I'm seeing this again for the first time in 66 years and in color. It was probably my first encounter with opera; I was nearly 8 years old and watching this scene with my family on our first little black and white television. I didn't remember the music but I remember the stabbing and the ritual with the candles. Twelve years later I would see my first TOSCA at the Met with Tebaldi, Corelli. Thanks for posting.

Callas and George London together is something very precious; but conducted by the mythical Dimitri Mitropoulos is the ultimate present ! I know your country where I stayed about thirty years ago. I was in Lugoj and visited Timisoara, Bucarest, Cluj... Friendly yours. 🙋

The dramatic talent of Callas is as fantastic as her vocal skill. I am glad to know you visited Romania. Where are you from ? At this time, I was fascinated by the voice with a big extension, not specifically in the sphere of opera, and hearing Callas was a such a choc ! My first important purchase with my first salary was the integral studio recordings in 33 T vinyl records.

От лица Марии, от её мимики и жестов просто невозможно оторваться. Благодарю авторов этого фильма и автора канала за эту музыкальную драгоценность!
Big Callas fan here. Must say, also a big London fan - especially the voice and diction. Am very familiar with the Gobbi version which is admittedly better scenically - probably because it was live onstage. Here they were probably warned not to exaggerate as the camera would pick it up. The cuts are minor and well done, in my opinion. London's voice makes the perfect Scarpia in my view. But he's so polite and defferential here that one almost feels sorry for him.😀 I just wonder why they bothered to insert the Italian subtitles; the diction of both singers sounded as clear as a bell.
Maria Callas' performance of the 2nd act of Tosca was well documented and filmed, like New York, Paris and London. But somehow, its kind of sad and wished her Norma was also filmed and her other Operas :(
