Update from Riot:
During our most recent balance pass, we discovered that Viper’s smoke uptime is shortened in-game. This is due to an update that had unintentionally shipped in 7.09 resulting in reduced smoke duration and cooldown after deactivating Viper’s smoke.
While we hadn’t meant for these to go out, they are a rough preview of some upcoming updates we now have set for Patch 8.08.
We’d never intentionally make balance changes without messaging. But since Viper has proven such a dominant force in the meta even with her smoke duration reduction, we will not be reverting the change before the next update.

They keep nerfing her and doing stealth nerfs to her. The smoke orb doesnt turn off as fast as it used to. The fuel doesn't recharge good anymore. Brim gets 19 second smokes and he has three of them, they dont recharge but at least they can execute a site
She still is the most picked agent by far at pro level so they have to do something abt it

@@therealchicken7151 i think they're trying to say that when they coded in clove and added clove to the game, they accidentally created a bug which makes smokes go down faster. not sure how likely that is but i think thats what they were trying to iterate

@@therealchicken7151 coding and dev often has bugs. doesnt matter if its 1 person indie learning, or a massive corpo of seniors. bugs happen ALL the time. and they often dont make sense to us humans, but clearly the code isnt done right and bugs happen.
it may seem random and may seem like it doesnt make senes, but its completely possible cloves smokes is the reason other smokes last shorter. i can think of multiple reasons as to how it can happen, but then again i dont actually know how they have made cloves smokes and all, or anything else in the game for the most part. i know some UE4/5 and how programs work, but i dont know how riots chose to do theirs.
could be as simple as reusing some assets or functions, then editing the smoke time / using a copied sequence to whatever they want it to be. like rly, it could be as simple as it unintentionally using the same variable for something.

Riot always silent nerfs stuff and it goes unnoticed unless you are maining the nerfed agent. The same happened to me with Chamber where they removed the ability to pick up utilities in mid-teleport which fixed the fake tp glitch. This was not included in any patch notes.

Bro why do they have to keep doing my girl like that, I swear it felt so much harder to go between both my wall and smoke and using any of it on its own felt like a waste since it gobbled so much fuel so fast. ty for backing me up on not being schizo.
it's because viper's wall is the single most powerful piece of utility in the entire game. imagine if omen could have three smokes that had the flexibility to be used every 8 seconds for short durations or waiting a while to be up for a good while and regenerated infinitely over the course of a round. now imagine that he had a fourth one on another of his skill slots. now imagine that those smokes applied decay damage to enemies walking through them, making them substantially more threatening than walking through a regular smoke. now imagine that his last regular skill slot was dedicated to mollies that double damage intake and can finish the job on someone who has taken a lot of decay damage already without needing to fire a single bullet. viper being a difficult character to use, having to manage the fuel bar, is not the same as her being bad.

@@tallmills except viper can't place her smokes literally anywhere and can't either be picked up or is difficult to do so. combine that with only 1 (2 if you count her ult) non smoke util and she's not all that. heck just buff other smokes if need be. i don't play viper but i have no complaints against her, even thought she was due for a buff. just annoyed they didn't buff omen or his tp if anything.

The regular player base copies what the pro player base does, so it makes sense to nerf agents based on VCT. I don’t even know how this is an argument

So I looked a little closer at some of the numbers (probs should have done this before uploading but too late now)
Wall - Lasts 14.25s FROM THE MOMENT YOU PRESS THE BUTTON, so including the time for the wall to come up, it's effective for more like 12.5s
Orb - Again lasts for ~14.25s including the time to appear, so the total effective time is like 12.5s
Wall & Orb Together - Is ~10s from the moment you press the button, so effective time up is now closer to ~8.5s
Also it turns out Viper's Wall & Orb together are meant to last like 10s together (unlike what I said in the video), so it seems like both wall & orb together are also slightly nerfed in this patch.
The worst part is they will keep nerfing her, publicly or privately, because her wall and Molly simply make her the best agent in many cases. But they won’t nerf the right things. I honestly expect they could keep nerfing the wall and orb so it’s just half the time of an omen smoke

Honestly viper feels too weak, like in the sense that she can be super power full for short bursts, but each burst is sporadic. I honestly think they should nerf her decay to like 50-60 and increase her fuel regeneration.
Stopped playing her because the abilities last for such a small time it was draining MY energy. And now it's even less. Spectacular
Same, just use her for Breeze, Icebox and Sunset, I am now using Omen on other maps and probably Glove too soon. Viper is a pain to work with. May any day change her in Sunset too.
Literally no normal player complains about viper smokes lasting to look yet the still continuously nerf her. I remember the last nerfs she got people were still not happy with it, and they just needed her again. Idk what riot is smoking
@@lelouchlamperouge5910 I used on only on Breeze, but got so tired I decided to play Harbor instead and I think he is more comfortable to work with. Also use him on Bind, and any other map is just Omen, but Clove seems very interesting, so I'll probably implement her on some of the maps
Also, you can't pick up your orb back when you put in some places specially for one ways... places that I could easily pick up back... Riot is nerfing Viper too much...
omg i faced the same issue multiple instances as well. I was unsure as to whether it was a bug or my PC. This is so weird. Its not supposed to do that.

