Unlike most directors , he is improving his craft with each film by leaps and bounds!! Look at other celebrated directors like Shankar, Mani Ratnam, RGV etc. Their best work was in the first decade of their careers, where as SS Rajamouli kept on upgrading his skills as a filmmaker with each film!! He got rid of item songs nd some sep comedy tracks(which at one point of time were unavoidable for commercial reasons). U have a director who is mastering his craft with each film, u can only wonder Wats his dream project Mahabharata would do to the global audience!!
Every creative person's career follows a graph, initial flat struggle phase, following a breakthrough there will be exponential growth phase, reaches a peak, followed by decline where they go into creative blockade later become irrelevant and retire. If you see filmography of all above mentioned u will realise the same, once seasoned film makers now becoming outdated.
Yet falters and succumbs to telugu audience..when it comes to over the top illogical action scenes

@@sff6976 you can use illogical scenes upto an extent like lifting a man on shoulders and fighting .. Lifting huge shivling by a single man..But lifting a motorbike like a cycle is limit cross..and that palm tree scene in baahubali was also limit cross..I saw many foreigners laughing at that scenes.. Because when you are watching a movie with some serious emotions and when suddenly such scenes appears which feels like cringe, the overall feel of the movie is affected.. Why rajamouli escapes is because right after that illogical scenes the next scene changes to logical one and the viewers forget the last illogical one... But when the movie ends people laugh remembering the scenes

His Film EEGA is really underrated...It Deserves More than Bahubali and RRR...
As the narrator has stated , Sye is his one of the most underrated works which will hold u to watch the movie in front of TV screen

Totally agree, the day Eega 2 hits the theater, it will become an international sensation. As it has garnered so much attention during RRR’s Oscar campaign. With the right budget and a tighter screen play, Eega 2 for sure will rule the international box office.

Unpopular opinion: Eega alone still ranks higher than all of other Rajamouli's put together. That's how epic the movie. It goes right on top with Mayabazaar in the list of best Telugu movies ever made!

After baahubali 2, people thought what else can Rajamouli can make next because with baahubali 2 he already proved the whole india. But then comes RRR, which surprised even hollywood and rest of the world. RRR is very impressive, such a creative and artistic way of filmmaking. He always sets the bar high with every single movie. I'm excited about his next project.
I agree, SSR is the only director who is learning and also increasing his filmmaking standards. Sorry to say but all the other directors are far behind from him.

Yama donga is not a weak story, it’s a remake and an alternate universe version of NTR’s grandfather Yamagola. It has a couple of weak moments, but it has Jr NTR’s best delivered dialogue ever and a very tight screenplay.
Rajamouli himself produced the film with the banner named Vishwamitra creations and prabhas acted as viswamithra on banner video and coming to production obviously budget increases and compromised also pre climax almost 30 mins done in a house and biggest chartbuster Rubber gajulu song also picturised poorly ....from starting to pre climax film entertained and that climax full of melodrama makes audience little bit low..Both Rajamouli and his wife Rama always says Yamadonga is weakest of rajamouli work and only Jr NTR saves the movie!!
Honestly Rajamouli filmography can't be rated,his movies are experience..At the end, you can only remember how you experience each film at that time in theatre..
Rajamouli movies are always soo hit that one don't revisit the movie, because they had never forgot the movie, every movies has some iconic scenes in every one's memory..
Now he created level called Rajamouli where if any other new director created great action with emotion scene it's called Rajamouli level scene by fans.
He is constantly reducing mistakes he does with every movie..RRR has least mistakes till now...
Hope his finale( Mahabarat) has invisible mistakes.

