It’s been 30 years since The Christians’ heart-stopping blend of divine harmonies and glorious melodies first entered our lives. Their self-titled album still remains Island Record’s highest selling album from any debut artist.
Three decades later, Sings & Strings is a sparkling re-interpretation of nine Christians classics (eight originals and The Isley Brothers’ Harvest For The World), plus You’ll Never Walk Alone.
“It’s pretty much what it says in the title,” says Garry Christian, the recognisable face and voice of The Christians (who originally performed with two of his brothers). “There’s my vocals, the Echo String Quartet from Liverpool - who added some youthful enthusiasm - plus four great singers from the AMC Gospel Choir in Birmingham, Andy Steele on piano, and backing vocals from my band members Joey Ankrah and Neil Griffiths."
The original concept was to record the songs in a really stripped back format and Garry agreed as this seemed like the perfect reason to work with music mogul Dave Pilchilingi and his new label Modern Sky.

Had the pleasure to see The Christians in my beautiful city, Cape Town, a couple of years ago and loved it. Met Garry and took pics with him. Fantastic show 👏 👌 😀 👍
One of the best ever voices in the business, compared to the rubbish today. Gary and the Christians are one of best bands, and that is 100 per cent talent.

30yr anniversary ! I was 19,starting out in life thinking I knew everything,and it took me another 20yr to realise I knew nothing. The only advice I can give is,make your own way in life,learn from your mistakes and try everything.....at least once🙂thanks for the memories.

Am I crazy or does when the fingers point (sings and strings) piano sections sound almost identical to merry Christmas mr Lawrence? I have been listening to your music for a long time. I am 47 and around 18 years old I started listening. I had the video collection on vhs. Shame I found out is missing from the dvd gold collection and rhe animated bit from community of spirit. Just so used to watching the vhs for years. But the gold collection dvd is a nice set of songs. Hope for a blu ray video release I always liked the videos too.
