So do I. I have been watching since my Uncle took me to a game in 1954. There I watched Sam Etcheverry throw bombs to Prince Hal Patterson. As a wide eyed 5 year old, I was so taken by the game and have been a dedicated fan of the Montreal Alouettes. I have suffered the lean years and rejoiced the fat ones. I watched the progress of a young quarterback and, at the same time, a resurgence of interest of the game in this city. That quarterback, who eventually would become Pro Football’s all-time leading passer in yards and touchdowns, was a Mexican American from California, Anthony Calvillo. It was 1998 when the ALS had a family day event for seasons ticket holders when I brought my 5 year old daughter and she was mesmerized by the cheerleaders and intimidated by the gargantuan 300+ pound linemen. That was until a tall, slim, smiling Anthony Calvillo approached us as we were mingling with the players on the field. She was shy as he kneeled before her and signed his autograph and can see that he would be right at home being a loving father. Was I right!
