People say that the 12C lacks soul, I disagree you can see how passionate they are about the car, the attention to detail, the way they talk about them, and not to mention that it looks beutiful.
Can't argue with that. The thing with the Mclaran is it's very conservative in its looks. if your spending 6 figures on a car you want to be like wow. Take the R8 it looks great from all angles.
Leon Henry McLarens do look awesome, I saw a 650s the other day and in the flesh it looks quite striking. But not all supercar owners just want something that looks like it belongs in Star Wars. Porches use very conservative looks and they are really popular
Driven has to be one of my favorite segments on drive. It is always a pleasure to see the details and back stories that we never get a chance to see or hear about. Thank JF keep up the good work.
Holy cow! This has to be the most amazing automotive production facility out there today. The level of attention to detail is unreal. I would love to tour this place.
mclaren are absolutely at the pinnacle of automotive design, they show their passion in a unique way by being 110% perfect in every possible way. people say ferrari have passion, but i see more passion and enthusiasm here at mclaren than anywhere else. they are artists. thank you for the great video!
I'm insanely jealous of J.F. McClaren, Lambo, Pagani, Porsche, one lucky guy indeed. These episodes have been exemplary, I hope we see more of them in the future but you have set the bar very high! Thanks.
i really love the idea of minimalism with the car. The shrinkwrapping idea, just you and the car.No bloated fenders for the sake of it, small, neat, composed, classic, evolved for perfection. That volcano orange color is stunning.
The whole point of McLarens production facility is to elevate the process to a level beyond the competition. Only by striving for perfection, will technology, manufacturing and human knowledge be bettered. This is an evolution that others will surely strive to emulate.
Love this show the best so far. You don't get any of this when Leno visits and just says "very nice" all the time. The best part I think is the genuine passion I've seen from all the places you've visited so far, really inspiring.
Beautiful work JF and the rest of the Drive team. The 26 minutes just flew past. The pacing was great and also entertaining and informative. I've always admired McLaren and their passion for perfection and not necesarrily profit. With this video I'm even more impressed and I've got even more respect for them now.
JF, I just want to say I really appreciate you going through these various automotive factories and asking really competent questions not only about the vehicles but the design philosophy and general philosophy behind the points of construction themselves. I look forward to seeing more features such as this in the future, others in the automotive journalism world can really learn from how you are conducting these tours.
To you guys @Drive I want to thank you for all these great videos you guys are producing. You keep your ear to your viewers and that is why I think your channel is becoming my favorite automotive show overall.
This makes me so proud not only to be British, but to live in the same wonderful Southern English county of Surrey as McLaren (not to mention Caterham and, in former years, the legendary Tyrrell and Rob Walker teams). One of the most beautiful parts of all England and such a powerhouse of real industrial activity at a level which is almost an art form. Long may this continue - and may the clean, uncluttered, hand-built approach of the MTC filter down to the rest of our great car industry.
This was a truly epic episode of DRIVEN. The production quality was fantastic, and the editing was top notch! I absolutely LOVED this tour and insight into McLaren's incredible factory and production methodology.
This is awesome. No other car show gives the viewer this much in depth information about a car company. No other show even comes close to giving as deep an understanding about a manufacturers ideology, history and goals as Drive does. I have found these absolutely fascinating, thank you!
@@jonathankey6444 spent 2 years there in the end, after traveling 500 miles a week for that long I threw in the towel, and went to Aston Martin which was closer for a year, now own a smart repair company. Overall was a nice place to work learnt a lot!
Before this I never would have considered buying a McLaren over a Ferrari, Lambo or Porsche but now, top of my list. This video has managed to inject the passion, I thought that was exclusive to the Italian and more established brands, into this car. So so so impressed. Excellent work guys.
It's important to remember that the italia lap was done by sacked stig and the mp4-12c was lapped by new stig, it's also worth noting that somewhere on youtube is a video of sacked stig taking various cars around a track including the 458 and the mp4-12c and in that comparison the 458 ended up being quicker then the mp4-12c.
These last couple videos (Lambo, pogani) and now Mclaren are fantastic. this is exactly the type of stuff automotive enthusiasts want to see. Keep it up JF. I hope you guys pay a visit and do a video on Aston Martin sometime.
Very nice production piece, this was easily a show that could be broadcast on television as well. Thank you for putting this together for our viewing enjoyment.
I just want to thank drive for this great series and for sharing with us these Amazing places and cars most viewers couldn't have imagined to see and experience
These episodes are awesome! As both a film nut and tech/car nut the Driven series hit's home on several levels! They're like DVD bonus features for cars! Love the music, editing and drama infused into every episode! Bravo!
it looks like some kind of space station, incredible. im sure anyone would be impressed with a tour round a prestigeous factory but listening to those sucess figures at the beginning. wow. thanks alot JF, this was amazing!
These videos are so awesome. Each one just oozes passion for automobiles. I love how large portions of the interviews are kept in. Its a really cool unfiltered insight into each manufacturers philosophy that allows the viewer get a feel for each brand. Please keep making these.
As an engineer who works in electronics manufacturing, seeing their factory's processes is quite refreshing - same manufacturing ideals. but applied to making cars with high precision, quality control, and beauty.
You guys should convince Cadillac to make some new ads. I like the ones that they have now, but even a video of the cts-v, which I love, can get old when you see it 100 times. I guess you can also consider this a compliment since the reason I've seen the current ads so many times is because I watch Drive so often. Good video JF
That was epic....I dream about these and you have made it worse! The coolest thing was when you said it needed a Trent Reznor soundtrack...too perfect. This was the best coverage of that factory by far...and It must be akknowledged of how accommidating Mclaren was to you, how awesome for such a personalized tour, and making the time to show you the vision that is Mclaren...I want one even more now! Thank-you J.F, Thank you DRIVE...That was awesome.
People should stop comparing everything to Top Gear, thinking it's the pinnacle of automotive reviews. JF, when you were on FLDetours, I always thought you were a total goof. But, seeing all you've been doing with //Drive has changed my mind completely. I really do think you have a vision. This, for lack of a better phrase to use sum up this experience is total awesomeness.
I want McLaren to build my.... EVERYTHING! Can you imagine how much less product breakdown there would be if every company took the time to ensure quality like these guys? Literally you could buy everything you ever wanted... ONCE! If I knew what I was going to buy would be solid, I'd have no problem whatsoever paying extra for it. Incredible guys... Incredible...
JF, you're editing style has improved drastically over the last 2 years. I constantly watch your videos for insights about how I should plan my own shots and edits. I haven't finished watching this, but honestly, kudos. Also, I recognize the background track. Once you find something that you like, you really latch onto it eh?
Love the precision of McLaren. It's an engineering wet dream. Ferrari may have greater aesthetic beauty, but beneath the skin McLaren's work really shines! Great piece JF! Keep it up bud
Awesome, awesome, awesome. Thanks Drive & JF. All is forgiven for the Porsche Classic debacle. Keep up the stellar work. The only gripe; not long enough. Oh well, I'll just watch the episode again. Cheers,
Wow.... Just wow.... Apart from how fascinating it is to see how they've pretty much optimized EVERY aspect of production, it's interesting to hear them talk about it. I never heard anyone say the word perfect in the video. Think about the meaning of that.
Everyone says that the McLaren factory is something made from passion. But to me it seems the result of being clinical and serious. Each to their own I guess.
Absolutely fascinating and inspiring ! Well done on gaining such access. I know the cars most of us can afford could never be produced to such exacting standards but it would be nice to see a bit of this no compromise philosophy enter into larger scales of automobile manufacturing. This sort of content is precisely why Drive is one of the more relevant video magazines on the web. Please keep up the stellar work !
Loved the sound when it started up. Beautiful. Very clinical, very precise. I guess I can see what people say when they say all this does not have passion...but I have to disagree. This seems to be passion of a completely different kind. Definitely one of my fave supercars.
Anyone buying a Mclaren should have all the confidence in the world that their getting one of the most precisely built cars in production today. Period..
It never ceases to amaze me what people will say from the "safety" of their side of a computer. I bet these same "haters" would soil their pants if they had to criticize JF to his face. Keep going JF, you'll get the hang of it.
When they walked into the production facility I got goose-bumps & my eyes filled with tears. This is automotive engineering at its pinnacle!
Wow, this is absolutely beautiful. McLaren has been my favorite car company for the longest time, I love seeing this kind of stuff.
People say that the 12C lacks soul, I disagree you can see how passionate they are about the car, the attention to detail, the way they talk about them, and not to mention that it looks beutiful.
Will James i think its a great car but I think compared to the Aventador it comes second
Leon Henry The Aventador is faster and more powerful and looks incredible. The only problem is the people who drive them
Can't argue with that.

