If you ever feel overwhelmed towards being questioned about what to do after graduation, just remember, we're all equally confused and lost human beings who are making it up as we go. Some just hide it better than others. As we age, the urgency to hit conventional life milestones can cause anxiety, and as an encouragement message, it's okay to not know what career direction you'd want to head in later. Everyone is at their own pace :)
I gotta say this is one of the most relatable vlog that I have seen for PhD. The experiments and writing part reminded me of my own research journey. I graduated last year and can't believe that its over, but its all worth it. And yes, do a video about your research work, its interesting. Stay safe during this time and all the best for your work!!
I already watched other vloggers that actually said the "coronavirus" in there vlogs and they said that those videos are demonetized. I hope it won't happen to you guys take care always. I'm always waiting for your videos. Hope to see more :)
I'm in my final year and haven't come up yet with the topic of my thesis and it's really frustrating because I don't have time on my side and due to the total block down in Italy, my final internship was interrupted. I hope Italy comes out stronger from this! I really enjoy you guys vids! And good luck on your research!! Love from Italy!!

“Experiments don’t always go as planned” yesss the feels! I’ll be pursuing post graduate studies in the field of psychology too. I hope you have a separate video about your research too! I think it’s really interesting and relevant. Good luck with your PhD! One day at a time!
One of the best “Day in the life..” vids I’ve seen, made so by a combination of the subject, your work, your editing skills and soothing narration, but mostly your lack of gloss - it felt like a one on one conversation with a really nice hard working guy. Congrats and best of luck going forward.

The whole world is mess right now 🤦♀️ i'm a nurse in Germany, and to be honest i'm scared to go to work every day but i have to. So many things are going on right now,and for all medical stuff at this moment every day is getting more stressful and tiring. And what scares me the most is the fact that there are still people outside who don't take this situation seriously. Hope this all ends soon 😫
I really like this vlog. I like the way how Jason explains things and shows every piece of the building. I can tell he is a very patient and caring person
It's best to wear masks whenever you guys hanging outside! Every video out now means that you guys are safe and sound, which I'm looking forward too! Stay safe and healthy!
Please remember only certain type of mask will prevent you getting thr virus and those masks are desperately needed for first responders and medical personnel. Unless you're sick those cloth type mask will do little to.prevent you from getting the virus. Use those masks only if you have symptoms. Best way to stay safe is good hygiene, wash your hands and do not touch your face.
Your video made me reminded my uni life. As a oversea student that studied at sg, my surrounding people used to ask me same question too. Just keep doing the thing you are doing right now. Trust me, you will find your next target.
I was pleasantly surprised to see that you go to CCNY! My old stomping grounds :) I was a student when that research building was being constructed. Glad to see it's being put to good use. Best of luck on your final semester!
I was also like you before, I wondered what to do after I graduated. I got plans, but as time goes on, I realized life will always be full of surprises and be ready to whatever life's gonna bring. Good luck on your research! Your videos are so calming to watch. Keep it up, hoping to see more.
Good point you made about collaboration being missed in science field! I'm a kindergarten teacher in ATL and when engaging children in STEM research, collaboration and teamwork is something that we focus on to lead in better results and innovative critical thinking 🤗 keep safe and hang in there!
Omg Jason choosing his food when he is on a diet is literally me. On another note, I definitely hope that the situation gets better in NYC and all around the rest of the world. Like John mentioned it has brought some real ugly things to light but there have been definitely some heartwarming ones as well. Definitely wishing everyone to stay safe and healthy
Thanks for sharing. I am a CS PhD student at Columbia university, so not far from your place. I lived at Ktown earlier this year too. I like ur guys videos and I have similar interests of fitness, vision, fashion, etc..... it’s good to see people with similar background!

Before watching this, I was still considering whether or not to pursue with my phd. Now I know that I should. Thanks, Jason. Appreciate of you could vlog more on your phd journey.
Hope you guys are staying safe! Yes, I'm late to the party but much love from Trinidad & Tobago!! This channel is getting me through our third lockdown.
No but seriously we're in the same boat as far as school is involved. My funds ran out this semester. I want to finish my research this semester because I HAVE to graduate in December. I have no choice. So I guess despite the epidemic, we still out here collecting data. Big ups to you man👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽
Awe, don't worry Jason. Your journey is yours alone. And I am rooting for you because I can see your passion in engineering. You will eventually get there. Fighting!!!💪
Thanks for your video. I am in my sixth year of my PhD study, and this is so relatable. This is my final semester and the virus is hitting hard. Good luck on your research and stay safe.

