Instead of asking the newbies if they liked the episode or not, you should ask them how they feel about the characters so far. Who's their favourite so far, who they don't like and why. It helps them think about the narritive instead of focusing on the rest of your guys's expectations of them to fall in love with the show.
The thing is that it IS a kid's show, so technically the majority of us aren't the target audience. But I think the fact that it's an enjoyable watch as an adult, even though it takes till season 2 and 3 to get REALLY invested in the plot and characters, is still pretty amazing to me. Not a lot of shows for kids can pull that off!
As a huge fan of the show , I completely understand where Ryleigh and Halleigh are coming from . The first season IS childish , cause that was it's audience. That doesn't mean it doesn't have great moments, it does , but other than that you grow to see the mastery of the first season after you finish the show , because you appreciate the simpler times of the beginning and the word building. Everything just ties so well together but it takes time , so relax and enjoy the show
Season 1 is actually really good in hindsight. It lays the foundations of the world and its characters. But without that hindsight it is easy to assume that this show is no different from any other children's TV show. Especially when the show has been hyped up so much it's easy to see why newcomers might feel like they have been deceived.
Are we forgetting episode 12 upcoming or that we also saw plenty of dead bodies as well had Aang realize the fact of Genocide in episode 3? Episode 4 had a village attacked and set on fire because of Aang not bothering to try to hide his presence. Heck, I could think of several more upcoming examples in this first season, but I can't spoiler anything to dispose of this ridiculous argument. There's a difference between "more childish" and "childish". The first season still has its adult episodes and themes just as both the second and third seasons still have the occasional light-hearted episodes.
@@remo27 Nobody disagrees that there are adult themes. But the general consensus is that the first season compared to season 2 and season 3 is definitely more childish. Which is true. The themes and stories get a lot deeper and darker.
@@FranciscoHOS I disagree that there are any 'darker' themes than freaking genocide, and we get confronted with that in the THIRD episode. Perhaps YOU could tell me which "THEME" in the second or third season is 'darker'? It's one thing to say the 'tone' of the season 1 is mostly more lighthearted, it's another to claim that the 'themes' of season 2 or season 3 are any darker or more 'adult'. In fact, most of the 'themes' from season 2 and 3 just pick up from season 1.
Katara doesn’t know any other way to care for someone. She’s motherly towards Aang, because of his past, and taking care of Sokka. She’s just built like that.
I know this sounds bad, but hang in there newcomers. The first season is a slow burn... coming from someone who didn't watch this until he was a 27 year old adult. It's definitely a little kid-ish, but each subsequent season ties back to season 1, and they are absolutely worth the wait. It took me a month to get through season 1, a couple episodes at a time, just like you are. It's worth it, I promise... outstanding video!!!

I feel like if your watching atla as a late teen or adult without nostalgia bias s1 definitely feels more childish but it gets more mature and tackles dark themes in the later season . Hope you guys watch korra cuz they tackle way more dark themes
I love how every one watching avatar completely forgets that aang is confronted with his races genocide at 12 years old, but he’s childish when he keeps on laughing and living life.🤔
One thing that I think makes this show so good, is that it not only gives you a simple and solid goal/plot, but also a time limit. The comet changes everything we probably thought of so far, and puts pressure on every decision made. Time is limited and every day spent running is a day lost that you could have been training or preparing or fighting. It gives Aang that much more potential with development, as he is forced to become one of the youngest fully-realized avatars to exist because of a world war he woke up to.
Gek fishing so hard for impressions from the newcomers to the series is affecting how they see the show. All of us who have seen and grew up with atla know why we love it so much. But, being an outsider and seeing people gush sooo much over a kids show (which atla S1 definitely is) with its corny childish humor gives a forced vibe. As in, "like this because everyone loves it so you should too." You can't force people to love something as much as you do. If they like you and like hanging out with you they may feel pressured to just say they like it because they see it means so much to you. Just keep that in mind. Keep up the great content 💛
Can't wait for their reactions to The Storm. For me, that pivots the show in a more mature direction than is previously presented. The parallel between Zuko and Aang is drawn and we first begin to sympathise with Zuko too. On rewatches, I sometimes skip episodes 5-9.
