    A lot of people seem curious about how to pronounce Szmal. Several Polish people have mentioned to me that sz sounds like sh in english, similar to how you would say Schmincke. If you're familiar with sports you may have also heard this name before, as there is a famous Polish handball player named Slawomir Szmal. You can hear his name pronounced in the native language here ua-cam.com/video/hQBX2mvKQr8/v-deo.html If you're from Poland and can confirm or deny this, I'd love to hear from you :)

      Yeah, that's right! Thanks for pinning this comment ❤ If someone's interested: name Przybysz in color "Przybysz's Grey" is pretty similiar, phonetically it'd be [Pshybysh] I think, but I'm not sure how I should explain how to pronounce "y" in this case.

      Here! ua-cam.com/video/ClKcppRJYiw/v-deo.html It's polish singer, Natalia Przybysz; she's introducing herself in the first sentence :D

      Yeah, sz = sh in English.
      You can just open google translate and translate it from Polish. And on the right you have speaker icon, there you will hear polish pronounciation ☺️
      it mean something like "bucks", money

    Interesting. I got the other 12 colour set, around December, decanted them into a tim box, and added a few more colours bought as singles, basically trying to get the equivalent of both sets without spending on overlaps. I am in the uk and it has been cool here but we have very drying central heating in the room where I use this box, they seem to have hardened off a fair bit since they were first unwrapped and were sooo sticky. The rewet beautifull. I have added some opaque and granulating colours that are fairly pastel toned. White Nights does a set of pastels but I thought I would get the Szmal ones. I am very pleased with them all. They rewet well, I appreciate the full pans and think they will be a favourite as I get to know them. I have yet to really give them a workout on my favourite papers, but I think they will do well. They seem to have quite a different nature to the White Nights paints which seem to be their natural competitor. I particularly found I could mix an absolutely gorgeous range of greens from the blues and yellows, in a way the convenience greens are a bit superfluous, but do what you expect. If Roman Szmal, who seems to be a good colourman , continues to improve his product I could see this range becoming one of the go to brands.

    It took me so long to get this set - I ordered it from Jacksons around December and only received it in late Feb due to some communication errors on both parties (had to FB, email and eventually gave in to the cost of long distance calling to fix it). I'm so happy for it - the colours are so bright and vibrant that it was worth all the trouble!! They do not feel handmade at all but a lot of the colours have amazingly unique characteristics like handmade watercolours.

      I'm so glad you were able to get it worked out, I definitely don't regret my Roman Szmal purchases. I keep debating how best to make a video about all the colors I got. I'm thinking about breaking down demo paintings by color... Like "My favorite Roman Szmal Purples" because otherwise it's a little overwhelming to cover them all in one video. Then I could focus on a series of monochromatic paintings showcasing particular colors that they do so well. I hear you on the unique characteristics, definitely some unique gems and beautiful granulation in their catalog. Thanks for all your lovely comments Faye :D

    Thank you for talking again about the Prussian Blue, its quite strange how it acts compared to other colours I love the skin tones you did here, I certainly want to try a honey based watercolour at some point!

    I love that she matches the other Roman Szmal review! I definitely agree with you re: categorising a color as fugitive if it changes, even if it changes back later.
    I do love a set with a lot of mixing potential, but I personally would prefer fewer yellows. I don't mind convenience colours, but can't help but feel that the Hooker's green is so easy to mix from the other colours in the set that it might've been more useful to have another colour there. Not sure what I'd prefer there, though, and I'm sure every person will have their own preference.

    these paints have up to 140 colors and everyone can find something interesting for themselves. Aqiarius have many interesting and amazing colors, granulating and disintegrating into colored pigment particles: 334 Mineral violet, 336 Shadow violet, 344 Ocean blue, 340 Cobalt turquoise, 346 Aquarius green, 401 Przybysz's grey, 247 Aquarius black

    I definitely feel like White Nights and Roman Szmall are very similar. I bought the 36 set from White Nights and they are my favorite so far. But the Roman Szmall are one that I’m buying to customize my own pallete because of the unique colors they have

    I really appreciated your comparison at the end to other honey content watercolor. I have a big set of white nights, a good assortment of m.graham and of sennelier....Due to the fact that at my age i will never use all of the watercolor paint i have. (Thank goodness i have a great grand daughter that is really interested in becoming an artist.) I think i will pass for now...thanks again.

      Over time I've come to appreciate collecting specific colors/pigments instead of just whole collections by brands. It's good to start getting picky once you have enough other paints :)

      Exactly and thats where i have been at...but then somebody shows mee a paint on you tube and i just have to have....that is why i so appreciate the comparisons with others that i have. Now to find an azo yellow that i like as much as m.grahams for my travel....even though i dont go far anymore, palette.

    Wow! They're really pretty but I agree with you about the green. They could have left that out. You reviewed Paul Rubens watercolor too. Which one is considered professional grade?

    • @KimberlyCrick
      @KimberlyCrick  4 роки тому +7

      I noticed Paul Rubens is doing a poor job making it clear that their new "Caroline" tube set and the Pretty Excellent pan set are their student grade versions, otherwise most of their paints are pro grade. These Roman Szmal paints are pro grade too, but are honey based making them more comparable to other honey based paints like white nights, m graham and sennelier in how they move on paper and how they feel in the pan (a bit sticky and needing to be mixed with water more first). Paul Rubens uses just gum arabic in the tubes, and add ox gall to pans to encourage flow. Daniel Smith only has gum arabic in with their pigment, but a bigger variety of pigments than Paul Rubens. Roman Szmal also offers a lot of pigments you can't find in most other brands, so in that way they seem better. I'm going to have to start doing comparisons between the same colors between brands to find out which pro grade paint truly gives you the best pigment loads. Totally too much information I know lol, I start typing about paints and can't stop :D

    How has your experience been ordering from Jackson's? I've been tempted a few times, I watch a lot of UK painters who rave about some of the papers there, and they have other unique items as well. I've only ordered from overseas a couple of times though and it was not a good experience.

    • @KimberlyCrick
      @KimberlyCrick  3 роки тому +3

      Really good, but I make sure I pick DHL for faster delivery because the cheaper USPS option for me was taking about a month to ship. The last few times I ordered from Jacksons I got my stuff in perfect condition in under a week. I'm sure this might vary depending on where you live and what shipping services are available.

    Beautiful work as always! Thank you for yet another highly informational review, especially that bit about Prussian Blue. I remember seeing a note, about it fading in the light and recovering in the dark, on Winsor & Newton's Cotman Water Colours: i.pinimg.com/originals/a3/f3/cc/a3f3ccbf67e07d33100dfe458a84cc34.jpg

    Are they vibrant like mungyo?

    • @KimberlyCrick
      @KimberlyCrick  3 роки тому +2

      Roman Szmal paints are very saturated, a high pigment load. I don't own Mungyo, but these are professional grade lightfast pigments and not fugitive dyes so if Mungyo has any fluorescent/neon colors they won't be vibrant like those.
