Pity people get so very, very critical when they don't like one thing about a video. I agree, I probably wouldn't walk around the back with the motor running (whether in gear or not), but other than that there are a few good tips here. First video I've found about launching solo where it's not a perfectly calm, windless day.
All well and good with a self centering roller trailer. Standard bunkers are much more difficult to use. Also is this not an aluminum boat (much lighter than fiberglass or obviously wood). I would strongly suggest he put a line on the boat in case the winch strap parts or otherwise fails.
Now, I favor bunkers basically because I've always used them. Why and are roller trailers better? It looks like the keel hits the trailer pretty good on some retrievals.
I’ve got a queen tracks myself it’s a great motor and are used to have an even read but I’ve got a 15 Merc on it at the moment but personal preference which console boats is probably an early craft pop had an early craft 610 coastal with the 140 Suzuki and let me tell you that handled like better than any boat that I’ve driven and I’ve driven a few boats now and they’re all at multiple different brands so my recommendation is either Quinn tracks but most of all Ali craft
That's a good tip, of course if the wind is blowing lateral you may have a tussle, still even then it should work. I face a similar situation, no dock parallel to the boat when I put her in. But the other difference is pretty cold water and a steep drop off. What I just saw, which is pretty cool is a custom welded boarding ladder--welded to the trailer tongue. You back the boat down, get it very close to the float off point--be damn sure you have first emergency brake, backed up by park gear position--I put in a chock too. Then climb the tongue to the ladder, your weight insures the bow is pinned down as you mount the bow. Then back out normally, and never need to get wet. In warm conditions, that isn't needed but where I launch, it is a good idea. Then again, I do try to avoid boating alone whenever possible.
Fortunately I have a drive on trailer for my bass boat. I drop the tailgate on the truck unhook the strap and step onto the bow. To re-trailer just do the opposite. I never get my feet wet. windy or not. hot cold rain snow whatever.
So that motor was in gear, correct? A few people might have issue with that as they may not be experienced as the chap in the video. Good information just the same.
Darren, what's the going rate to change bearings at Caloundra Marine? And repairing rust. Why don't you explain to people that putting the bearings under will stuff the bearings / brakes / wheels? No matter how well you wash them. Most people won't know to check their bearings regularly so will end up standing by the highway wondering wtf went wrong when a trailer wheel falls off. Living the dream!
Thanks mate. I don't know if Quintrex have lifted their game. Last boat I bought had a Rex Hunt DVD showing new Quintrex owners how to drown a trailer. (Love the videos btw. I'll be up for a new Busta soon.)
I think you should explain to people why the side rails on a Busta are so important too - i.e. so you can stand up in a seaway and not fall out of the boat. Not too many new buyers will understand that and the Busta is a much better boat with them.
Shortly after making this video Carl chopper off his LEFT leg, now they call him " HOPPY ". His only regret is that he DIDN'T read the feedback comments. from Isaac Conley. LOL... I'm with you Isaac. :-)
You also should never walk behind the motor like that in shallow water - running or not. One good wave will pick that boat up and drop the prop right down on your leg or foot. A really good wave will push the boat on top of you and drag you under it. Dangerous practice all around.
I'm an Aussie boatie, but not all of us would do it this Crocodile Dundee / Steve Irwin way. I don't like my feet wet or the chance of the propeller slashing me. Interesting though.
The only time I'm launching without a dock is when it's early fishing season and the water temps 36°. Show me how to do that without getting wet and I'll be impressed.
I think its a good video, however although the motor is in neutral,I would be a little apprehensive doing that, and its not easy for me as I have a bilateral knee replacement,it's the hardest thing I have to do is bring the boat back on the trailer, especially down here in Shoalhaven Heads we get a lot of N/East winds about 11:30., but I am working on making it easier by working on the trailer set up...after watching this a few times, I noticed that you did not have a cut out wrist strap,no life jacket...and that running motor????...a little Gang Ho for me, although taking the boat off and on is good, but as a previous Safety Officer many years ago I would have to fail you,no offence intended, but accidents do happen.
There was a time when boat trailers had outriggers. Retrieving a boat from the beach was a doddle because the outriggers helped centre the boat. Should still have them today. Especially in queensland, where the government hates building good launch facilities.
Nothing wrong with what he did , when your on your own and its windy best thing to do is start the motor so you know it's going, nothing worse than pushing the boat out and then having trouble starting the motor with wind blowing you could end up on rocks or banging into another boat.
With an Evinrude on the back I would have expected him to change his top containing a Suzuki on his back. I do not agree that a boat with an OUTBOARD or an OUTDRIVE at the back, is gutless. Far from it. In fact you have absolute control with an outboard/outdrive at the back as it goes where you steer it when going back. When going forward , unless one has a bow thruster, in the wind the bow will drop with the wind. Now with an inboard engine and normal rudder, true enough the boat is gutless, unless of course one has a bow thruster where when in reverse one could steer with the bow thruster. With an inboard and a shaft drive I often use reverse and to correct I go ahead in bursts with the right rudder application and then back to reverse. It works and it is not gutless at all. With Twin inboard engines one can go sideways too applying a combination of reverse on one engine , and forward on the other with a selection of rudder control. One has to concentrate but it can be done. Yes I did say SIDEWAYS.
If you were listening and watching the video closely you would have noticed when the driver was referring to "reversing" being gutless he was talking about the situation from 2:10 onwards, firstly, he is in very shallow water so the motor is trimmed to the point where only the water intake is submerged which leaves the engine tilted relatively high. Secondly, in that position forward thurst has more "bite" in the propeller due to the simple fact that the prop is grabbing water from infront as opposed to reverse which it would be grabbing BOTH water & AIR due to the fact its tilted skyward, hence in relation to his situation he correctly terms it "gutless". Not until 3:35 does he indicate the engine is being trimmed down, and yes at that point a outboard is NOT gutless in reverse.

