What a great car story, and what a great Corvette. I remember it took me awhile back in the 70’s, to gain a liking for a two-toned Corvette of this nature. My original thinking was that two-toned paint schemes always belonged on luxury cars, not sports cars. Of course, I have since changed the mind. This a beautiful Corvette and it just eggs me on to still wanting one. Thanks Lou & Dave for great Tuesday treat!
I love the backstory as much as I love this Vette!! I never owned any Vettes but I touched a few with my own wittle hands. And - well - it still wasn't as satisfying as I'm sure actually owning and driving one would be. A super addition to, My car Story., Lou!!! Massive Thumbs Up!!!
the silver anniversary scheme was really good looking and effectively showed the lines of the car. I test drove an anniversary corvette, back in the day, with a red interior, but with this color interior, you can never wear jeans or drive with dirty hands! I now have an earlier C3...wish my headlights opened and closed as well as this one. beautiful
Great looking Corvette. The birthday poster came to life and He is living out his boyhood dream with that car. That was a great story with all the trunk in treats also. Thanks Lou!
This '78 is fantastic! The Pace Cars get alot of attention, but the stripe kits on these ones are classy. I can see why Dave wanted one for his birthday. Heck, what young guy wouldn't? I'm so glad he eventually got the car & kept the poster. Thanks, Lou!

Por último, un excelente trabajo de cámara, que nos hace apreciar al vehículo en los mejores ángulos posibles... Ah, y un Hermoso recorrido, al final, por el desierto. ¡Saludos cordiales!
Hi, Lou! Anyone who has a Corvette of any vintage has to feel fortunate, but Dave must feel doubly so having the original billboard ad to go with it! And that, folks, is why this show is titled "My Car Story". Well, Lou, you know what they say, good things come to those who wait! Many thanks to you and Dave for the ride and for showing off the billboard and all those cool promo items!
Lou this 'Vette is impeccable throughout especially as all original. I always liked the styling of this model with the T-top/targa roofline and the fastback rear glass - good symmetry and flow from all angles. Additionally, the factory slotted deep dish wheels are really handsome. The '70's era of engine pollution hardware puts the chassis ahead of the motor performance. Nonetheless - really nice example!
Take a 2x2 stick of wood about 4 feet long and press it to the water pump on one end and ur ear on the other. You can hear right inside various parts of the motor clear as day!
I have the MONOGRAM 1/8th scale model of this car. It's unassembled and comes molded in Orange. I will build it as the S/A in memory of my friend who had one.
Hats off to Dave for breaking it away from it's posterchild. Well Lou you did it! You found my childhood to teenage family car. My father bought one new in 78'. I was 7. I can still remember the day I came home and saw it in the backyard. I couldn't believe it. We lived in a rural town so my little brother (5) and I hopped in, he sat in the back under the bubble window and we went out on the highway up to 100+ mph. We were quite excited little boys lol. (Two kids in Kindergarten-Grade 3 age can ride back there no problem) . My dads Silver anni had the L-82 motor with the 4boltmains and 225hp. It had the black valvecovers with the brushed fins and corvette logos with a chrome dual snorkel aircleaner. Had an "L-82" badge on the hood buldge also. The interior waa black. Around 1980 dad got tired of the L-82 and ordered a crate L-T1 longblock 70'version from GM which was still doable then and swapped that into the Vette. It had an Edelbrock intake and Blackjack headera, no cats etc. It was crazy. (for 80"-86'era anyways) He won money with it. Our little town had an early 80's not so rich version of Street outlaws goin' on. Couldn't keep Cv joints in it. It sounded like a 70' Vette but louder. I remember he would get home from work (60mile hwy drive) and turn the lights off in the garage and show my brother & I the headers glowing red. lol The original L-82 block & heads sat under the basement steps by my bedroom door till' I grew up and moved away. I always loved riding in it. The view looking forward from your camera really brought me back to my youth. This was a good one!!!! Thanks Lou.
Wow, what a complete collection centered around this fantastic car, that billboard is amazing!!! I remember when the 78 Vette hit the streets and my friends and I were so excited each time we saw a Pace Car edition!!! This 25th Anniversary edition looks so sleek in the two-tone silver with oyster interior!!! The youth pastor at the church I went to, (1st United Methodist, Niceville, Florida), had one of these cars and it was a bronze/brown color, I remember those badges for sure. Good one Lou!!!

