  • In this video I test two tungsten rings to see how well they hold up. I test test the rumor that if your ring falls off the table it will shatter. Will the rings shatter if they hit concrete? watch the video to see what happens.

The ring shattering is exactly what should happen. Hard materials do not bend like gold or tin will. They shatter like sapphire or diamond.
That's a very important feature to understand when trying to remove one in an emergency. You'll never be able to cut a tungsten ring off your finger, but you can break it by using vice grip pliers or by hitting it with a hammer while your hand is on a hard surface like concrete.

Yes, but these were cheap and did have other issues such as getting scratched and dinged up from very little wear and tear.

About 10 years ago I brought a $50 Tungsten ring which was on clearance down from $199. It doesn't scratch of dropped it thousands of times and when I'm working it hangs out with my keys on a steel carabiner. I swear by them but I guess it'll depend on how much you're willing to spend.

@@NightStalker2X I recently brought a Sapphire Tungsten ring, only because it was the first time I had heard of them. After a little bit of research ( Google ) I found that it's Sapphire crystal and Tungsten powder mixed-up together. Apparently it is indestructible we'll see.

@@tyicbranch2734I think that’s because a lot of jewellers are against tungsten rings because it’s cheaper and they don’t make a lot of money from it compared to to a gold or platinum rings. Hard to find honest reviews. But they do exist. It depends on how much tungsten is used in the ring because from what I learn, tungsten carbide is really durable and can survive from drops. It’s the cheaper ones that gets shattered easily.
I see a lot of tungsten rings especially the modern ones survives much better than the old tungsten rings they made years ago. But I’m not an expert so, this is what I know so far

Try a King Will brand tungsten ring. They are around $20ish. I have had one for almost 2 years now and it still looks brand new.

Also real tungsten rings are heavy.

Make sure that whatever tungsten carbide ring you get is at least 85% tungsten carbide and 15% nickel (not cobalt)
Good TC85 rings are several hundred dollars, and they won’t shatter under those conditions
Maybe if you hit it as hard as you can with a hammer

I owned a $200 Tungsten ring from Triton.. I shattered it by smacking the top of a wood table. I never touched a Tungaten ring again. I went with cobalt chrome. It’s slightly less scratch resistant, but won’t chip or break.

Your best bet may be to go to a jeweler and ask. The ones I got were cheap and from online. I don’t think they were real tungsten or had much tungsten in them. But you will probably pay a decent price for a real one. I found the silicone rings like groove ring were really nice for working in and then having a nice ring for going out.

@@NightStalker2X the rings you bought were indeed real tungsten carbide. Other commenters mislead you because they spent way too much for tungsten carbide rings. Tungsten costs roughly $1/Oz and these rings contain roughly 15-20g of tungsten on average. You are not going to find a quality tungsten or tungsten carbide ring for under 20 dollars lmao. I got me and my wife tungsten carbide rings for 143 dollars each. They were made very well and most importantly had a nickel binder instead of the commonly used cobalt. I have personally tested them and i cant do anything to scratch it, and when thrown across the room onto brick, concrete, metal, whatever, they just bounce. Structural integrity, hardness, not a problem. Do your research.
