I just realized all the time I have spent watching your videos adds up to about 200 hours!! If I had processed firewood on my processor I could have 400 cords more done. Chris In the Woodyard is killing my firewood business!! Thanks and keep up the good work!
Good morning Chris, I just finished up a large pile of Almond rounds. I discovered a new split "for me" on the large rounds split in the center then keep the round vertical and split off a 2"-3" wide slab. Now when I lay the slat flat I split off 3" wide almost square pieces. Its faster and the finished wood looks like it would bundle so much better. Good to see you back on the saw and splitter.
Good decision to use the single wedge. Works really well, and very little waste. The Eastonmade splitter is fast enough to still have good productivity. You ended up with a beautiful pile of firewood from the tree service "free" wood.
Yet another terrific day in the Final Approach Woodyard, where inexpensive wood goes too increase in value through the implementation of " The Carlson Effect".
So Chris, you have managed to squeeze every ounce of efficency out of one of the least expensive models of the Eastonmade lineup. And as we both know efficency and long hrs. are the the key to maximum firewood production. If it weren't for the constant bending over, and lifting large heavy oak rounds I deal with, I would have chosen the Ultra over the Axis. I run my splitters vertical in a comfy chair. Getting soft in my old age! I do quite enough bending over backwards for my Wife! Lol Great video. And now... Up, up and awayyy to the woodyard. Have a great day everyone. Another 105 degree day for G Daddy. KEEP PUSHING!!!
Love this video and all the other ones I watched of yours. What is the purpose of the handle on the splitting wedge on the splitter? Thanks. update just heard you say that you can change the splitting maul from single to 4. Do you have video of changing the splitting maul? Thanks
Yes I do have a few of them, I do not know the name or number, I have almost 800 videos on my channel now, sorry, you will have to hunt for it there! It would be a splitting video with that splitter !
G’morning Chris. Awesome work today. Nice fella on the delivery. I always use my digging bar as a ice chopper for the stringy bits, can also use as the most best lever. GoodNightIrene !!
I'm trying to watch all 750 videos. I'm on U T TV and only can comment on my phone. I think it was only 104 here today in South West Arkansas today. When it gets below 20 it is totally to cold with our humidity. I'm almost 69 and have worked in the woods all my life till I retired. I'm a Husqvarna man. Started with a huge 480. Keep cutting and stacking.
It been in the 90 for a month here. I might have get me a tent. Shortwood burns good. I got truck load and trailer load for free this year cut short so they could handle it. I piled it on some pallets to dry. I put it in the garage in some them metal tots. It burns the same. Have a good night Chris
Afternoon Chris, Could you tell me what size is your trailer (LXWXH) when you fill it up with loose firewood as a full cord in this video. I have an 8ft X 5ft with 4ft sides trailer just wonder is it roughly the same volume. Thanks, Nice Video a classic !
Hello Chris, IMHO the ultra produces a much more consistent product with far less (almost none) waste or kindling when using the single wedge. Cycle time is so fast it almost looks like you produce more wood in less time when you consider the 4way clean up time and sorting kindling plus the wood that is lost to waste. I really like the way that ash was splitting. GNI
If the Ultra had a hydraulically adjustable wedge, would be a lot less waste with the 4-way wedge. The wings don't grt in the way of resplits. But with that knotty tree service wood, a lot less trouble and is quicker with the single wedge. Don't have to fight the knots much.
Chris wood service wood look good . EASTONMADE axle had a little work today in the wood yard . I’m head out early in the morning, I’m drop a 42” dead elm in the city tmw morning. I’ll put down a blast mat down in parking lot , drop the tree onto it . Save the pavement it’s own 105 ‘ long . Sweet little job in the morning before it’s too hot out .
G' Mornin'! Does split size affect final volume of wood? If you had a full cord stacked with 1/2 splits, then re-split and made 5" pieces, then re-split and made your size, would that end up making more/less of a cord for each scenario? Just like licks on a tootsie pop, the world may never know. It'd be interesting, but a lot of extra stacking.
I save the notch pieces from when I drop a tree for firewood too. It all burns and a lot of the time they are about the same size as the stuff I am splitting. A guy that works in my body shop has a wood stove he can only fit no more then 10-12 inch pieces into. I have got some tree service wood that was cut to 20-24 inch or so pieces so I blocked it down small for him. He normally buys firewood and then cuts it in half himself lol. Figured I could sell him at least a truck load or 2 that were the right size for his tiny stove lol
Hey Chris, I've noticed in your videos recently you're putting all the voice audio in the right ear. Is it possible to do both channels? a good amount of time I only have my left earbud in.

Ever had the firewood push against the legs of your canopy? I have an expensive one that I’m hesitant to use at the woodyard. Looks like I should try it out
Morning Chris, I just got my ultra and I've been playing around with the 4 way wedge and single wedge, and wedge height. Which do you find is overall faster?
Hi Chris. I was just watching your video of course. It’s seems like if you have a four or a six way wedge. You get a lot more scraps to clean up. Hopefully more wood for you from the storms. Take care.
Some good news. My new toy will be going to production in 6wks or so! Can't wait! Is going to make summer firewood production a lot easier with as fast as it is!
6 weeks?? I am itching to get mine. After I left a job I looked at my,daughter snd said I could have used it today.. Oh well 3k left to go in the final stretch..
@@thefirewooddoctor : well than you better hurry and get the Dodge Charger green. Such a bright color you will need sunglasses to look at it in the dark..🤣🤣👍
Any thoughts on dropping the cookie door on the 22 MB and using the splitter to split up your TS wood. I know it would take 2 people to be efficient but I would give it a shot. I would have the rounds in your Kioti bucket to reduce the amount of manual lifting. Also then the split wood would be dropped into your dump trailer. Just a thought. Great video!
Nice pile of ash, there. I do the same with my cookies- split them into sticks if they're big enough. If not, I make em into small chunks for those days I need a quick fire. (Cuz I'm too darn hungry to wait for large pieces to burn down) then just toss small hunks of apple or cherry on the coals for the smoke.
The Ultra producers a nice even split, the Processor is great for quantity but control of quality is a problem. Unless of course you just want boiler wood.
I burn all my cookies in my wood and coal furnace. I burn them usually when it get about upper 40's and 50's at night to keep the house warm enough through the day.
If you occasionally take a flat file and sharpen up the knife edge of the wedge...not really sharp... but at least take the blunt out.... you will split a lot easier and eliminate the mashing and the slabs will be a lot more neat.
So I dont udnerstand the stacking. So lets say you take 20 face cords, throw them in some ni a big net bag. This will tell you how full the bag needs to be. Now have your processor drop into the wood atraight into the bags. You can lift the bags right onto your truck with the tractor. Would save you so much time
This has been discussed here dozens of times over the years. The bags are at least $25-30 each now and I would need 800 of them ...$24,000 and then how do I unload them at the customers??? A few people I know tried them for an actual working firewood business and all said ....nope!
You might consider carrying a small hatchet with you for splitting. It makes it nice when you get a small snag in the wood to just cut it with one swing. Keep up the great work!
The 592XP is what brought me to his channel as I was searching for reviews at the time and had the vision of running the 592 with a 24" b&c for bucking big rounds, works perfect for my use but unlike Chris once the rounds are under 20ish" I switch to a lighter saw.