The greatest thing about Rajamouli is, he sticks to basics, he said in a interview that Everything a film maker needs is 'common sense' ,He has that sheer Vision & conviction He always succeds in making us believe all his Crazy ideas on screen, SS Rajamouli is gift for audience, I wish there are clones for SSR, Can't wait for 4-5 years for his film.
Sye is the most underrated in his whole career. I wonder what kind of numbers it must've done if he had done it now.
also i want to add a small note that his debut film is the weakest because he didn't involve solo he was assisted by k raghavender rao.. who is 80's director.. also during that time rajamouli was working for Tv serials.. so the student no.1 movie also looks like a enhanced tv serial .. if feel rajamouli got freedom to direct his own film with simhadri.. it was a mass blockbuster in those days.
Ya SS Rajamouli's debut film is under directorial supervision of K Raghavendra Rao and for the songs KRR completely takeover and for the fights ss rajamouli convinced him for the free hand and finally KRR accepts !!
Whether he planned it or not I see rajamouli as a brilliant strategist when it comes to his movies line up.
1. Student No1 - Under heavy influence of super hit serial he did (Santhi nivasam) infact most of the side artists are from that serial. Yet he managed to convince family audience where parents were satisfied as hero was shown desperate to fulfill his father's dream. Farewell song is cherry on top which was mandatory song in that decade in all farewell parties in Telugu States. - Family
2. Simhadri - Literal mass masala entertainer which he targeted to land himself and NTR as ultimate mass combo. Following precise formula of 1 heroine for literal skin show and other for little performance. When he realised climax is getting weak comes Keeravani with the most outrageous mass number - Nuvvu whistle vesthe. - Mass
3. Sye - Sports drama literally targeting college students - Youth
4. Chatrapathi - Emotionally , plot wise we can say best First half particularly in genre of God Fatherish films in more resemblence to naayagan. He targeted it to practice more matured Hero elevations with BGM . Agniskalana BGM took it to next level. - Gangster
5. Vikramarkudu - Targeted mass movie with none other than Mass maharaja. Child sentiment to elevate Rathode character as Athili sathi babu is tailor made for Raviteja - Double Action
6. Yamadonga - Targeted literally to elevate NTR jr once again with complete makeover - Socio Fantasy
7. Magadheera - Starts the school of Grandeur. This is where he started creating the brand : Rajamouli movie - Reincarnation+Periodic Drama
Till now he's brushing on his presentation skills and with Magadheera he has exhausted the highest budget till that date in Telugu. Pokiri was highest grosser at that time with 40Cr and he made magadheera with 42 Cr on a second film hero. Now he started as a true story teller one sign is no more item songs (except Bahubali song which by the way is most creatively choreographed and helps run of the stories unlike item songs till Magadheera)
8. Maryada Ramanna - Story in an imaginative premise and purely sold on his story telling prowess than any star cast . - Comedy Action
9. Eega - Sheer story telling, take a unimaginable point and convince audience - Reincarnation Love story
Here started his thought of Indian Market. Eega he released in all South Indian languages and Hindi.
10. Bahubali 1 & 2 - Whatever he learnt from last 9 movies put together - An epic grand Indian Cinema
11. RRR - Story and Screen play are the actual heroes while Stars are there to back the numbers he's investing. Here he met the mark of Story teller of high standard not targeting any specific group or section of audience but will tell the story as he meant and people will walk in to experience the phenomena. - World level recognised sincere story teller.

Magadheera and Eega are exceptionally well made films for me.
Eega being slightly more important, just become sheer theatrical experience I had while watching it as a kid.
There's a line in song "By hook or crook ninnu champi marosari chasta, okka sari chachinaka inko chaavu lekka?"
Meaning does it matter if I die again after facing death, if that is what it takes to kill you. It's a perfect revenge drama 💜

I stopped myself by wanting to guess the top films and expected EEGA to be in atleast Top 5,,,,,hats off for putting it in No 1 position,,,,,
Am not surprised though,,,,, it's a dream of SSR feeded into Sudeep's brain who acts his skin out to give a razor edged performance to make it Powerful.

@@Srikanthh108 there's no doubt in SSR's vision but they could have added Kiccha sudeep's brilliancy in acting which was insane and it is also Rajamouli's choice of actors for the character(s) which is also included in the director's vision
I loved Sudeep's acting. As a Telugu audience, when we heard Sudeep is the villain for Eega instead of any number of existing telugu heros, we thought - what's special about him? (We of course weren't familiar with his work till then). After watching that fantastic acting skill and great dialogue delivery in Telugu, we are fans of him. He got so much love in telugu that Rajamouli had to ask him for a cameo in Bahubali.

