In this video we went to the wealthy District 7 (Phú Mỹ Hưng) part of Saigon and immersed ourselves into the things it has to offer! We started off with strolling through the posh area full of massive villas, through the beautiful park and had an amazing meal at the Train Restaurant 🚂 This District is also known for Korean and Taiwanese people living there so we haven't missed the opportunity to buy our favourite snackiesss 😍🇰🇷🇹🇼

I first went to Phu My Hưng in 2000 and there were only two low rise condos built ,the rest of the area was empty swamp land .
They were just starting out and as I remember as nice as the condo was I remember thinking no way people would buy here it’s swamp land .
Looking at the area today how wrong was I ? It probably would have been a good investment .
Yes walking around on the uneven sidewalks you are reminded that it isn’t exactly built on solid ground but the buildings are high quality.
That whole area is basically owned by a private company with private security and yes they probably have restrictions there that you would not find elsewhere in Saigon on public land .
People do love to live there for the peaceful lifestyle and it is the safest area of the city with all of the streets under 24/7 private security.
Bag and phone snatchers there usually get caught by the first rate security unlike the rest of the city .
This is a master planned community that has won awards from all around the world and the Taiwanese owner Lawrence Ting was a true visionary and had major guts to invest in swamp land .
Sadly he took a flying leap off a 15 floor building in Taiwan in 2004 in an effort to save face because he was accused of corruption .
He never got to see how great his development would become .

There are 2 Korean Towns in Saigon, the old Korean Town was in Tan Binh district, Koreans moved in all the new houses built on empty lands around the airport area back in the 1990s, today you can see some Korean businesses in Tan Binh district . Eventually Phu My Hung was the earliest to build and take shape so Koreans all moved here. Now each district has this new urban complexes built adjacent to the current local areas, each of these project ranging from couple dozen to hundred of hectares, they are built on old industrial, cemeteries, landfills, farm lands etc .....eg: District 2 also has lots of Koreans, but they use that as residential areas not much businesses.

I went to a university closed to PMH back in 2006 and most of my foreign classmates lived in PMH at that time so I frequented this area quite often. It was quiet and empty back then. I haven't been back for a while and it's nice to see how much developed it has been.

Phu My Hung was one of the first if not the first major urban redevelopment in Vietnam that had proper modern urban pla ning principles applied in its creation. Its a lesson which demonstrate that good Western modern urban planning design principles together with unrivalled Centralise power can really work together very well in the creation of new desireable urban area and rejuvenate a city. A lesson that have been seemingly forgotten in Vietnam and somehow ignored in the West.

@@JayeshChhaya the second coming of Phu My Hung but on Asian steroid is the Thu Thiem district urban development, however this has somewhat lost some momemtum due to compulsory land acquisition corruption and real estates / land market pricing manipulation corruption. There is a lot of money to be made and everyone wants a piece of it. What we are also witnessing is the gradual privatisation of public land/space by big private corporations and wealthy net worth individuals. As is it in many other parts of the world. The security guys are asking you questions not because they got nothing else to do.

South Vietnam's administration gave lands to farmers under "Người Cày Có Ruộng" ("farmers have lands") program to help farmers living in the free and prosperous Republic of South Vietnam, unlike the widespread land robbing systematically conducted by the Vietnamese Commie terrorists first in North Vietnam then in the whole country after they took over South Vietnam, too, even to these days (search "cuop dat dan" on UA-cam to see countless clips of land-robbing of citizens by the Vietnamese Commie regime bandits), dating back from Commie China's puppet Ho Chi Minh's deadly land-reform (1953-1956) that brutally slaughtered nearly 1 million North Vietnamese landowners alone. That's why about 1 million North Vietnamese fled to the free and prosperous Republic of South Vietnam during Geneva Peace Accord 1954 to escape Communist atrocities committed by North Vietnamese Commie terrorists in North Vietnam, and essentially none of South Vietnamese went to North Vietnam during this exchange. All true. Do your research!

Phu My Hung is 750 hectares, mid-rise urban, there's another urban like this highrises Vinhome Grand Park with 271 hectares in Thu Duc district currently underconstruction, roughly 60% is done, you can come and see the grandeur of this new area now or come back in 3yrs to see the complete city.
They say the riches and super riches live in Phu My Hung, but the really wealthies and top elites live in district 2.
Phu My Hung has the advantage of urban planning but the disadvantage is zoning. You are expected to build according to the zoning law. District 2 has no urban planning people build as they wishes, so they built grand mansions and palaces on great masses of land tucked behind tall gates, with private securities, so we see nothing much, but Phu My Hung is all out and about with neigbourhood securities in all pockets of town.

