The Stormlight Archive | Shallan Davar Character Study

Shallan Davar is one of the hardest characters to encapsulate and understand within the confines of just one video. Unlike Kaladin she has multiple aspects to what make her the person she is, and unlike Dalinar she finds it harder to move on from her past due to how she’s lied to herself about it and how she’s hidden parts of her past from herself.
Despite this, I will still attempt to summarise and analyse Shallan’s character to the best of my abilities...

I was surprised to hear you say that she witnessed her mother's death, when ever since I read WoR I've thought she was the one to kill her mother, which I feel like would be even more traumatic than just seeing it. Otherwise, this was a great analysis.

Yeah she did kill her mother, but I was trying not to give too much detail in case some people weren't caught up on the books. But I then changed my mind with the Dalinar video and I'll just go full spoiler and deep detail with future character studies :P

@@RavensRants Great video and interpretation of Shallan, she really is a complex character and one of the reason as to why I love the Stormlight Archive. So many complex and unique characters with their own problems, history and traits.
But do you know as to why Shallan killed her own mother? I think that's a thing I haven't quite understood when reading the books.

@@robinkhn2547 Iirc her mother was part of an organization that believes that the return of the Knights Radiant is a bad thing, and are dedicated to stopping it from happening. They're not Nale's new version of Skybreackers, but the same idea. When Shallan's mother saw that her daughter had bonded with a spren, she knew what that meant, and tried to kill Shallan. In response, Shallan's spren became a Shardblade and Shallan used that to defend herself, which killed her mother.