The clean Foster + Partners architecture is a perfect match to McLaren's precise approach to R&D. Really beautiful building.
That was fascinating, did not realise 26 minutes had gone by

PS... I gotta give you guys credit. This is hands down one of the best done documentaries on a car "factory" I've seen. Very nicely done DRIVEN

Amazing commitment to quality. These McLaren MP4-12Cs are so well put together, I bet they would last for decades.

I would give damn near anything just to tour Mclaren's headquarters. They make a true work of art.
this is definitly the best show on drive, awe inspiring
Great insight, amazing facility, and so nice to hear a commentary in a non shouty over enthusiastic way, McLaren would be proud. Top notch !👍
I'm going to work here, as a painter ;)

Love these kind of videos! Awesome, quality. And that building is so beautiful!
I don't even really like cars, but from an engineering perspective this is phenomenal. wonderful to see pure design in real world application.
Amazing building, seems cleaner than even a Intel Chip factory. Attention to detail there on everything is simply amazing.
it looks like some kind of space station, incredible. im sure anyone would be impressed with a tour round a prestigeous factory but listening to those sucess figures at the beginning. wow. thanks alot JF, this was amazing!
The emotion of perfection. That is McLaren's soul.
Wow. The level of design and detail in that entire facility is insane. Working there must feel like working inside iPod.
This is beautiful!! That turn from the hospitality suite to the production facility is serene!! 8:00
Overall, I was very happy with this! I hoped for a bit more driving and actual sound clips, but it was an awesome experience to see the facility!
The passion and commitment of this people its outstanding.

Fantastic look inside Maclaren -- enjoyed every second of it, even JF's repeated use of his new catch phrase, "got it".
