I have watched maybe ten of these reaction videos to Bittersweet Symphony and I find it disappointing that younger people are having a hard time understanding this masterpiece. Usually they pay more attention to the video, ignoring its incredible music structure and its powerful lyrics, thinking they are watching some rude guy pushing people out of his way for fun. But the whole video is a symbolism. He's just a man walking a straight line, refusing to change his path. He doesn't want to bump on anybody, he's just choosing to stay steady on his course despite all the obstacles he encounters in life. Pay closer attention to the lyrics and you might understand it better.

The video is definitely awesome but also a bit distracting, I get the symbolism but still found it funny. It's hard to ignore the visuals.

I have only just found out about the copyright issue and was shocked that Richard Ashcroft only made £1000 from his biggest hit.
Recently the Rolling Stones returned full rights and credits, and also most generously returned Five Million pounds in royalties.
You really need to review the Verve’s , The Drugs don’t work, It will definitely make you cry, it’s such a sad song.

Backing track is a symphonic version of The Rolling Stones' The Last Time recorded in 1965 by the Andrew Oldham ...was a bit of a legal battle over the rights, I think 2019 Mick Jagger and Keith Richards had reverted the rights to the song back to the Verve frontman, allowing him to be credited as the sole author of the song :)

Granz was starting up a new record label and offered Bregman a chance to work for him. That label turned out to be Verve, one of the most famous jazz labels. Bregman became the Au0026R head, but is best known by jazz fans for his arranging and conducting activities on a stack of sides by great singers such as Ella Fitzgeraldand Anita O'Day. He also made what might arguably be one of Bing Crosby's best records, Bing Sings Whilst Bregman Swings. Despite her generously sweet nature, Fitzgerald was apparently still unable to hide her initial reaction to the greenhorn producer Granz had hired for her. Her attitude was summarized best by the Italian composer, percussionist, and conductor Andrea Centazzo's reaction to an extra, uninvited dinner guest showing up: "Who the hell is this guy?"

This came from the album 'Urban Hymes' which is an absolute classic. It's the 18th best selling album in the UK charts and features in several 'best album' polls. There isn't a bad song on it. The other singles were 'The Drugs Don't Work' and 'Lucky Man'.
The video is iconic and has been copied/spoofed several times. Probably the best known is Fat Les's 'Vindaloo' featuring Keith Allen (Lily Allen's dad) which was an unofficial England football song for the World Cup.
    ua-cam.com/video/va6nPu-1auE/v-deo.html
The director also did a similar video for Massive Attack's 'Unfinished Symphony'. There is also an alternative version of the video where he gets beaten up.

The underlying melody of this song was written by Mick Jagger and Keith Richards from the 'Rolling Stones'. The 'Verve' didn't get legal binding permission to use the melody and as a result Jagger and Richards got the majority of money from this song. Jagger and Richards don't allow their music to be sampled by other artists but will license their songs for other commercial reasons. Like movie and tv commercials, ect.

He is a genius. He wrote this, and the album, while depressed.
You may have heard the strings riff before. The Rolling Stones sued him. for copyright breaches. I never understood the video, until recently, He is walking the road of life. At the start, he nearly gets knocked over by a car, representing not being born at all. Upon that road, often people get in your way and stop
you from walking. You may knock people down, or be knocked down. The road of life has obstacles and not a straight clear path, and a uncertain future.

Here's some interesting background on this song's history. Ashcroft and the Verve band had this song stolen from them for decades by the manager/lawyer of The Rolling Stones, who claimed this song, Bitter Sweet Symphony, stole a part of their song called "Brown Sugar", which when you hear the 2 parts side by side sounds like a bogus claim. But the strange part is the Rolling Stones song, Brown Sugar, had stolen part of their song from an earlier song but has never paid reparations to those original authors. Which when you listen to those two songs in comparison, sounds far more plausible that copyright theft happened.
So that lawyer made tens of millions off this Verve song up until recently when a judge finally over turned that previous decision. But they lost out on tens of millions from an aggressive over zealous deceitful lawyer.

The "Symphony Sample" from Rolling Stones "Last Time" who took all royalties from the band, ironic as this was the first song Jagger and Richards had written and had made their early career from doing covers of "rhythm and blues" tracks by black artists. Sorted $$$$ now, but not cool for Richard Ashcroft and the Verve are a class act.

That was their former manager, Allen Klein, who owned the publishing on their songs pre-1970. After Klein's death, his son and the Stones manager agreed to reassign the rights to Ashcroft.
Nor is "The Last Time" the first song written by Jagger/Richards. It was the first to be released as a UK single written by them. Both of their 1964 albums (the year before "The Last Time") had songs written by Jagger/Richards, with "Tell Me (I'm Coming Back)" released as a single outside of the UK a year before "The Last Time" was written.

@@markamos1911 I stand corrected, I remember them saying they had to be locked in a room to force themselves to get some new material. Give yourself a gold Star 🌟. LOL

Great reaction !!! I have a proposal for myself - will you make a film about the talented young singer Viki Gabor? She has an amazing voice !!! She can sing a lot of riffs and runs as well as whistle like her idol Ariana Grande :) I would be very interested in your movie about her. Viki has great potential to become a star all over the world. She is only 13 years old and is already ahead of many experienced singer.
You just need to copy .Viki Gabor - Moja i Twoja Nadzieja (Hey) | #PASJA2021