Do you know why the security guard didn't want you to film in PMH ? It's because the wealthy residents there don't want any stranger to sneak in their privacy . It's like in the US or Canada , there is a lot of upper class residential districts where no strangers are allowed to come inside without previous invitation . There are security guards everywhere . I have myself four first cousins and second cousins living in PMH . One of them owns one of the hugest villas there . From outside it looks like a French mansion but so far I am never been invited to her home even we are first cousin . Once a while we meet each other at some fancy restaurants in D1 but never at her place . Another one owns a smaller house (but still quite big and nice ) and a boutique hotel which customers are mainly Korean visitors . The two other ones are professionals and businessman . They all tell me they don't want to be disturbed by strangers for security reasons .

Securiry forbid any one filming this area because house owner had paid them to do that. Owner want to keep their private. So they're afraid that somebody will recognize them or their house and know where they live.

      Makita is small areas &
Outside of makita is like whole different slums!!
      I’m not hate or racist
But cant compare Vietnam vs Philippines
When Philippines only have makita areas.
While Vietnam is devolveping in alots cities, not focus one fews cities like what Indo or Philippines did
All big city in Vietnam is devolveping well & changing UNBELIEVABLE IN LAST 20Y TILL NOW!!
Gorvement spend moneys to invest & build infraction in alots city to help city can take more investment.
while in Philipinese it just fews city get special treat & investment
in Vietnam, a country smaller than Philippines 3 times.
but alots of growing rapidly & devoloped city as Hanoi (capital), Saigon (biggest city in vietnam), Vungtau city (city stand close to Saigon & its beach city), Long An city (stay on Northen of Saigon, right next to Saigon)
Can Tho city (northen city in lower map)
Ca mau (island city, city in farest part of vietnam map)
danang, hue, Nha trang, hoi an (4 biggest & well develop city in Central map Vietnam)
Nothern Vietnam beside Capital Hanoi city, Haiphong city (the place Vinfast car have manufactures) & it big ports city long time ago
Halong city (most fanous landcape beach in vietnam) but they city is well devoloped too
There are fews Second tiers & Third tiers city level as well.
In last 10y till now, alots Pinoys expat find job & trying working in Vietnam.
this alone, proven how unbelieve rapidly vietnam economic growing in last 25y till now!!
in small city & moutain city, there are roads & bridges everywhere help people & locals can connect each orhets & trades easier, faster!!
while in Philippines & Indonesia outside big city, infraction is lacking, alots muddy roads. and it hekd down alots people lives, wont take any invest & bussiness not growing.
its all because Pinoys gorverment not spend moneys to invest infraction in sync, theyre onky focus on fews city as Manila, Cebu,etc..

Even local Vietnamese quickly learned that cheap food doesn't mean safe food, as contaminations and food poisoning happen ALOT in Commie Vietnam. Recently 300 people got hospitalized for food poisoning even in tourist destination Hoi An due to consuming contaminated Banh Mi. All true. Do your research!

if you're a tourist & u travel to Hồ Chí Minh city, only go to District 1, 2, 3 and the rich areas in district 7 because these are the only clean, well maintained districts. Elsewhere is just full of air pollution, noise pollution, trash everywhere, dirty sidewalks combined with the unbearable heat. Honestly, if you're still in Vietnam traveling, go to the popular tourist spots like Hạ Long Bay, Ninh Bình, Hội An, Đà Nẵng, etc or go visit the rural, countryside areas of Việt Nam if u wanna experience beautiful, jawdropping natural landscapes & actually have some fresh air to breath in. Hồ Chí Minh city has very poor urban planning, only worth visiting if you personally enjoy all the chaos & the unhygienic conditions that remind u of an apocalyptic city setting

@Bandnana Saying while ignoring historical facts. when did Saigon have city planning? French colonialists took power in Vietnam since 1870. They left Vietnam nothing but poverty after 80 years of governing and the war had been lingering on till 1980. Vietnam only has peace in a true sense in the last 20 years. Any government knows about city planning but where are the funds? Do you know in 1980's Vietnam was one of the poorest countries of the world.

As play on words, Vietnamese often refer to Commie Vietnam's Ho Chi Minh city as Hồ Chứa Mưa (Rain Water Lake) city due to its ubiquitous torrential flooding half of the year, along with the rest of the country, not to mention it's a sinking city, with sea water rising up 5cm every year, due to the Vietnamese Commie regime's systemic corruption, gross mismanagement, and poor urban planning.

If the government is what it said it was the Vietnamese should be my priority in any economic development not to catering to some rich foreigners whose countries had a not too distant hostile past toward Vietnam. The Vietnamese communist party was plagued with corrupted, heartless, soul-less party cadres who joined the party just for the purposes of being full-fledged certified corruptors with a license issued by the party. If the anti-corruption campaign which is currently being advertised by the party chief had any merit then the firing squads going to work day and night for an extended years because jails running out of space. True Vietnamese is still living in the squander conditions, like holes in the ground and Koreans and Taiwanese are building their paradise on the land of Vietnam where generations have fought and die, even against these so-call Vietnam lovers. Sad!
