“The earth is just a rock without the voices of art” is one of the best quotes I’ve ever heard from him. It’s the kinda shit that will be written in essays about him centuries from now.
Kendrick will not use songs if he feels it doesn’t belong in the record. Even if they’re amazing. He almost didn’t use Alright until his buddy played the sax over it. Then it fit the instrumental theme of the album. There probably was some reason why he left this one out.
Same with the song f*cking problems which was originally a drake song, it was passed on to kendrick who didn’t want it because it didn’t fit gkmc and then it was passed on to asap rocky
Kendrick also has scrapped a lot of songs that have leaked, so he probably felt no need to do anything more w this after release, its honestly already complete but would just be too random to officially release as a single
I partially agree with Kendrick on separating art from the artist, but I think at certain point it's hard to separate especially when they're still alive and profiting from the art.
Kendrick is my favorite artist of all time, I remember when I first heard this leak I damn near cried. I was like DAMN., Kenny really 'bout to drop ANOTHER masterpiece. Then I was shocked and a bit dissapointed this wasn't on Mr. Morale. But still, he gave us another MASTERPIECE with Mr. Morale. Hopefully Prayer can get an official release sometime in the future... I mean King Kendrick and Uncle Al on the same track is what the world NEEDS.
@@camronclarke3518 We really got blessed with another Kenny/Uncle Al collab, that's crazy. I'm pretty sure everyone BUT Drake feels that way tho, LMAO.
Fr, I hope he releases it in a future album or something. It looks like he's gonna setup for another generational record though especially after the concert he just recently did that united both sides of the West even just for a night.
Glad some people like yourself aren't letting this gem be forgotten. I love Mirrors and it is a great great closer for Mr.Morale. But Prayer was perfectly crafted to close out the album. An absolute gem. Excellent video, btw! subbed! Keep going!
Not a lost song, but a lost masterpiece! You nailed it. Hip hop needed this, and we missed out on having a song that would’ve sparked such a discussion.

Found your channel a few days ago, really loving the content, I'm not knowledgeable about lost media in any way so being able to interact with these songs is super cool, I am excited for your next video!
I think about this song a lot. so damn good but no official release. Sometimes it;s hard to find it at all in its original form. thanks for making this.
Prayer is an early version of Father Time. The themes of fatherhood and being a leader as well as chunks of the instrumental (u can head it in the piano) are early versions of it. Not really lost media just a rough draft that internal team leaked.
um he literally did talk about that? i'm disappointed he didn't mention those rumors came directly from the FBI, who had a vested interest in discrediting his work and gutting his grassroots movement like much of the other lead figures of the Civil Rights movement
Yeah I looked into it more after making this vid and realized it might’ve been propaganda from the FBI. At the time I wasn’t the most knowledgeable about how the FBI was horrible, but I’ve done some reading since then.
I didn’t listen to the whole thing, but I wanted to after listening to a little of it. So it was here a few days ago, but today? It seems like it’s been swiped from UA-cam.
Dawg he legit said both of those exact dates in the song and obviously referenced them “First three letters of the alphabet my name” - ABC “The whole nation saved the day” - march on Washington
I feel like the message falls flat and Kendrick didn’t release the song because of that. Neither MJ nor MLK nor their Art are disregarded because of their controversies. There arguably the 2 most influential people of color of the last century and are in currently respected as such. And the final verse reveals a fear of being cancelled essentially, which just leaves this taste in your mouth of “what is Kendrick afraid of finding out”
Are you illiterate or what I didn’t know the dates mentioned in the song was about Kendrick! Really is crazy how Kendrick was born in the 1970 apparently And how Kendrick’s name is apparently the “first 3 letters of the alphabet” and how “the nation saved the day” 🤣

“The earth is just a rock without the voices of art” is one of the best quotes I’ve ever heard from him. It’s the kinda shit that will be written in essays about him centuries from now.
I just realised.. earth starting from "t" literally reads "the art.h"
@@glitch4010that's crazy bro I really has goosebumps 💯💯
And? That doesn't even make sense so I think it's a reach. I doubt Kendrick thought about earth the art h
@@glitch4010
He wasn't talking in first person in the last verse though.
He was speaking in the voice of "Art" itself.

Yeah that makes sense, but it’s unfortunate since the song is kinda stuck in the void because of that

Terrace Martin is a phenomenal sax player and he produced most of the TPAB album.
Probably because it was leaked. Who wants to put a leaked song on their album? Nobody
I partially agree with Kendrick on separating art from the artist, but I think at certain point it's hard to separate especially when they're still alive and profiting from the art.
Ye… being a great example
Definitely. People still need to be held acxountable for the shit they do.
In what way do you mean that it's harder to separate artist from their art, because of the fact that they profit from it?
Meh if you pirate their music and dont support them on social media then its fine