That moment where your little sister threw over the mic was actually so adorable. She was so honestly concerned about it and seemed like she immediately felt super bad to do anything bad for her big brothers.
Bruh, I randomly clicked on this video and straight up did a double take when I heard "LLOYD GARMADON!" I love Ninjago but it was the furthest thing on my mind when watching this channel for Avatar and Attack on Titan reactions. You're awesome for not only mentioning but initiating a whole conversation about it Addie! Major respect! Also, if you're looking for another series to watch, I highly recommend Ninjago seasons 8 (Sons of Garmadon). It was designed as an entry/reentry point for new and old fans. The best way I can describe it is "next level Ninjago" as they take the familiar characters and setting of Ninjago and ramp up the intensity and grit. The writing quality for the season is unreal, way better than a show about Lego Ninja has any right to be. Honestly, it's one of the best written seasons of any tv show I've ever seen. The symbolism, pacing, motifs, foreshadowing, and themes are legit incredible and it's perfect for fans of OG Ninjago who want to see something more mature done with the characters. (Plus Lloyd is like the best character in those seasons, if it helps convince you Addie!)
Y’all inspired me to get my nieces watching. I tried with the older one a few years ago but she was shook by the fire nation in ep 1. She’s almost nine now n the other is a tough four so its gang time. Shoutout to yall 🫡
Keep in mind that some of the cheesiness was to please Nickolodeon execs who tend to underestimate the intelligence of kids. The later episodes of season 1 and then season 2 they get away with darker themes. Then in season 3 they really get cooking because it's the Book of Fire. Season 3 also gives us THE best recap episode in all of animation.

There are too many people on that couch that know about the show and keep talking over. You are putting too much pressure on the newbies and prevent them from enjoying it for themselves. Just let them feel however they feel about it.
So season 1 is the most chill season because it starts off like the OG dragon ball peaceful vibe. And then like seasons 2 to 3 it feels more like the intense arc of Naruto Shippuden

Kudo's to Ryleigh for being supportive af about Cannon's interests even though she's clearly not into it (yet). Only a matter of time. Also, Addie being drawn to damn near tears when Roku shows up is proof positive that she's 10000% Carter's sister lmao
I don’t know if any of you will read this, but this is what I would like to say specifically to Ryleigh and Halleigh. You may have a hard time getting into it because it doesn’t seem as hype as everyone makes it seem. You have to remember that, first, this is a cartoon. On Nickelodeon. It’s aimed at kids so it’s cheesy and goofy at first. Young adults watched this young and have nostalgia for it. At the same time, they obviously wanted to write a story any age could appreciate. So you guys talk a lot when you see things. But if you pay attention to certain nuances, you’ll notice there’s a history behind a lot of it that makes some of this more hype feeling for those who know what it relates to such as the significance of Avatar Roku, the Avatar State (which isn’t even a spoiler because you don’t know what that is). Iroh seems cheerful but he was a general who lead a siege for 600 days. He can also see spirits. Why? Why was Aang gone for 100 years? Why is there a war? Katara and Sokka’s mom was killed. It’s not that crazy hype moments happen. (Although they do). It’s that the story is written well and, in hindsight, it’s better knowing how the story feels as a whole.
This comment needs to be pinned. Honestly, this isn't a show that really benefits from being watched as a group, especially for your first watch, especially when the group likes to talk. Why? Because it doesn't have hype moments, nor some crazy visuals and actions sequences, and for all intents and purposes, it is still a kid's cartoon. Much of the storytelling is nuanced and subtle and you kinda have to actively see past all the "childishness" of the show to see some of its more mature themes, something that's hard to do in a group watch. Underneath all the goofiness and cartoon like elements is a beautiful, endearing story with great characters and worldbuilding and it becomes one of those shows that's not remembered for any specific episode but is loved as a summation of what it accomplishes. So yeah, this entire project may have been the wrong approach to introduce someone to the show sadly.