And here I am wondering if I will pass my exams of the first semester in biomedical engineering. It's so inspiring to watch your videos, thank you! Greetings from Vienna 🇦🇹😄
I’m a PhD Student in Neuroscience studying targeted plasticity therapy. Watching your videos is comforting because it’s so relatable. The daily grind: lit review, writing, coding, advisor feedback, etc. Keep up the great work and please posting great UA-cam content. Even if it’s just some self reflection hahahah would like to hear that too! & mukbangs too :)) It’s gonna be a longggg battle w the virus like a marathon but pls stay safe!!
I’m gradually catching up on J Bro vlogs, and, reading these comments a year and a half after the fact (ugh, is that a sad commentary on my life?) Sweden has now extended their border closing to U.S. travelers through January 2022. That will be 17 months after my husband passed away and I still can’t get to his home country to bury him. Some days are better than others … true for us all. Thanks to J Bro for the diversions - some fun, some more serious, all interesting. Jason, my husband was a pretty brilliant man himself … an early Intel engineer, spoke 5 languages well, astronomer and sailor. He taught me to be curious about more things, even outside my comfort zone. That’s why I’m interested in your Ph.D. studies and your thesis work. My husband would have loved it and gotten it.
First impression: omg, I thought that I've clicked on a trailer of a thriller movie Second impression: he can ride a skateboard, cool! But it still looks like a thriller movie I'm kinda related to the question about what plan after graduation, cuz I don't have any answer so far, lol. I guess that I need to defeat the GRE test then apply for my Master's degree, that's the priority of my life now, lol Edit: LOL, haha I feel really related when you select food and start counting calories, cuz I do exactly the same, it drives my family and friends crazy lmaooo
Finally, after long time waiting, I can see your new vlog again 😅. Loveyour video, it's never boring. Everything here is also closing down, it's like a war is going on. I wish you success with your graduation and stay healthy!! Greetings from the Netherlands 🇳🇱
I usually never comment, but had to say that I really enjoyed this video! I felt a lot of peace and comfort when you talked about you're not sure what you want to do even though you've been in school for so long. I'm a first year pharmacy student and I'm still trying to figure what I want to do after I finish pharmacy school! Hope you're safe out there and good luck with your thesis! :")
Hello, good day Doctors, I'm new here and I'm thankful that Ive watched some of your vlog, I love the content, it has a lot of info. Hope to see and watch more, God Bless and take care.
My 6-year old daughter took Part in a very similar research at the university I work at. She had to wear the same “hat”. They were testing the effect of so called micro-breaks within school-lessons (e.g. short sports activities) on the brain-effectiveness of primary school kids.
Cafeteria Mukbang plzzzzzz 🥰 enjoyed this! I loved seeing you just skate your way through work, it looked so peaceful 🙈 thank you for sharing this video! 💖
Thanks for sharing your day! It is comforting to know what other PhD students go through. You did not have to fast forward through your research explanation, though! I hope you explain it, even if its your 5 minute elevator pitch version in another video. Please and thank you! Good luck and God bless!
Ooo visual cortex and motor cortex studies 😍 any publications out yet? 🤓 my lab does neural tracing studies on mice. Our main focus is on learning and memory related to the hippocampus but we have a post doc studying cortical plasticity in the visual cortex! Super cool.
Well I don't know how much my comment is understandable for you as I know I always tend to make too long and complex sentence, which is not good habit, but I wanted to write my thought on your video in Korean because I wanted to express my empathetic feeling on your video and say thank you to make me feel more encouraged to carry on my ph.d life :) Actually I really haven't got proper chance to share my thoughts with many people so far as there are few people who belong to academic field. Well anyway thank you for sharing your days with us. As always, have a good day!
It's interesting to show the life of a PhD student. At least I know what I'm getting myself into, lol. It seems like a lonely road but you said it can be a colloborative one too. Just applied for a PhD scholarship recently and with the current health situation and also the partial lockdown in Malaysia, I'm not sure about my future too. Anyway thanks for sharing your experience with us. Hope to hear you graduate one day. Good luck!
Love this video. This is exactly my life as a PhD student. I always stay late in my office and the late night study is very enjoyable. Unfortunately due to the whole virus thing I have to learn how to study at home. And you are so right PhD students don’t have many friends haha - we are kinda in this academia isolation already.
Yep.. our PI mandated we stay home haha... Gotta say CCNY campus is really impressive. Been to the ASRC once or twice before and it never cease to amaze !
I also do a lot of experiments as a consumer psychologist but I do observe a subject behavior. In our field we also use an eye tracker to see for example which packaging ( i.e. different color, shape) affects purchase decisions etc. It is so interesting to know your research and other fields!
I live in Germany where it’s pretty bad right now (We have now more cases than Korea..), however, I’ll stay home, and your video came up in my recommendations. Please stay safe and healthy there!
Ahhh, thanks for mentioning the life of grad students. This video reminds me of my graduate assistantship days. It wasn't much, but it was certainly enough to get by. Wish there were more graduate student youtubers like you :) Good luck, soon to be Dr Jason. Regards, Dr. P :)
I used to live at the corner of 34th and Dyer (left 2018 for Chicago) and our photo studio was at 31st and 10th so my world was usually just those few blocks. Sometimes up to Brooklyn Fare. My kitchen windows looked out towards your building. Such a small world.
21:06 #yanggang !! Don’t know how I ended up here, but I live in the neighborhood. Walk through the campus everyday. Thanks for the virtual tour. Hope you get to graduate.
Bro your videos are cool. I am trying to start my graduate studies in the upcoming semesters at US universities. Make more videos on PhD career and about the aftermath :3. Best wishes for your future completion of the journey. Love from Bangladesh ❤️
Things are much more serious in NYC now than what was shown in this video. All schools, universities, bars, restaurants are closed down mandatorily for the next month. I hope everyone is staying strong during these difficult times.

