I went to the practice day for this race. The Shell station in Naperville was giving away free passes to the track for practice day. When I walked into the stands I remember seeing Castroneves on a practice lap, and being shocked by just how small and tight this track was. He had to STAND on the brakes before the turn (and really it was only two turns at this track). I remember how his car just wiggled like crazy trying to stay straight as it decelerated. The cars that day looked hilariously cramped out there; they were way too fast, and way too capable, for this little track. Overall I was just totally blown away by how weird this track was. Crammed into a metro area, huge high grandstand on one side, and such a tight straight oval. Spectating was great. Really good visibility.

What Chicago Track was this?
Chicago Speedway financed by Champ car and Chip Ganassi. Build in 1999 and closed in 2002. Later land was bought by the city and demolished.
