiple size bulbs as well

    I have an 01 Mustang GT, I am aware that the bulb size is T5, but my question is can I just plug and play the bulbs without any problems? Because I see a lot of people talking about “you have to sand out the green film” and others that say “you don’t have to sand out anything”. Any advice?

    • @SwordInc
      @SwordInc  6 років тому

      It depends, do you like the color of the gauges to begin with? If yes, go with a white LED. If No, scrape the film off and get the color LED you want.

    • @SwordInc

      You might need only T5 bulbs for the 2005. Double check with the manufacturer to be sure, or just pop them out to see

    Awesome, subbed. I have a 1997 Rio Red Cobra and I am doing this to my car this weekend. Do you find that its to bright at all?

    • @SwordInc
      @SwordInc  8 років тому +1

      Thank you for subbing. When there are no street lights it can be pretty bright but you can just turn the light knob and dim it. Works the same as regular lights. I just installed some Halo HID headlight and will be uploading the video some time this week.

    Hello I hope u Can please help :(
    So I was gonna change the LED’s for my 95 GT’s gauge cluster and well it had aftermarket white faces the previous owner had installed. I had to remove the needles but now my needles are off… my speed, tach, fuel are off. My battery and fuel pressure are working perfectly. Any help or advice to fix the other three? :/ I’m told to fill the tank to full and put the needle there and then just use a gps to check for speed and tach well I pretty much know where mine idles around 800-900.

      Either go with White, or Green LEDs and let that green shine more. If not you may have to scrape the green color off the gauges

    Can you do a video on changing the stereo and cd changer on a 1999 v6 mustang. or any new edge. thank you!

    • @SwordInc
      @SwordInc  7 років тому +1

      I don't have a CD changer in my Cobra and the radio that was in it was all wired wrong. I have no idea who installed it, but there were wires everywhere and all cut up too. Wires spliced together that should not have been. A huge mess.

    • @MexLopezMoDz1337
      @MexLopezMoDz1337 7 років тому +1

      Darian Bogart if you're changing to an aftermarket radio you can just get a 99-04 aftermarket radio plug and play connection and from them splice and clamp your wires together it isnt hard i didn't bought no plug and play i just clamp wire to wire, most of it its color coded
      You can search online the radio wiring diagram and from there just splice to your aftermarket radio

    • @stevecobratei8538
      @stevecobratei8538 6 років тому

      Darian Bogart,
      The easy estate way to change the radio is to get a package of scotch locks so you don't need to cut any wires at the radio. For the speakers, most likely you will add an amp so use the speaker output wires from the new radio and run new wires (14 - 16 gauge) to your speakers. Remove the wire connector from the speakers that go to your old radio and leave them right where they are and connect your new speaker wires using spade connectors.
      Job done and none of the original wires are cut or messed up so later if you decide to reconnect the stock speakers and radio you can do so very easily all you would need to do is remove the scotch locks from the power lines connecting to the original radio power and ground which you use to power the new radio .
      P.S. DO NOT CUT the original radios shielded speaker wires. They are not needed and a lot easier to run new speaker wires from your new radio.

    did you get a chance to write down the polarity of the lights? it would be great to post a polariy diagram so we don't have to keep testing each light.

      Cristian Ramos nope for my gauge cluster I used T5s for the whole thing and I would recommend using blue as because of the green filter on the gauge face red does not show at night at all but blue is very visible. use T10 only for the HVAC unit

      I’m not sure. It depends on the bulb size of your dash lights. Most likely it will work, you just need the correct bulb size to fit.

  • @JonYugen
    @JonYugen 6 років тому +2

    If you wanna test all bulbs, hold the button that resets the miles while the car is completely off then while you hold it down, turn the key to the on position (not the start position) then wait until it says "test" on the odometer. Once that has happened, let go of the button and you will now be able to switch it to different modes, keep pressing the reset button until you get to the mode that says "bulb test." It should be the 2nd one, can't remember so don't go too fast and skip it by accident.

    • @JonYugen
      @JonYugen 6 років тому +1