My 6-year old daughter took Part in a very similar research at the university I work at. She had to wear the same “hat”. They were testing the effect of so called micro-breaks within school-lessons (e.g. short sports activities) on the brain-effectiveness of primary school kids.
I sooo don't miss the grad school days of research...field work, lab work, and office hours. It gets better. I promise!
Thanks for this new video. I have an inspiration to be more hardworking for the better future 🤩
.... “instant gratification”. That’s what I’m doing watching your videos 😥 thanks for reminding me.
Except when watching jbro* haha
Wow I truly admire your hard work and dedication 💕
Cafeteria Mukbang plzzzzzz 🥰 enjoyed this! I loved seeing you just skate your way through work, it looked so peaceful 🙈 thank you for sharing this video! 💖
I’ve been watching your videos and I didn’t know you’re yang gang!!! I love you 10x more now. 😍
Thanks for sharing your day! It is comforting to know what other PhD students go through. You did not have to fast forward through your research explanation, though! I hope you explain it, even if its your 5 minute elevator pitch version in another video. Please and thank you! Good luck and God bless!
Didnt want to throw off all the non phd folks but good suggestion!
TY Jason..this made me feel better about everything that's been happening. I hope you stay safe and warm
Ooo visual cortex and motor cortex studies 😍 any publications out yet? 🤓 my lab does neural tracing studies on mice. Our main focus is on learning and memory related to the hippocampus but we have a post doc studying cortical plasticity in the visual cortex! Super cool.
City College!! My alma matter! Nice video, best of luck with your research.
Thanks for the tour!!! The vlog has done its purpose!!! hehehe good content!!!
I live in Vancouver and now it's getting serious in here too.. so worried about everything. stay healthy everyone
We are all in this together. Take care out there:)
Good luck!
Omg you work so hard!! You'll get your Phd very soon. Cheers!!
All the best for your PhD! Keep fighting on, I know it can be tough but you gotta keep believing in yourself!!!
Go team research!
Thank you!
what you do in your research that's really cool!
You will always be a wise man. you can do that bro. Enjoy the strugle life.
Stay save jason bro.
All things aside.... tell italian boy about me. Info about him please LOL

Please be safe and watch your health including everyone who’s watching this video 😊🙏
Stay away from mass group of people and keep yourself safe. Thx for the vid!
fighting fighting fighting ,thank you so much your videos motivate me
I also do a lot of experiments as a consumer psychologist but I do observe a subject behavior. In our field we also use an eye tracker to see for example which packaging ( i.e. different color, shape) affects purchase decisions etc. It is so interesting to know your research and other fields!
Ohh that sounds very interesting. We also do alot or behavioral measurements for videos and ad engagement.
Representing the struggling grad students! And thank you:)
good to see people on the subway practicing social distancing
ey fellow github and matlab user 🙌🏻 all the best for your final year and i really hope you get to graduate by the end of this year!!
I was getting interested on your research but sadly it was fast forwarded 🧐 I also enjoyed another good demo on brushing & Mr. Johns image 😁
i'm a 2nd year BME and i'm still trying to finish out if i want to go into industry or like go to graduate school so this was actually insightful
While watching the part on your research i was so much amazed like wow whata brain you've got😅🥰🥰🥰🥰
I used to live at the corner of 34th and Dyer (left 2018 for Chicago) and our photo studio was at 31st and 10th so my world was usually just those few blocks. Sometimes up to Brooklyn Fare. My kitchen windows looked out towards your building. Such a small world.
ASRC!! I was there for my campus visit for first year PhD. This cafe is awesome!!