Worst mistake you could possibly do is entering a boat while the motor is operating, especially if the propeller is spinning. Not trying to be rude or anything, i was just looking out for your safety :). All the best.
Pip Aussie We'd never put an engine in gear when someone is outside, You're right THATS no safe. If you watch closely Daz puts it in gear when he gets inside.
You also should never walk behind the motor like that in shallow water - running or not. One good wave will pick that boat up and drop the prop right down on your leg or foot. A really good wave will push the boat on top of you and drag you under it. Dangerous practice all around.
"And you won't have to go the gym". He may have to given his struggle to climb into the boat from the stern. Spare tyre got in the way there. Good video though!
This is a dangerous practice all around. You might get away with this in nice conditions with a really small boat. But if a wave comes through while you are behind that boat, it will pick that stern up and drop a sharp prop down the front of your leg or on your foot. Even if the motor was not running, that is dangerous. If a really good wave surprises you, that boat could get picked up, take you off your feet, and you knocked underneath it. I have seen it happen. It's all meaningless to me as my boat weighs 6K lbs. dry.
+Ivan Flores it's the truck you own when you need something to dip in salt water day in day out for 10 years ..... It's not like you want the range rover doing that every day.
My favourite bit is how much your head changes shape at around the 3 minute mark onwards...
Lol!
Rod Reguez LMFAO
He couldn't have done such a smashing video without that techno music No Way Mate 😎

I love it when you try to push the boat from the stern with the engine on 👌
In neutral so prop won’t be spinning obviously
It's not that dangerous.
I read somewhere you are not to get near the propeller with the motor On. Only when the motor is switch off.
Thanks Mate! Great ADvice
Tnx Mate! I'll be launching on a rocky beach tomorrow morning in US Washington state HOOD CANAL peninsula .
Very light boat! Almost as if you can just pick it up and simply walk it out of the water! Cheers from Boston MA
Good job mate you make it look so easy thank you very much 😅😊
Thanks mate, good info for us newbies.
Thanks Rob, More tips and tricks to come
Love your work mate Paul from Victoria keep the youtube coming thanks
When you climb over the transom there is a good chance you'll put your foot weight onto the steering cable, cracking the outer cover.
Really appreciated that. Cheers. Very helpful!

Great tips, Great video. Well done and Thanks.
straight to the point ...nice one mate!!

Nice boat mate
Aussies love their Evinrudes like we like the Yammies. Did that guy just walk up the transom bare footed with the boat moving and motor running?
It wasn't in gear
getting a boat is on my mind...but i would like to know, would an Astro Van haul a boat?
Fortunately I have a drive on trailer for my bass boat. I drop the tailgate on the truck unhook the strap and step onto the bow. To re-trailer just do the opposite. I never get my feet wet. windy or not. hot cold rain snow whatever.
This video looks great
That's Queensland I think I drove past u and saw the camera and the boat
Yep ..... we're in Caloundra

What model potato was used to film this
What song is this?
Wow! How light is that boat? How the hell can you winch it in with the trailer that far outta the water?
look at that... one hand.... next minute... 2 hands... lol... great video mate. cheers

Very good job 👍
its fast an low on gas to, its will do the job well, good luck
Darren it's only a tinny...
I don't think it's going to make it to Fiji.....
And how long does it take for you to launch a boat?
Ashley Walford Those E-tecs are pretty efficient ..... we reckon you'd get there and have enough to go fishing :-)
I put a 10,000 lbs wench on my Tracker And that thing is a beast
wouldn't catch me entering the back while running.
Isaac Conley the prop isn't spinning
That's like saying the gun isn't loaded.
Shortly after making this video Carl chopper off his LEFT leg, now they call him " HOPPY ". His only regret is that he DIDN'T read the feedback comments. from Isaac Conley. LOL... I'm with you Isaac. :-)

I have the same trailer. My question is would it be able to retrieve the boat up off dry sand? Cheers.
MAGNU8 Yes .... but you use a different technique ... we will make a video on that subject really soon
Did you record this with a potato ?
3:30
His head is making me seasick lol !