Instead of using term 'masala film' u could have used 'commercial cinema'. And it is evolution of a director especially simhadri whole industry looked at him he struggled to get that film on sets, after that no looking back. Just watch that Kerala killing with that crazy bgm man goosebumps stuff commercial cinema at peak, chatrapati title track elevation, magadheera horse riding, eega climax most convincing killing violin bgm makes emotional. Then bb series and RRR peaks
May be my perception, but saying masala film repeatedly is disrespectful. Commercial could have been used.
It feels wrong when we see top movies being placed last, but we are forgetting one thing- these are Rajamouli movies, every movie is a gem 😅 so we don’t feel right even if Rajamouli himself gives movie rankings.

the list would have been placed in much better order if it was made by a Telugu person who knows Rajamouli from his 1st movie , now someone looking them back might look not so great, but in that time being they were GEMS, for example me being a Telugu person i will place SYE in number 2, when it was released i was a high school student, back then i can remember the way people were awestruck with each a every moment , if its made now it would have made whole world go crazy .

This ranking merely seems to be coming from an outsider. I have been a fan of him from his first film and literally saw his growth YOY for the past 20 yrs, similar to the majority of telugites. Our views are definitely different from your list. Understandable, world started knowing about him only from Baahubali. As an outsider who just watched all his movies after Baahubali, it will be different.
For example, Yamadonga seems your 2nd weakest film, but at that time back in 2007, this was the first film to use such a CG work and we always had craze for Yama movies in 90's. It's that nostalgia we got and seeing Mohan babu n NTR in yama get ups, waz just enough. I m sure u must not have gotten any kick from the dialogue war between them, its different for us.

Chatrapathi is the case of the first half being soo good that the second half feels dull no matter what. From the setup of the refugees signing to become slaves to a smuggling mafia to the final interval payoff, it's like a complete movie by itself and the second half is just an attempt to fill out other subplots.
You know that all these films are loved by Telugu audience to the fullest. He didn't have a single disaster yet
No mention about Kichcha Sudeep's acting in eega? Come on man...Just imagining the fly and acting is a difficult task which he eased on screen.

This was the movie that made me fall in love with prabash and tollywood.
I agree that it is uneven but I think it is a genius thought to put fireworks in first half and mother emotion in second half. Had it been a complete high voltage fi it would have lost family audience
Rajamouli is the best marketer that i know !! He makes films that are on par with the audience’s current market expectations!! Do analyse with this and you’ll get to know much about his stories and the way he tell the stories, not like some scenes and elevations. Even at end it’s the story , the way of storytelling at the right time is needed and he’s the master at it. It’s more of like making audiences to think in his way!!
I'm no fan of ntr. But Yamadonga is my favorite film. The screenplay was terrific

A fairly good essay on his filmography. Each of his movies left an indelible mark on TFI. For me, the weakest entry is Yamadonga. SSR tried to pull a 1977 Yamagola but ended up with something else, starting with the atrocious haircut of Ntr. But his ability to arouse awe as well as disgust for the characters is unparalleled. My fav scene being the bamboo belting of railway station rogues in vikramarkudu 🤣. Minimal dialogue/bgm, and aptly played by everyone. I went to a military school and that's how power/authority speaks. Most of his movies were in different ways gambles. I hope he pushes himself further. There's lot more in him.

I'd probably rank RRR above bb2 and sye above magadheera ever so slightly. Other than that almost the same. Again leaving aside Student no.1, we're ranking some of the best films ever made in Indian cinema. So it's not easy to rank and it's more of a preference.

Undoubtedly Eega, RRR and Magadheera are the best works of Rajamouli and my question is how will u come to the conclusion that a movie is a masterpiece ? The answer is simple, if the movie is celebrated and discussed about it consistently over the decades!
Eega and Magadheera have already fallen under that category and I'm pretty sure that RRR will also be in that category in the coming future.
But KGF is the best Indian commercial movie🔥 ever made in Indian cinema. The number of adrenaline rushes you experience in that movie is unmatchable. The editing of the movie, the screenplay, the background music, the cinematography-everything-is so flawless! The way Rocky is addicted to his goal is very very inspiring!