@@terrykim2748 Perhaps. Or maybe a smaller group. I think it’s partially also due to the ratio of people who’ve seen it vs those who haven’t. I tried to stick to surface level descriptions and episode titles because they’re too vague to be spoilers but I’m sure you know exactly what I’m referring to and maybe even got just a pinch emotional reading through it. lol I think it’s how the show pulls on those emotions that they’ll realize they really grew fond of the world and characters.
For me, ATLA doesn't get "WHOA IM HOOKED" until the second half of season 2 and DEFINITELY season 3. Season one had its epic moments but imo the show really shines in its later episodes 😊
13:20 its cool that we get the answer to why zukos crew is so loyal. its because he spoke out of turn at a war meeting that got him banished. He spoke about that crew being led to death in a war maneuver. Zuko saved their lives and they were banished with him.
How I rank the seasons S1 1st half - 7/10 S1 2nd half - 8.5/10 S2 1st half - 9/10 S2 2nd half - 9/10 S3 1st half - 8.5/10 S3 2nd half - 9.5/10 I think the blue spirit and the storm episodes are where th show really steps up, the first half of the first season is really not great unless youre just comparing to other kids shows imo
Idk it’s not that the first half’s not great the way I see it it just does it’s best to expand and set up the world of avatar and introduce characters that’ll become important later other then the stakes not feeling as high and the humour being a little more childish it’s still fun to watch
@@Hunts-so1jb I think for me it's a few things- the story, characters and the world of avatar are still being developed but besides being more childish I think the pacing is a bit iffy at times, it rushes through things at time yet because it doesnt establish a clear overarching narrative it feels like it isnt going anywhere fast (partly because we dont know yet how the early episodes tie in later on), the best of the music and especially the animation are yet to come, many of the best characters are still yet to come as well. I still think it's a very good show for a nickelodeon cartoon, but the reason it's stood the test of time is where it goes after the first half of S1
The only “issue” with Book 1 is that it’s much more focused on building the world and the stakes rather than the narrative like 2 & 3 are. It’s still a really good season but it lacks the gripping hooks of Book 2 and Book 3 due to its more sporadic location-hopping and just getting to know the Gaang as they travel to the North Pole. The Book 1 finale is when the storytelling really ramps up and keeps its foot on the gas for the rest of the show. When I first watched I took quite a few breaks while watching through Book 1, but as soon as I finished it, I binged through the rest of the show as fast as possible because of how gripping the story was.
You gotta explain the context of the show in it’s time to them. When it first came out on Nickelodeon the show runners didn’t even know if it’d be picked up for another season so that’s why the first season is full of episodes that were like the other Nickelodeon shows where there wasn’t an overall story from episode to episode. I’d say from this last episode and on the creators really knew the story arc well and actually had the creative liberty to make it happen. Which is why this show is so damn good from here on out
Season 1 is great, season 2 is great. But season 3… best final season to any show I’ve watched so far regarding satisfaction after it’s over. Hope the girls find something to latch onto to really enjoy this one!
What's gooood my guys, it's been two weeks! Could you like bring out a schedule if possible? From all the shows you are reacting to and estimated dates on which you will upload them? Hate waiting without a date to look forward to D: THX dudes!
Season 1 gives a foundation to the characters that is only appreciated later on, by which time one has a full understanding of the backgrounds, characters, the _world_ - and the motivations for everyone, so ultimately we become that much more invested in the story.
Im genuinely curious what jackson was talking about referring to a sneak peak to something in korra? My only guess was referring to jinora and her abilities but im not sure
Watching only two episodes a week is gonna partially ruin the experience. People should binge watch each season would give it a better viewing experience.
