Big fan of Horror in the High Desert series of movies. Love how it's basically framed as a 20/20 style show about a one of those guys who does videos about surviving in a desert talking about seeing something freaky deep in the desert and when everyone doubts him decides to shoot a video proving what he saw. The way it's shot makes you think it's just a true crime doc but then turns into something more. Then the sequel is sort of meta involving people searching for the first dude they saw in the movie.

I loved “Horror In The High Desert”, and also really enjoyed the sequel. The sequel perhaps a bit less, but it’s still a really eerie movie, and I’m eagerly awaiting the third entry. I’m incredibly interested to find out more about the creatures/ monsters/ desert weirdos, whatever they might be. The thing that I found to be the most ominously intriguing in the original was the music coming from the cabin that DW (Desert Weirdo) lives in. I can hear it in my head if I try, and it’s probably been around six months since I saw it last. It sounds like some kind of a ritualistic call, as if to summon some entity or otherworldly being. The vibrato in the voice and the fact that you can’t tell what it’s saying just makes it extra spooky. In the sequel it was the stories being told about other people’s experiences with groups of DWs, and that “they aren’t people”- yikes. Sometimes it’s just a single incident or sentence that I find to be what elevates the movie to another level. The movie “Savageland”, even though there was no video or footage of the killings, was made so much creepier by simple black and white still images that were grainy and vague. They conveyed a sense of panic and immediate danger that an ultra-detailed high quality video just normally wouldn’t.
