Mr. Michael... Rangoon was not a majority Hindus and Indian town! And as you said the British " a few hundred thousand Indians as an administrative and law enforcement buffer against a few million natives" became millions and now thanks to the British we have the Rohingya problem.. thank you Britishers and their "Divide & Rule or was it Conquer & Rule or was it both!!!!???!!!???
I could see why some myanmar people hate indians. You couldn't even see burmese people in most of these old videos. The british the indians for labour.
Damn Brits brought Indians and Bengalis to East Asian Rangoon (Yangon). So in effect, they forcibly race mixed the local people against their will. It's interesting when you go to Myanmar the number of Indians (though by the sounds of it, there are a lot fewer than there used to be in places like Yangon) who look like they just stepped off the plane from southern India, but cross the border to Thailand and there are hardly any (other than a few tourists in Pattaya and Bangkok). Myanmar is like the transition country between India and East Asia, with it's people and culture a mixture of the two, but tending more towards East Asia. Whereas Thailand is truly East Asian because there are hardly any Indians. In fact, less than 0.0005% of Thailand's population is of Indian origin, but it's about 5-10% in Myanmar.
@@eddie30991 Dumbass I have read many books and live in the region. YOU ARE the extraordinarily misformed idiot here. If it wasn't for the fucking Brits, there would be no Indians in present day Myanmar, that's a fucking fact.
There were Indians, Muslims, Portuguese, Chinese and others in Burma before the British arrived. Yes, a lot of Indians were brought in to built the railways, roads and ports but after independence most were kicked out. The Indians living in Myanmar now are quite committed to the country.