Instead of asking the newbies if they liked the episode or not, you should ask them how they feel about the characters so far. Who's their favourite so far, who they don't like and why. For me, ATLA doesn't get "WHOA IM HOOKED" until the second half of season 2 and DEFINITELY season 3. Season one had its epic moments but imo the show really shines in its later episodes 😊
definitely a slow burn for some people
Can't wait for things to get more serious. 😂
do you guys have a upload schedule for this series
13:20 its cool that we get the answer to why zukos crew is so loyal. its because he spoke out of turn at a war meeting that got him banished. He spoke about that crew being led to death in a war maneuver. Zuko saved their lives and they were banished with him.
How I rank the seasons
S1 1st half - 7/10
S1 2nd half - 8.5/10
S2 1st half - 9/10
S2 2nd half - 9/10
S3 1st half - 8.5/10
S3 2nd half - 9.5/10
I think the blue spirit and the storm episodes are where th show really steps up, the first half of the first season is really not great unless youre just comparing to other kids shows imo
S1.1 - 7.5
S1.2 - 9
S2.1 - 9.5
S2.2 - 10
S3.1 - 8.5
S3.2 - 9.5
season 2 is goated. the only miss is avatar day and the ba sing se arc is too perfect.
For Ryleigh and Halleigh's sake, I really hope you guys straight up SKIP The Great Divide episode. Nothing will bore them more.
I love his addie is zukos biggest fan so far xD
22:18 It Will pull you in, just wait! If season 1 doesn't do it for you, 2 and 3 definitely will, 10000% guaranteed.
Season 2 is where it gets sooo much better. And they are going to LOVE azula lol
LETS GOOOOO
They need to get to "The Storm". That's the turning point, because that's the big backstory for both Aang and Zuko
...every girl....every boy....loves....TOTORO💖
Honestly between appa and a dragon I’d chose appa in a heartbeat 100%
Love the series guys !
Which is why this show is so damn good from here on out
Episode 7-8: of appreciating the ladies of Studio Gek (respectfully).
ryleigh looks exactly like my english teacher XD
@@zakichan_draws that’s a cool English teacher.
Season 1 is great, season 2 is great. But season 3… best final season to any show I’ve watched so far regarding satisfaction after it’s over. Hope the girls find something to latch onto to really enjoy this one!
Girl in the yellow looks like the blonde girl from the first live action scooby doo movie
"If you were a character youd be Zuko"
SPOILER
SEASON 1: "How dare you"
SEASON 3: "Thank you"
I feel like this season is mostly lore. It can be kind boring on the first watch through but it really sets up the rest of the show :)
so hyped lets go. keep em coming. just get them through season 1
Im waiting for their reaction to Toph❤
What's gooood my guys, it's been two weeks! Could you like bring out a schedule if possible? From all the shows you are reacting to and estimated dates on which you will upload them? Hate waiting without a date to look forward to D: THX dudes!
Ok i just gotta say after hearing you guys talk about parks and rec i gotta just say carter reminds me so much of ben
Season 1 gives a foundation to the characters that is only appreciated later on, by which time one has a full understanding of the backgrounds, characters, the _world_ - and the motivations for everyone, so ultimately we become that much more invested in the story.
All fun and games until lil bro starts glowing
Im genuinely curious what jackson was talking about referring to a sneak peak to something in korra? My only guess was referring to jinora and her abilities but im not sure
I bet it was Iroh being able to see the spirit dragon
@@Judd2000 hm that could be it
I think he meant Roku bending Lava
Probably lava bending
@@gian4762 I guess that could be it
Hope you guys realised that Iroh could see the Spirits, when everyone else can't
My favourite notification is when this reaction series updates

love these episodes and love Avatar Roku
Iroh is a mood lmao
Watching only two episodes a week is gonna partially ruin the experience. People should binge watch each season would give it a better viewing experience.
Ya they have a crazy busy schedule, we’re trying to line it up to watch way more
@@StudioGekwhen is the next avatar reaction video?