You can make literally any agent viable if your not in high inmo/radiant, even then it's possible

I'm a controller main, not even a high ranked one. She is NOT "mid" in ranked lol, on some maps she is by far, without a doubt, the most meta pick. Breeze especially.
She's not completely broken or anything, but a nerf is completely reasonable.
this has been going on for about several months now, but has people also noticed the silent nerf on Killjoy's alarmbot? it takes almost two second to catch an enemy now, compared to just 1 second that it was before, this happened some time after her previous update, and it wasn't indicated in the patch notes or anything
im not a viper main i play mostly omen but i was playing viper yesterday and noticed something felt off about my wall duration but i just thought it was me not playing her enough to know but a silent nerf makes more sense
havent seen a comment mentioning this yet, but as of right now Clove smokes only stay up ~13 seconds, this may be a bug and it may be intended to last 15 seconds, or they're changing all others for consistency, (like omen and viper smokes, brim smokes last longer I think)
Why would they change all smokes universally when they function differently from one another. Each smoke character has unique properties for their smokes so it's nonsensical to try and unify them.
It makes way more sense to just shadow nerf Viper bc she's a big vct pick and they want clove to be the main controller instead.
@@neophyte_tpk What are you smoking, even if riot wants to make clove the main controller, viper isn't the right character to nerf. Viper's only ever played as a secondary controller not main, so that reason makes no sense.
Im starting to think that Riot has absolutely no clue on how to nerf their agents. This changes literally nothing in pro play because wall is never used for full duration, but for ranked, where viper is already average at best and mostly single controller, this nerf will make it terrible to play. As a viper main, the only good nerf for her is taking vulnerability from her mollies and leave damage only or vice versa. Or maybe tamper with her decay numbers in her smokes. But this change makes absolutely no sense and i hope its a bug
Nah bro they're busy making smokes that look like non-binary flags, stop your horses there, this is more important than carefully nerfing or buffing characters.
Another issue I've noticed that I think is a bug- the poison orb will not let you pick it up sometimes when you put it down on an uneven surface. This may seem small but to someone who is a big viper main and uses that orb a ton (one ways, pop smokes, moving around etc) it's a pretty big bug and can lead to the orb being stuck and just wasted
This is going to hurt me more since I play viper a lot on Breeze, Lotus, Pearl, and rarly Sunset.
Looking at the Viper's pickrate in VCT matches, surely more nerfs will be incoming to Viper to encourage more attention to other controllers.

In Patch 4.04 they made it so fuel drain increased 50% when Toxic Screen and Poison Cloud are both active, so it should have been like 7.5s considering the Wall and Orb were 15s each.

increased by 100% would be going from 15s -> 7.5s, but increased by 50% would be 15 /1.5 = 10

Also the default phantom shooting sound is different, it used to have more base now its not i miss it !
Also, Astra I noticed that Astra's stars took a lot longer to be activated after the round started.
They have actually brought the duration close to what Clove already has.

Nah, and that's confirmed to be a bug with the skin sound changes. I saw a dev talking about that on Twitter and they're working on a fix

Viper was the most picked agent on vct masters at any map. The nerf was coming any time soon. It still sucks that they do these chadow nerfs from time to time like, why dont they just put it in the patch notes for transparency?

And its not like viper is useless in ranked either, she's still one of the most picked agents there as well.
I don't think it is the right nerf either. The thing that makes viper so strong is she can put up and put down the wall and the orb when ever she needs to. Both in pro play and ranked, people can easily abuse this to deny massive amount of information. For other controllers, including Harbour, you don't have that flexibility. If you put up the smoke, it is up there for the smoke duration, and the enemies can come up with some way to counter it.
In my rank games, not having the wall for long enough will definitely make my experience worse as the viper player. But it also does not solve the fact if the enemy viper decides to play mind games with the wall and the fuel, I still don't know how to counter it.
Harbour is the worst controller and by far the worst agent in valorant. I see in ranked people picking yoru for a fun time but never harbour. Riot has no qualms keeping harbour out of play,man they suck
@Infinitetreee I have seen iso getting picked all the way to the Diamond lobbies. On the other hand I have seen Harbour picked last two acts ago. That too in a double controller team comp. So yeah Harbour is a ridiculously low paying agent. His abilities are quite weak to be used effectively in solo queues.

I mean, the chat color change is really minimal compared to a whole ass nerf of a character. I can understand them not putting (or just simply forget to put) the color change in patch notes but it's really inexcusable to shadow nerf an agent and not say a word.

rgx butterfly isnt as great as u may think. at least from my experience, I got bored of it pretty fast
the butterfly knifes are kinda cool but you get used to those rly quick ( i have the magepunk one and the amount of sound + visual distraction that a butterfly make is insane ) , i think getting a blade is better for a long period and fr sovereign blade is beautiful

Viper does not occupy the same space as gekko or clove. Her pickrate has hardly anything to do with theirs.

Stop nerfing abilities, Every new agent recently is very mediocre. And the ability nerfs not only made this game like CS:2, where it is just gunplay gameplay, it also made the game un-fun, and made me want to quit.
