To really hear the full Cissy experience with Whitney, look up the early appearance at the Merv Griffin Show where they did a medley including “Ain’t No Way” which of course featured Cissy’s soprano. 20 years later she did it live with Whitney and it’s straight up operatic. I'm not a fan of Cissy's LIVE singing most times. She killed this! My favorite song of hers is Tomorrow from Annie. I said if that don't sound like Whitney MAMA MAMA!
I'm a die-hard Whitney Houston, and sexy heels send fan,I think the two best singers in the whole wide world, that I can never choose between, or Whitney Houston, and Patti LaBelle, like I just will never be able to choose between the two of them, Cissy Houston and her prime, of course she was famous for her one take operated heino in Aretha ain't no way,all because Whitney Houston's father, asked her to try it, because Aretha just kept feeling like this song was missing something, and of course they made history, as the Sweet Inspirations, not only doing backing vocals from everybody who was anybody, but they also wanted them to tour with him every one of the people they did that Brown music with, from Shaka to Aretha, to Elvis, to Luther, the list goes on and on and on,so I cannot understand, why you didn't happen for the Sweet Inspirations, when they recorded their own album, and I can't understand why especially Cissy Houston's first album, didn't immediately go go, the one with "Be My Baby", on it, "Yesterday", "Make it Easy on Yourself", and of course the song so the Broadway play, but she was in called "Tomorrow",and even her album after that, for the Disco ERA, with Think it Over on It,didn't make it either, she just quit, and kept doing her work in New York, but I'll never understand why, you can only thing as you know, cuz you're a singer too, just like me, from your chest, your guts, and your head, and Cissy Houston cuz sing a song from beginning to end, using nothing but her head notes, which is the hardest notes to hit for people that don't got them, like had notes are second nature to me I can do them, but not everyone can, and that's how she does her high notes, you notice she always goes in with the head no, and being the song so far, to where you think she just killed it, and it's over, and that's when the high part out of it comes, so I'll never understand, how it did not happen for her, how was she good enough to record, thousands upon thousands upon thousands of songs, there were all went platinum, and go, and won Grammys and all that, and the people songs that actually sung them, wanted hurt out with them, or the whole Sweet Inspirations out with them while they were on tour, like how can somebody be that important, in music, it got so hectic, because people would literally start fighting over them, when different artists that wanted them for tour with them, tour dates overlaspped each other,so again I don't understand for the life of me, how she was so important in music, but not important whatsoever, to music, and I never will...................
Cissy was the original singer of "Midnight Train to Georgia" (though it was released, it sounded more like a demo/guide song for Gladys Knight & The Pips) but her real strength was behind Aretha Franklin and with The Sweet Inspirations (especially the song named after the group)! Cissy, Whitney, Dionne, Dionne's sister Dee Dee Warwick (who you need to hear singing "Foolish Fool") [who were all related] and Aretha were some pool of talent! I don't know whether or not you are just doing female vocalists or not right now, but please check out Billy Paul's version of this song. I just don't hear that much of Cissy in Whitney. This was surprisingly pleasant. Not usually a fan of her singing; I find it way too overbearing. But this one was pleasant. 😊
I like Cissy but she needed the right production to bring out her best. Just as "Midnight Train to Georgia" belongs to Gladys Knight & The Pips, though Cissy did it first, this song belongs to Billy Paul, though Elton John did it first. The right production could have made this as good as Billy Paul's! She was greatest with the Sweet Inspirations (check out the song by the same title as the group and "Let It Be Me") or behind Aretha Franklin and Elvis Presley. Cissy has a nice voice - and I love her sense of control - but it has to be right for on the song. But if you want to hear a song in which it is hard to tell Cissy from Whitney, listen to "This Empty Place."

Cissy, Dionne, and Whitney have similar tones when belting. Each unique but you can hear how they're all related.
I do hear a lot of Dionne in Cissy, they are definitely closely related.
Cissy truly taught her daughter every thing she knew. This was beautiful Cissy.
Whitney was a combination of her mother and a young Dionne
