What a brave Dad to stand up and admit he made a massive mistake, This dangerous and abusive religion is complete fantasy.

Probably not he had an affair left two wives one pregnant with a baby she prayed for for years and she was so traumatized she went immediately into labor.
The other wife was an illegal alien like he himself was but because he divorced her legally he was able to marry a legal citizen and attain citizenship.
This left his illegal wife divorced and penniless with no income and children to care for.
Nothing brave at all. This child has no idea.

Leah was on the very first escaping polygamy season. My heart broke when she said her father was her best friend and could no longer have him in life cuz she ran away from the cult. That's good that he finally saw past the brainwash and chose his daughter over that

I just found you here and have been watching all your videos. Your dad seems so awesome. My dad is still in the AUB but he was very abusive to us and my mother. I dream of having a dad like yours. I’m sure he knows my dad very well. Thank you so much for sharing!!

Dayna Christina Art thank you for watching! It took a long time for my Dad & I to get to where we are, both individually & as a Father & Daughter but I appreciate your comment. I am so sorry your relationship with your Father was a negative one. So many men in the AUB lose sight of the most important part of it - FAMILY. I don’t condone polygamy but I think it’s heartbreaking that a religion that supposedly promotes family does so much to destroy it.

I'm so glad your dad got out. I've been watching the show since the very first episode when you left the AUB, and I honestly didn't expect to see one of your parents following in your footsteps. That is a huge success story that I'm sure you're very proud of, and you have every right to be. I live in southern Idaho, so I'm very familiar with Mormon culture. I had many friends growing up that were LDS (great people, but I'll never be one of them), and I have met a couple of the Lost Boys from the Crick who now live in the area. I'll never have that experience, but my heart goes out to you, and I'm glad you are doing well. Nice work.

I’m so happy for you. I recall watching you on the show and you saying that your dad was your best friend and that basically you were dead to him and it broke my heart, because that was around the same time that my dad had passed away and as cliche as it sounds , he truly was my best friend. I thought to myself how can a dad just cancel out a daughter like that due to a religion but I also realize the amount of brainwashing that comes from those groups. So no hard feelings towards your dad. I’m just so glad that he’s come to the realization and that you are able to have the bond with him again. I’m extremely happy for you.

    • @thetelestialtea

Meca Taylor thank you so much! It was a long & difficult journey, but you are right. Polygamy does have a tendency to brainwash & program it’s followers & it takes a long time to overcome that. I’m grateful that we have come so far since leaving, & I am so sorry about your Dad. I can’t even begin to imagine how hard that must have been for you.

I think it's interesting how all of the doubts he mentions here were about living polygamy and yet those doubts pulled him away from not only all Mormonism but apparently all of Christianity and religion in general. I think most religious people (including LDS people) would agree with his assessment of the polygamist lifestyle not being a way to happiness and peace. But I suppose once one has had such a negative experience in one religious group it is difficult to trust any others.
I love what he said near the end - "I don't disagree with what you're trying to do, I just don't think what you're doing is the way to achieve it." This is the most valid reason to leave any religion - if it isn't doing for you what it is supposed to do (bring happiness, strengthen faith, give you opportunity to serve, etc) then there is no reason to stay. Go find what works for you and brings you happiness and peace.

Barbara Pessell my Dad had two wives when he was a part of Polygamy, but they all split up when he chose to leave. He had five children. Four with one wife & one with another. The other child has been kept from our family because of our choice to leave, but all but one of the children from my Mother are over the age of eighteen & before that, he paid child support & still continues to pay child support for my youngest sibling. My youngest sister lives with him in England, while my other sister & I live here in the States, about five minutes apart from each other.

There is life outside of religion altogether. Teach and example morals and all will be well. Religion sheds more hurt and blood than anything in this world.

    • @-MaryPoppins-
      @-MaryPoppins- 4 роки тому +4

It depends on how and who has taught you hun. Plenty of religious people do good, plenty non religious so good as well. I grew up in a home where religion was never pushed down our throats, though we were all Christened in the Bulgarian Orthodox Church. I grew up to love god. Not fear him. Just as I did with my parents. I don’t work the soup kitchen out of fear of going to hell, I do it because there are people in need and gods given me two working arms. It’s perspective and genuinely allowing everyone to grow and learn and love all on their own. I was taught that the stories in the Bible were written so long ago and translated so many times, that it’s unknown if they are solid truth or if they were metaphors. But we would always discuss the morals and reasonings behind them. That’s how I learned not to harm others, to cheat, ect. I wish more religious people were able to actually see what it was they were reading. It’s sadly human nature to blame things on whatever is easiest so far too many blame their horrific behavior on their religion. I hope you’re doing great and have a wonderful holiday season❤️

    • @bethwatters3885
      @bethwatters3885 4 роки тому

Mary Poppins thanks for your reply. Religion still causes more harm than good in my eyes when looking at history and current events. Also the churches pretty much as a whole support the GOP party on tax free income. The GOP do not support religious teachings so just another thing for me to say makes it a bad thing to get into. I do agree there are good religious people but I think as a whole religious people turn their cheeks at the most important things while demonizing ridiculous things they shouldn’t be involved in. I also think it’s ridiculous they don’t get taxed.

@@bethwatters3885 However, to just blame it on religion is a little disingenuous. In fact, many of the worst atrocities in history were perpetrated by people who did not believe in religion. I will leave Hitler out, because one could argue he was trying to make Nazism into a religion. However, Stalin killed way more people than Hitler did. In fact, being religious was a sure way to killed under Stalin. Mao killed and committed tons of atrocities as well. Pol Pot engaged in the killing fields, where they would kill babies even by swinging them by their feet so their head would hit a tree trunk. On the other hand, Mother Theresa dedicated her life to helping the poor in India. Martin Luther King preached non violence, equality and said he had a dream that we would all be brothers and sisters. The current Pope is a pretty good guy as well. I honestly think most horrific behavior throughout history has been based in greed and/or power. Religion is kind of like a gun, in that both are VERY dangerous if they are put to destructive ends but can be very useful if used properly.

I have a question that a lot of people have probably asked and I was very curious about I know in Christianity and the different Christian faiths they preached against homosexuality but with polygamy and having Sister Wives are the Sister Wives allowed to have intimate relationships with each other and pleasure each other sexually?

No. The sister wives only have a sexual relationship with their one husband.

I believe his words to those still in the religion (cult, factually) are obviously sincere. I only wish there was a way to get the message to them all. I keep thinking about the propaganda drops during WWII. Would it be possible to “airdrop” this type of information to them, in a sense? For all of those too afraid or too brainwashed to get on the internet to see this? I think so many members secretly feel exactly as he did and does. Man, I wish there was a clever way to mass distribute this type of reality on them and possibly help some find the truth.
