I didn't hear a mention of how Vollering is already 1:16 down mid stage. I think that development is important enough to explain.
Movistar had a car up ahead that signaled significant wind, so they planned a team attack to create echelons. Shortly before that, Vollering and Vas went for a sanitary break while Femke Markus had a flat tyre. The peloton quickly dropped a group of riders, and the race jury ordered the cars to stay behind. Now the small group with Vollering had a serious gap and no cars to return to the peloton. Vas and Markus pulled until the foot of the first big climb, and Vollering was on her own after that.
@@peterslegers6121 It's a real shame to lose a race because of bathroom break. Now vollering became a second TOM DUMULULIN.
@@user-ge2bh4zd5s Tom still won despite the bathroom brake.
@@peterslegers6121 no she wasn't, she had rueser.
@@sudsehun76 I was filling in the blanks and told you she was alone at the first mountain. In this clip we see her riding alone, untill she gets to the group with Reusser. Marlen didn´t drop back. So she rode alone up and down the Alto de Fuente de las Baras, some 20 km, before she catched up with the chase group on the Puerto de Campo el Hayal.
So Movistar "put the hammer down" and next is Vollering having a gap over a minute. Wait what? I just couldn't figure it out in these highlights.
There were strong winds today, a split happened in the peloton and Vollering got caught out behind the split which just continued to grow
@@grey_fox7 She and others got caught out because they did a sanitary break...
Putting "the hammer down" is the exvlusive perogative of the happy dead fish. 😂
I thought the same thing. There’s an unfortunate lack of detail in these highlights from GCN that occurs only in the women’s highlights.
It’s cool that others responded to your comment and explained. But it’s not good enough from GCN. It’s not improving either.
@@jasonjohnson9072 I suspect this is as much the fault of the host broadcaster because GCN usually show whatever footage is available. Even on the GCN full replay the split has already happened, the coverage starts with 48km to go and Vollering is already 1m20 behind. The coverage of Women’s cycling has improved a lot but it’s not from km 0 like it would be if this was a men’s race so there’s room for improvement. It seems crazy when the camera crews are there already. I remember the Women’s TDF last year, on the crucial stage, Annemiek vV had already flown up the road by the coverage started!
How do you start the highlights already after vollerin is already over 1min down? How did it happen?
The story is lost. Really poor highlights.
She went for a bathroom break with otter cyclist. On that moment movistar start to pace the peloton. That s how she lost 1min
I know what I'll be watching tomorrow: La Vuelta Femenina, and only switching to the Giro when that finishes. The Giro stage tomorrow is so flat it's unlikely anything significant will happen before the final few kilometers.
Why was vollering behind? What actually happened? Most important part of the race wasnt on the screen unfortunately. Happened quite a lot last season on the womens world tour, too :(
Will the tdf will be complete coverage?😮
Yes they did a terrible job at explaining it
@@JonathanvG-wj1ro the gcn casters probably didnt know either. I See this more of an race organizers fault.
@@lucaschafer6742 This was well known during the race already.
@@JonathanvG-wj1ro... oh well. Damn :D
They did say on eurosport. Vollering went for a piss. No joke.
Seriously? You didn't even discuss the most important thing that happened in the entire race? Come on. That's inexcusable.
Bravissima, Gaia !
Amazing racing 🎉
Thank you
Realini and van vleuten.
What a pairing!
Where can I watch 7 stage live ?
How did they take so long to award the stage to Realini...a simple pause around the 4:00 mark clearly shows her wheel on the line, and VV's slightly behind.
AVV with the tomahawk.
Wow, what an amazing and exciting race. Seeing Gaia Realini having her very deserved grand tour stage win almost made me tear up. It's amazing to see her ride and I love how she is shaking up the field with many people still underestimating her 😊
100% agree. from km 2 until the last 300m, I did not think she could do that sprint, but holy moly Realini opened it up in what is NOT her strong suit. Major KUDOS.
What a monster
Gaia is going to ride herself into a podium tomorrow. Book it
It’s great to see more recognition going to women and their events.
Lagos de Covadonga is very hard Climb of de World, misthic, epic, Catholic Santuary... Vollering attack and will win... Fantastic Vuelta
Media keep talking about the photo finish and now about how it went back and forth, but we don't get to see the photo? Why not?
Realini gave a master class in how to throw the bike.
Realini gave a master class on how to be a wheel sucker
It would be awesome to see the photo finish. Does it exist? Let's do some investigative reporting there, GCN. Is the Vuelta too cheap to set one up at for the race? Thanks
And if there was stage trophy presentation
By pausing this video at the right moment, one can see Realini's front wheel a centimeter or two in front of AVV's at the finish line.
Dutch lady's dominating this Vuelta... I am very proud as a Dutchman.
Make that the past 7 seasons ...
Proper stage tomorrow! AVV surely?
She just kept 9 seconds for La Vuelta victory on Picos de Europa !
elbow flick at 1:33
hmm, I couldn't find the live race on GCN+.
In US, Peacock was streaming
Sdworx tactics cost them the vuelta. I dont understand why they're not pulling to close down the gap in the final climb.
How do you change your ultimate decision twice as well .. absolute shitshow
Amazing Sprint by Realini! Major KUDOS for that massive 200meter effort!
After sitting in the wheel the whole time...
@@JonathanvG-wj1ro What's your point?
@@delldelljb8344 The point is that the sprint is not that amazing if you basically do the same sprint to the millimeter even though you have been sitting in the wheel the whole time. How is that hard to understand?
