It's very clear you have roots in the music. I've been transcribing conga solos and listening to timbale solos for phrasing ideas still no where near it. You have the feel for sure. I could listen to you solo on the instrument all day I bet you could really do a lot with all your skills your amazing!
Does anyone know of some teachers who play Funk and Latin mixed on Timbales with a bass drum as well? I am interested in mixing Latin sounds with funk without having a full drum kit, but still standing up playing... Wanna find some teachers in cross genres with Timbales... Thanks!
Sounds great, Rick! Question: how do you decide what sticking to use for these exercises? Is there a general principle you're following or are you just making decisions in the moment as you play through the charts?
Most of these stickings are improvised and learned through a combination of rudimental studies and drum set studies. There are no rules, but you will definitely want to study some hand technique if you play timbales.
I really appreciate you taking the time to make such a comprehensive video with charts and demonstrations! Keep ‘em coming!
Blessings!
Marvelous stuff!
You have your own flow on the timbales I am feel it. 🔥🔥🔥🔥
