  • It is a first time I see a ski resort to make a great effort to help the beginner skiers to have a long and large trails for them can learn to practice with confidence this sport (specially for adults). A chair and also a gondola can lift beginners up to the Summit House (DERCUM Mountain at 11640 ft) which is the departing of the schoolmarm family ski trail to the village.
A part this, the landscape at this ski resort is very nice with different big nice mountains around. The resort is very near of Breckenridge, it has also a narrow mountain road that make you feel as out of time, specially when it is snowing.
If you like the ski ambiance, I will recommend to go direct to the 9:04 for you can follow the trail with a relaxing music, also the nice mountain landscape.
Language: Sometimes we talk in French.

I put on skis for the first time ever yesterday, and took to it quickly. I did schoolmarm and every green off-shoot after just a few hours, it was amazing. The only green I didn't do was "Ten Mile" which is the green that is served by the Bergman Express. I hear from my lifty friends that it's between a blue and a green so I didn't dare try it on my first day

Depending on your ski ability, I don't recommend Schoolmarm. It is a hard and long green - there are some parts that could easily be considered a blue run at other resorts, especially in the east. Novice skiers will want to stick with the learning areas or consider another resort like Breckenridge. Breck's Base 9 has some of the best easy/mellow green cruisers in the state - granted, you won't get the same epic views. Breck's Base 8 greens are slightly steeper than Base 9. Once you are able to ski most of the greens at Breck, you are ready for Schoolmarm at Keystone. My first time down Schoolmarm took me nearly 2 hours, but that was my first real skiing in over a decade.

Because we ski quickly but it took for us more than a half hour. Beginner can go to the summit and have the full high mountain for training with different trails. We did a tour to have an idea then we change to other runs at other places.

I learned to ski when I was 16 and was able to do an easy blue at Ski Apache in New Mexico. Later in my adult life, I skied Winterplace in West Virginia and after a day or so, was able to get back to doing blues there too. It had been over a decade since then when I skied at Keystone last year. I did warm up on the bunny hill first but my first attempt at Schoolmarm took me nearly 2 hours to get down. Granted, I was a bit out of shape and still adjusting to the altitude. My second attempt (at night) took me around 90 minutes. Schoolmarm is not an "easy" green by any stretch - sections of it could easily be a blue at other resorts. While a 60lb kid might be able to pizza down most of it, an adult will need to terrace a lot or be confident with parallel turns. If you are coming from the east, go to Breck Base 9 first, then Base 8 - if you can ski most of Breck's greens, you are ready for Schoolmarm at Keystone.