@@JonathanvG-wj1ro So a pure climber using strategy to beat a stronger sprinter for the win isn't amazing? Crazy how many racing "fans" don't know anything about tactics. Race smarter not harder.
@@JonathanvG-wj1ro If Chris Foome sat in the wheel of Mark Cavendish and won the sprint to the line, it would be just as impressive for Froome.
Honestly, 2km to the line, I did not think Realini had it in her, but sheesh, what an effort. You saw it on the line, her bike throw was much more than AVV and her sprint was controlled and straight while AVV was wobbling on her effort.
Realini earned that win like a Champ!
Damn, crazy performance by Movistar to be able to drop Demigod off their wheels that early on.
Toilet breaks cost race wins! LOL
Terrible that the entire race isnt streamed, or even included in the highlights
check Peacock if you are in the US. They will host then entire last 2 hours of racing
Cycling enthusiast UA-cam channel
GCN+ has the full stream, but for these races there isn't start-to-finish coverage. That's out of GCN's hands.
So the point where Movistar attacked while the race leader was on a nature break (an unwritten rule Movistar loves to violate) happened before there was any coverage.
@@TreyGruel Jumbo and Trek also helped to pull. In last year's Tdff Sd Worx did similar tactics so get your story straight.
"A win is a win" some say but how you win is what earns you praise. I can't say Realini did much to earn my respect beyond her initial effort to get on AVVs wheel.
nice to see van vleuten bossing it
blood bags

It's a shame that another story overshadowed Realini's first World Tour win - likely the first of many.
This whole tour was invalidated by this stage. Inexcusable violation of etiquette.
The reason why camera couldn't capture the moment vollering dropped was because she went to bathroom break. When vollering went to bathroom, movistar started to pull the peloton hard and that made a change of the leader jersey. What a DESPICABLE win for movistar!
It was a revence for the attack last year when she had a flat tyre.
movistar are playing sd worx's game. dn't hate the player.
And why did no moviestar helper make it into the leading group? I m really disappointed Lippert is so far off.
@@nicolas2838 wdym, lippert isn't the leader for movistar. she already lost time yesterday. today she did full effort leadout so annemiek could launch her attack.
@@sudsehun76I know, but I thought/hoped she could become captain next season. And now we have had two really disappointing stages. Even she was pulling hard, her captain did pull for 50km alone
Tomorrow the final stage. BEWARE THE REVENGE OF DEMI! 😎 Come on Demi! You know you can do it. And AVV? She gave way too much today!
Never underestimate what avv can do just look at world's last year.
AVV brought her blood bag to stage 6. there's not gonna be any blood only watery eyes of demi.
She will never pull back that 1 min from annemiek
Oops my bad.
Is there a reason cycling is so opposed to just calling it a draw when it’s that close?
Robbery
that was very dumb of canyon to pull with sdworx. kasia never disappoints to do dumb moves. also, more and more u get to see how manipulative demi vollering is. it's scary.
Yet she gets away with it. She Manipulates teammates as well as other teams riders.
Please explain ...
@@JoostMehrtens Says the Belgian
@@willyengland well, sd worx pulled over sometime before 50K cos demi needed to pee so annemeik picks her moment and steps on the throttle. meanwhile, kasia paying for her aggressive racing throughout the week gets dropped but luckily for her, so do other riders close to her in GC. she had no one infront who's a GC threat so she can either work together and try to catch up to them on sit up. but they do nothing and just let vollering catch up and for some reason canyon sram thought it was a good idea to help vollering in her GC contention even though none of her closest GC rivals are contributing to the chase... and she's wasting energy for nothing... and tmr is supposed to be the toughest stage and she will definitely pay for this effort tmr. i've seen kasia do these kinda dumb moves time and again. she's been doing it less since magnus joined the helm but still.
@@JoostMehrtens thank you. finally someone who sees it too.
Realini sucked on Annemieks wheel the whole way like a coward and still her win was debatable. Good win for the talented youngster nonetheless.
"Like a coward" ... calm down, she's a rookie riding against the current world champion and one of the greatest female racers of all time. She's trying to play it smart.
@@justridingalongthewatchtower maybe that was a bit harsh and she was likely under team orders but that style of racing is never appreciated in the peleton. Great breakout year for the rookie. By the way annemieks not one of the greatest she is the greatest.
@@JaemanEdwardsAVV was after a GC victory so it's on her to pull, this scenario plays out all the time... the rider looking for a stage shouldn't be contributing much work if they're smart. Vos is the 🐐 , not AVV.

Annemiek was descending with 12 kms to go after dropping everyone but superclimber Mara Abbot (USA) up a brutal jungle climb. She had a 1 min gap over the chasing group comprised of three legends
Emma Johansson (SWE)
Elisa Longo Borghini (ITA)
Anna Van Der Breggen (NED)
With AVDB sitting on and AVV being a renowned time trialist she was in prime position. She was pulling away from Abott on the dangerous treacherous blind corners made even more so by earlier rain. The gold medal was in the bag when suddenly she took a bad line into a corner too fast, braked hard and went over the top slamming her spine into a huge curb. She lay motionless on the side of the road. Anna Van Der Breggen won gold that day in an exiting chase down of Mara Abott along the Rio coastline.
That should have been Annemieks gold medal. And I'm betting that if she was not injured she would have won gold in the time trial as well.
By rights Annemiek Van vleuten should be sitting on 4 Olympic Gold medals
