Interesting subject! I don’t understand why it’s such a taboo to talk about money in skateboarding. You are the first dudes that I hear actually talk numbers. Love it guys keep it up.

As a skater that has a huge interest in finance and investments I love this podcast. I love that fact that skaters are realizing that they can make money in other fields and still do what they love. I invest in real estate and still can film video parts with the homies. Another friend of mine is planning on opening a coffee shop and still skates a ton. I hope young skaters can realize that you don’t need to make money as a skater to still have a joyful career and skate 5+ days a week.

I am a little surprised that Revive was not openly discussed as a company selling boards and making money other than through the traditional methods. I understand that they don't carry the respect through the industry and their skill level is not even that as most AMs, but to be objective, they should have been discussed more than a "Pee-Wee Herman" reference. Revive is able to attract thousands upon thousands of subscribers while professional skateboarders with a UA-cam channel struggle to reach 100k, even with skating content that is undeniably better (Chris Chann being the exception).

I haven't skated in more than a decade (unless you count still trying to get all stat points & decks on Tony Hawk Pro Skater 3), BUT I love this content. I think there are a commonalities in a lot of industries, and I'm always interested in learning about some behind-the-scenes on how people are able to monetize their passion when it isn't mainstream. I really enjoyed this video, thanks for sharing.

I found heaps of similarities between this and the design industry, it used to be a real simple formula for a design studio, but it's getting much harder these days in the same way as skating...there's more opportunity, but it's not how it used to be

@@HowToSkate It's interesting because in theory we should see a more even distribution of who is able to make a living with their passion since anyone with a phone can build an audience. Yet, they mention in the video how there are _fewer_ skaters making a substantial living (even if those skaters are potentially making more now).

@@mead totally. I think more people make money in the skate industry now, but through so many more avenues than before. More through skate based products/brands/businesses rather than just a select group of pro's making money from 5 big companies for just skateboarding.

@@HowToSkate I wonder if it is better to have less people making sustainable livings on skating, or way more people making basically a decent "side income" on skating. I'm not sure that is exactly the case, but that's what it seems like.
Granted, part of the reason more skaters aren't making sustainable livings might be more due to the more macro-level trends with skating than the new marketing trends. Less total money to go around perhaps. I know back in the early-mid 2000s, I bought a skateboard, several Tony Hawk games, fingerboards, etc. It's been years since I've spent a penny on anything in the skate industry.