I asked for a Viper once and got a Matchbox or Hotwheels special version with real rubber tires and working hood!! I had the small block 83 Firebird and a wrecked 82 Recaro T/A I parted out. Beautiful Corvette Lou. There's one like it that sits down the road from my house under some pine trees. the 78 Corvette in silver (for whatever reason), 78 Z28 in yellow and the 78 Cadillac Coupe DeVille were my favorites in the late 70s along with the 77 Trams Am as featured in Smokey and the Bandit

I have my respects for every company before the 90s, even AMC and all the other lemon companies
Unless I missed it you never talked about the engine and performance. In high school back in the mid 80s I had a '78 Corvette with the terrible L48 , which I replaced with a more legit 350 engine. Unless I'm mistaken, the Anniversary model came with the L82 with a "whopping" 220 HP. Such a shame. That Vette probably couldn't beat the average modern passenger car or pickup in a drag race.

I was looking to buy one of these (25th) that was about 5 years old at the time. It had a red interior in it and a bit more miles than Dave's. The dealer undervalued my trade-in in a huge way and my insurance company doubled my quote, and needless to say I did not get the car. Nor did I get any of the Vette-loving chicks in L.A. Especially not Farah. Or either Heather. Oh gawd I'm such a loser.
Just thought I'd let you know that I did watch the entire ad for the Mazda CX-something even though I would never buy such an ugly thing. I think I'm one of the few who likes the glass-back Vettes. I think that's what they were called.

Silver Anniversary Corvette!! AWESOME! Vettes RULE! American Muscle! 🥳👍🏾😆🤟🏾🇺🇸🤣
Hi Gmoney, Happy Anniversary :-) Lou
Very beautiful T-Top - Great Memorabilia - I was never a 'Vette Fan, after my Boss would let me borrow his 454 / Auto sometimes, and it would about burn your feet off in Florida summer ... but this car is lovely .
Hi Pierre, Cool Boss :-) Glad you think this car is "lovely", Lou
@@loucostabile My job at the time was to drive a square Chevy Van up & down Daytona Beach, ring a bell, and sell Straw Hats - lol . getting old is tough, but the wealth of memories is priceless ...
the 78 Corvette in silver (for whatever reason), 78 Z28 in yellow and the 78 Cadillac Coupe DeVille were my favorites in the late 70s along with the 77 Trams Am as featured in Smokey and the Bandit
HI Sabba_Dabba, Good ones :-) Thank you for sharing, Lou

Beautiful 💕
:-)
Cool 78 Vette Memorabilia too!!
Lots of treats with this car :-)
Nice Vette. My fave style that was a high point for Corvette. These look better than C4 to C8s. Too bad the power wasn't great to match the style. Thanks Dave & Lou! (The story over birthday request was cool too)
Hi Pat, High praise for this design :-) Glad you enjoy the story too, and you're welcome, Lou
Great Car! Great History! Thank you, Lou!! 🏳️🌈
Hi Bryan, Happy to read you enjoy this "great" car & history :-) You're welcome, Lou
Awesome Vette!!.. I have a buddy that has one of these with 20k original miles ...

Another great video. Doesn’t sound like the owner uses it much. Did I see a 1979-81 Trans Am and a Herbie Beatle in his garage??
Hi Vincent, Happy to read you enjoy this video. You're right, the Owner takes it out occasionally. Here it that Trans Am. Enjoy, Lou ua-cam.com/video/ESljEomWUNU/v-deo.html

@@loucostabile Yeah I love older cars more than I do newer cars. I especially love Corvettes, impalas, Camaro's, Belairs, mainly the older chevys, I've even have an original press Corvette model/concept poster from 52-84, my dream car is a 63 split window c2.

Hi 413x398, Happy to read you were looking for a car like this :-) Sorry about Farrah & Heather :-( Thank you for viewing and sharing, Lou
You’re not a loser at all! LOL!! Dealerships can basically KMA when it comes to trade in value. You did right nonetheless.
@@loucostabile Two Heathers. Locklear and Thomas. Oh gawd I'm a three-time loser.
i like c3 corvette
Hi chris I, Happy to read you enjoy this design :-) Lou
Where did you get the window sticker ? Thanks
Hi Peter, I'm assuming from the Original Owner, so I'm guessing it came with the car at purchase. Lou
@@loucostabile thank you Lou
Bet you couldn't get that billboard poster for $ 11.50 today!!
Probably not :-)
How can I get a poster like that?
eBay?
Just thought I'd let you know that I did watch the entire ad for the Mazda CX-something even though I would never buy such an ugly thing. I think I'm one of the few who likes the glass-back Vettes. I think that's what they were called.
Hi Warner Bauer, Thank you for being patient watching the ad and supporting the Channel. Happy to read you enjoy this car, Lou
