- Many guitarists know the two basic barre chord shapes but not many other moveable chord shapes. In this video you'll learn eight different ways of playing the common moveable major chord shapes that look like a C chord. Closeup video from player viewpoint uses examples from these songs:
Ozzy/Randy Rhoads: Crazy Train
Fleetwood Mac: Never Going Back Again
Rascals: Good Lovin'
Rush: The Spirit Of Radio
Beatles: All My Loving
Van Halen: 5150
Red Hot Chili Peppers: Under The Bridge, The Zephyr Song
Metallica: Hero Of The Day
Black Sabbath: Killing Yourself To Live
Joe Walsh: In The City
You'll learn how to move these shapes around the neck, the underlying music theory, and a brief look at other C-shape chord types (minor, 7th, 9th, etc). The second part of the video is a lesson on how to use this shape in "Crazy Train" and "Good Lovin'", along with a short segment of "Never Going Back Again", played really slowly, with camera focused on pick hand, to try and show the "travis picking" technique used in that song.
The chord shapes shown in this video are some of the many chord, riff and lick shapes you can find in my free web app "The Building Blocks Of Rock", available here:

It's just a web page, all you have to do is open it. Nothing to download, and you don't need to sign up for anything.
Please leave any comments or questions. I do read them all!

Where was this 45 years ago!?!?! This man is doing the lords work with these lessons! Thanks!
For real! Or even just two years ago.
Dude is a saint!
I can't say it enough, it's the best guitar instruction channel on UA-cam.
You will have many, many subscribers soon. I have been playing a very long time and you have shown me some new stuff. Thank you!
This is so helpful.
Trying to promote your channel and site as best I can. There is so many FAR INFERIOR guitar channels out there it's a challenge. Keep it up!!
Great video! Love the format of showing the various chord shapes and using well known song examples to show their application.
Thank you so much for the good work you are doing!
You are appreciated! :-)
I am a huge fan of this man's work! The chording section of Crazy Train is underrated and doesn't get the attention it deserves compared to the main riff. Nice to know some theory behind it since 5th string root notes are so prevalent in 80s metal and rock riffs that I like to play
Thank you. This helps a lot. The full caged triads makes my head hurt. But seeing it in the context of songs, very nice
Love your explanation on the chord shapes. Please do more of these!
Always an inspiration, brother. Jon
Thank you for a great lesson!!!! I learned a lot!!!
Another great one!
You are the real deal, man. Hope you get the attention you deserve.
Thank you! Your channel fantastic! 👍😊

DUDE!! Where have U been??
WOOHOOOOO!!!! NEW BUILDING BLOCKS OF ROCK JUST DROPPED!!!!!
Just think your channel,............. is AWESOME! I do have a problem though, when i do a open C chord, my index always mutes out the G string, any idea how i can get the G to sound open?
Middle finger above G string can also be a culprit. Try lowering thumb position and use tips of fingers to fret, it helped me.
Some guitars have closer string spacing which makes fat fingers hard to play clean notes
Also Keith Richards
Food as always . From one lessonyou can go to learn fingers adapt to mamy songs
