Oh yes, the series with the cliffhangers that go nowhere, forgotten about, or brushed over by the next movie.
I was so damn pumped at the end of the first movie... then like you said, it went no where. This series really did have so much promise, but missed the mark for the reason you said mostly.

Honestly, that they cut out the whole main battle for the White House and that they had all the other characters to die and did not really say what happened to me extremely disappointed and upset that I couldn't even enjoy the rest of the movie :(

As the previous episode of the Battle of the White House ended, I was looking forward to the sequel where I hoped that the last episode would continue with the battle and nothing ....

In the Aderson novel it says that Wesker ultimately betrays the forces gathered at the White House, destroying it and killing everyone there except Alice and himself. When Alice awakens, the White House is in ruins surrounded by the ruins of Washington, DC.
You can read it in the internet. It's like an online book. Director Aderson wrote it. It explains there all the things happened in the resident evil movie that they didn't show in the movie from the beginning, just like what happened to Angie the young girl in resident evil 2: Apocalypse and other movies. Etc etc

Is resident evil a horror game in the first place. Zombies are more action genre cuz they are so overdone it isn't scary anymore.
I get really mild "Hellgate London" vibes from this film. Humanity on the brink of extinction, small pockets of survivors left banding together. Just instead of Demons, its infected.
hmmm it's been many years since I played this game and still on an old wooden PC. Until I got the urge to play the game all over again.

Hellgate London was a really amazing concept. The books were really interesting and the cinematics for the game were awesome.

Maybe the Red Queen could tell her where it is. She's a supercomputer. I haven't seen the movie, but since these recaps don't usually tell every single detail, maybe the location was revealed in the movie & if she was able to get there in time, she could disperse the cure near there, therefore, eliminating the immediate threat at that place, at least. Then the wind could carry it all over to other places.
Not to mention all the cure did was kill of the Tvirus hence other zombified creatures or strain still is technically alive, this last movie was a big plothole in itself honestly the world was already fcked so umbrella already won regardless no more people aside from those in the hibernation chamber and who knows maybe there are more of those

When the first RE movie released, I was so pissed off that I actually paid to watch it in a theater, to only an hour in, realize that it all was basically a soft-core exploitation slasher/horror starring the director's barely clothed wife. I was expecting Chris Redfield and Leon... what I got was a skinny chick who looked like she never stepped out in the sun a day in her life, pretending to be an OP action-star easily brutalizing videogame enemies... mostly naked thru much of it.
Yes, the laser hallway thing was kind of rad for its time - so much so, they copied it in Resident Evil 4 and Resident Evil: Umbrella Chronicles (frame-by-frame in that one). But I never liked any of these films, and God knows I gave them all a chance. If I had to name one of them as the best, it would be the second one.... but they are all REALLY disrespectful to the source material.
Ironically, I am also a life-long fan of 'so bad they are good' horror films. So, in an alternate universe I would have LOVED these films, as they have everything I tend to like in a cheesy bad film. Unfortunately, I cannot separate that love of truly awful films, from my hardcore Resident Evil fandom. I REALLY wish I could though, as I know I've watched every one of these films' multiple times... always trying to appreciate them... but ALWAYS just being more offended than entertained.
Yes, Milla Jovovich turned out to be an actually pretty decent action star in the following years... and yes, the set-pieces got way better... the budgets ballooned... they added a lot of content from the games to appease people like me.... but the films still sucked. If anything, they got worse as their budgets and scopes become more and more absurd.
I am still convinced to this day; that the whole series was a giant expensive vanity project for the director, to be able to watch his wife blow stuff up with big guns. Not unlike what the Fast & Furious films have become for Vin Diesel. lol. 👍

You know in the video game it takes falling into a volcano and a rocket launcher to kill the series main bad guy Wesker, NO NO NO we have a MUCH better death scene for this movie franchise main bad guy. What? We close a door on him. Its a HUUUUGE door? No a slightly larger than regular sized door. But does it have HUGE spikes with poison? No just metal.
Well it just so happend in this movie wesker wasn't the big bad boss hence why he's death seemed pathetic and anticlimactic
