  • A tutorial on how to make a flashing / Blinking / Pulsing LED lights circuit using IC 555 Timer on a Breadboard. In this project the NE555 IC works in astable mode. This circuit can be converted into a flashing LED circuit by using a capacitor across the LED.
    Explanation of the working of this LED flasher circuit is at the end of the video. For more 555 timer projects, visit this channel.
    The components you need are:
    * 555 Timer IC
    * Breadboard
    * Power supply: 5v-12v
    * LED
    * Resistors: 100kohms, 470kohms, 270ohms
    * Capacitor: 1uf
    * Breadboard Connectors
    For circuit diagram / Schematic, visit this page: elonics.org/flashing-led-circ...
    About 555 Timer IC:
    The 555 timer IC is an integrated circuit (chip) used in a variety of timer, pulse generation, and oscillator applications. The 555 can be used to provide time delays, function as an oscillator, and as a flip-flop element.

    Brilliant. I am totally new to electronics and I am starting late on in life. At 45 years old with disability and poor health. I have just recieved a breadboard kit and this video is so simple to understand that I can follow it. Thank you. Ken, near Wigan UK.

    Thank you for your excellent tutorial video! I followed along with the video and was able to produce a functioning circuit. Even better, with the links provided in the description, I was able to tailor the blinking rate to my particular needs. Best electronic tutorial hands down.

    I knew capacitors in parallel increase the capacitance, I knew resistors in parallel reduces the resistance. You just made me understand how that affects the LED flash rate with the 555. Thank you sir! Subbed. Be safe, good man. 5/9/20.

    This was gr8! For some reason or other, I often have problems with getting these 555s going, but using your circuit, I got the thing working 1st time. Your presented schematic is very clear and easily understood. Another issue is the mark space ratio, the amount of time the output goes high, in relation to it going low. I'd like to know how to improve this to make it 50% - 50%. Another issue I found is, if you've an FM radio nearby, it will stop receiving but instead will give out a broad band RF signal, which swamps the nearby radio, giving out a loud 'rushing' noise. This can be corrected by a 0.01mfd capacitor connected between pin 5 and ground (negative), I have found. It may not be a problem if working from a battery, though. Thank you for uploading. (o:
