Great comprehensive review. When I was a young tap dancer there was tap mats and they had a nice bright sound. Hard wood is essential . Happy Tapping to you.
Thanks for the review! I’m looking to get the Fasfoot board. I’m an Irish musician and Sean Nós Irish dancer. I hope to travel more with my instruments, and the Fasfoot board will fit within the dimensions of my double-fiddle case. I could wear or carry both at the same time (instead of my wide plywood board)! My friend has a Fasfoot board, and I loved it! 😊
Thanks so much for these great reviews. Def looking for an apt/condo-friendly board to do hoofing/clogging/Irish, English, French Canadian Stepdancing in a way that doesn't bother my neighbors. Will probably go with the FasFoot as per your review. This video is such a help to those living in a communal space! And I knew there had to be a solution with all of the tappers living in NYC apartments. So happy I found you/this.
Thank you for the review on both boards! I'm on a 2nd floor apartment (normally my preference, but in this instance I would prefer to be on the 1st floor;) and in the meantime, per another video posted online, I am using a couple of workout mats next to each other with an Ikea KOLON Floor protector layered over the mats. I want to expand the mat to allow me to have more space to practice different things. I may consider one of these boards!
Wow! Great reviews, especially enjoyed the speedy tap at 4minutes 30ish and later on in the beautiful garden with your beautiful self central to the scene🙂
Hi Shelby, my name is Tim Zdybek and I met you at Motor City tap fest in 2019 and I m a big fan! Thank you for all your videos and all your information/ reviews. I'm currently quarantined and look forward to watching your videos while I'm home! Thank you 😊 Tim
Hi Shelby. I have a comment regarding the FasFoot, which I have. Mine has gotten extremely dirty from the metal tap debris, so when you go to carry it, when folded, the surface of the tap board faces the outside, and all that dirt rubs against your clothes as you carry it. Cleaning it doesn't really help as it gets dirty so quickly. Buyer beware. :)
Have you tried using a Mr. Clean Magic Eraser? That is what O'Mara recommends you use and it really works great for that one. Haven't tried it on a Fasfoot yet.
@@shelbykaufman Yes. I actually spoke to Eric, from the company because I think the finsh on my board was not cured enough before it shipped to me so he refunded me. It was really bad and nothing would clean up the dirt. I like your review and agree about the handle placement for short people!
@@KCTap wow! So glad you ended up getting a refund! I haven't tapped nearly as much on my Fasfoot as my O'Mara but so far I haven't had that problem too badly. My O'Mara gets SO dirty but the magic erasers really do the trick!
Hi Shelby, I'm a Tap teacher in LA and have followed you for a couple of years now. Your review of the Fastap and the Omara was posted today, the DAY AFTER I purchased the Portable Tap Floor, by Terrence Taps. My first choice would have been the Fastap, but I couldn't find a way to order it online. Could you post tips on that, and, when you can, give your comparative opinion on the Terrence Taps product? Thanks! Love your stuff!!!
Thanks for the review! currently looking into investing and this helped. Question- Does the fasfoot one also feel good on the joints? I am also in NYC/ Philadelphia cities, so have to be careful of neighbors, but don't want to kill my knees!
I think it really depends on where you are dancing. I wouldn’t recommend dancing on a fasfoot over cement, ya know? Whereas a O’Mara would be fine anywhere. It really is a toss up for a small apartment.
I would imagine so. It’s heavy. They do have over the shoulder bags for sale with the travel boards though. If I didn’t show it in this video, I do in the Instagram live video.
I appreciate your thorough explanation with all the context and these demonstrations so much. It’s super helpful!
Our seniors tap group has been using floor samples
from a local flooring store.

Hopefully this coming year we can get back to normal and enjoy a real in person Tap fest in Detroit! And this world can get healthy again!
Love you Shelby. Especially your taps
Great info, thanks Shelby!
Thanks, Shelby! I sent a Fasfoot board to Katherine hoping it will be apartment friendly.
I definitely think that's a good choice for New York!
The review I needed
I have been wondering for months now what portable tap dance floor should I buy!
I have an Omara also. It is definitely loud and I wear ear plugs too.

I actually haven’t tried that one so you will have to let me know how you feel about it once you’ve danced on it a bit!
I just bought my first ever tap board and it’s the O’Mara hopefully I made the right choice.🤞🏽
I think you’ll love it! You just have to break it in so it isn’t so slippery.

Looks like the fasfoot might be able to fit inside a decent sized backpack.. is this true?
Ummm I got it to fit in a laundry bag to check it on a plane? A backpack... I’m not sure.
What size is board in video where you have yellow blouse and jeans? Thanks
That is the extra large O'Mara travel board. I believe its 3 x 3?
Does each board have a different sound ?
O’Mara definitely louder and probably a bit of a better sound in my opinion.
@@shelbykaufman oh ok, i can hear it in your tutorials sometimes.
Where in Michigan are you?? Do you teach???
I’m from Michigan but live in NY. I teach there all the time though all around metro Detroit and was actually there a few hours ago.
I'm guessing the O'Mara is too large and probably too heavy to fit in a large backpack setup?
