Frederic Chopin - Prelude Op 28 No 15 'Raindrop'

  • This is Prelude Op. 28 No. 15 in D flat major 'Raindrop' from Frederic Chopin. I performed this after 2,5 years of learning to play the piano.
This is the longest prelude from Opus 28, and at the same time probably one of the most famous ones. It was named Raindrop because of the constant A flat eighth notes pitter-pattering in the bass, which may remind a light rain shower.
One of my favorites Chopin's pieces.

nice sound for an electric piano as well.

I really enjoyed your version of this, I, too, am trying to learn this....One of my favorite pieces. I've listened to probably 20 versions of this at least a hundred times. I must say, your's is inspiring. While listening, one imagines a spring rain with a slow constant drip with the storm coming and going.....which is why I like the slower playing of this. I only have a year and a half to go to catch up!

At the age of 28, 38 years ago, I had a vinyl LP including this played by LIvia Rev.
That inspired me to buy a cheap old piano and tried to learn to play piano from scratch.
I started with this 1st and played it to a piano teacher to start proper lessons. I re-learnt it with the teacher after a year and she said the touch was very good. I think this version is great. Now I am struggling to re-learn this after 25 years with no piano, but my old brain is making slower progress than I did 1st time.

Very accomplished. I reckon you could go a little more dramatic in the middle section but too many people overdo it, and as it's a digital piano you have excellent dynamic control. Also you've chosen the right tempo - Valentina Igoshina's version tries to extract drama from every bar. Your version is very very nice indeed.

This prelude is about Grade 7 standard. I would have said that from complete beginner to Grade 7 would take at least 5 years, if not more. Never rush into playing a piece, learn it when you are ready to do so and you can do a beautiful piece like this justice. Good luck! :)

if you're talking about the part where theres the repeating G# note in the bass clef, u'll notice in the score theres an "m.d." written above it telling you to play it with your right hand!! so, play the G# note with the thumb of your right hand.. should take care of that part!! :) i hope im referring to the same part tho :S

I love this piece andave learned all of it except the section from measure 72 to 75! Theres this one chord that goes from the g sharp with a c sharp an e and an A sharp in the right hand and I can't reach it my hands are just barely too small! Any advice!? I Can easily reach an octave and a second with my hands but can't play that chord and it's stopping me from learning the whole piece.

I am considering taking piano lessons. I have 0 clue how to play, but I am musically and rhythmically inclined with other instruments. I know Chopin is technically challenging. How long do you think it would take a beginner to be able to play this properly? Probably a stupid question from someone who doesn't play. But hey... I could have asked this on a Rachmaninoff video. haha

They may have assumed I was implying something about the skill of the player or suggesting he does not play it himself. Just a misunderstanding. Of course I'm not suggesting that - rather just taking a guess at the method used to record his playing with the highest quality.

unfortunately I have no such comparison; in this regard I would advice you to visit the piano shop and seek for an advice there. Or, try all these instruments by yourself and see which one you prefer the most. For myself the CLP-230 is quite close (in the terms of the 'touch') to real grand piano - keys are quite heavy, the dynamics is pretty OK. Hope this helps. Cheers.

Very interesting, yet nice interpretation. I loose a lot of the natural resonance from the artificial keyboard. The B Section is very well done, the right hand could be a little softer - or the repeated notes start to get very offensive. I would take a little liberty too in the post B section; there are a lot of suspensions and resolutions that could be open to freedom of expression - really bring them in out.

  • @arturpianocorner

If the gift is that the elephant have not yet put his feet on my hear, then I would consider myself gifted :) Seriously - I started to practice and the effects came themselves with a time. If you are capable to find some time for practice, and have enough persistent to wait 2-3 years for first effects - I am sure you will learn to play piano.