I think I have been reversing the trailer in too far. This looks easier for sure
Is this guys head morphing??
slick trailer
Nice video......
"One hand, anyone can do it. Its just how you approach it. But when it gets tough, use two hands."
would not do this when water temp in low 40s and air n the 40s
Im always worried my boat floats away while im parking the trailer
Me too
I’ve Ben unloading myself for years 😮
What about for a 3200lb boat
nice vid,the only thing i can fault in it is that you guys are not wearing your PFDs,lets promote safe boating out there.peace.
not on my boat...everybody wears them other wise they stay behind.
@@firestompa ewww glad I'm not on your boat what a pain
next minit crock grabs ya in the northern boat ramps ,entering through the back of the boat while running not for me,good trailer but
NO ROPE to the Pier in case it just floats away!!!!! WOW!!!! Entering from the rear!!!!
It's safer to enter from behind and it's taught in Australia when you are learning for your boat licence.
Took me whole minute to realize he was speaking English. Lol.
AVALY T hahahaha

That boat looked supper light..no way I could unload in the shallow of water..but it is a cool boat
I don't always trailer my boat with my bimini top up... but when I do, I film UA-cam videos.
Video had me checking my drink -_-
was that English?
No its Strine (Australian English)
Most of us Canadians drive them on the trailer. We hate to get wet.
They sink the truck and the boat and 2 other pickups and 2 tractors. Lol

No kill switch cord on your wrist??
Thought you left foot was a gonner. Your routine works for you mate apart from nearly loosing a foot
'
this white truck can use a shift transmission -- N -- while backward to the water...
dont need to use a shift transmission -- R --
Thought I was having acid flashbacks for a second.

TopPredator Beast You are right ..... if you look closely Daz gets in the boat and THEN puts it in gear .... That is perfectly safe
Oh my gosh!
Back to celluloid filmmaking!
😂
When he boarded from the rear I thought he struggled to get in. Too many beers 🍺 being carried at the mid section.
Well this looks real safe'' in the water at the rear of the boat, with the motor running and in gear'' LMFAO!
Pip Aussie We'd never put an engine in gear when someone is outside, You're right THATS no safe. If you watch closely Daz puts it in gear when he gets inside.
That's a lovely accent. Let me guess, New Jersey?
bighum70 No mate ... we're Aussies
You oughtta be special if you think he was from New Jersey...
He did say " Pawk the caw". That sounds New Jersey.
South Africaaan maybe mate.
Definitely not!
How to NOT launch a boat 101. Walking up the back of a boat with a running motor. Jesus Christ.
It wasn't in gear so the prop wasn't spinning
portscan69 like this noob
You also should never walk behind the motor like that in shallow water - running or not. One good wave will pick that boat up and drop the prop right down on your leg or foot. A really good wave will push the boat on top of you and drag you under it. Dangerous practice all around.
the prop doesn't spin because it isn't in gear
What does God have to do with this?
"And you won't have to go the gym". He may have to given his struggle to climb into the boat from the stern. Spare tyre got in the way there. Good video though!
We are going
You should put the handle in neutral so it doesn't spin like a helicopter blade and take off someones face.
Jeff Fleischman it was you noob
I think this guy is a shape shifter
How about doing a video of how to Launch your boat by yourself but with out getting WET LOL
Did he ever stop talking? Watched with the sound off, his mouth never stopped lol
Hahaha....the winch rope unwound from the reel...
Fail
This is a dangerous practice all around. You might get away with this in nice conditions with a really small boat. Not a good approach in cold water!
yea not cool starterd motor that's badass
easy retrieve..
The choice of music (noise) is horrible. You will drive more away than you will attract. Just saying......
your face keeps going big and small when you look at the camera, and I would not put my foot where the prop is
your truck is horrendous. what the hell is that thing?!
+Ivan Flores it's the truck you own when you need something to dip in salt water day in day out for 10 years ..... It's not like you want the range rover doing that every day.
Yeah Daz has his training truck that's used in this video. And we have the crew cab commodore as well.
shut the "music"off
this is only for motorboats. wtf
As propagandas tamparam boa parte da imagem !
