I enjoyed your video and suggestions. Finding Margaret Fuller sounds interesting. I just finished The Back of the Turtle by Thomas King and I enjoyed it a lot.
Thanks! You two are always so fun and interesting! I recently read The High Mountains of Portugal by Yann Martel. Fascinating. Quirky. Need to have my book club read and have a big ol’ discussion about it. I loved it.
I just finished Greenwood by Michael Christie and loved it. My son had read it and recommended it to me. We had a great “book club” discussion over the phone! ( he lives in Connecticut in Book Cougars territory ) I’m now reading You Only Call When You’re in Trouble by Stephen McCauley and I’m enjoying it! Thanks for all you do!😊
I want to recommend two great audiobooks I’ve listened to this month
The Bandit Queens
Greta & Valdin
I’m also now listening to another great book
Hello Beautiful
I’m having a good run of great reading. In January I had 4 books that were 4.5/5 star reads
North Woods
Tom Lake
How To Build A Boat by Elaine Feeney ☘️
Falling Animals by Sheila Armstrong ☘️
A couple years ago I saw Mrs. Caliban adapted as a play. The sea creature's custome was reminiscent of the Creature from the Black Lagoon. It was perfect for the time period of the book. My son was a high school senior at the time. It was a lovely evening seeing the play and spending the whole car ride home discussing/arguing about it! I'm currently reading some of the titles on the Republic of Consciousness (US/Canada) long list. I looooved Breaking and Entering. The protagonist is a 50 year old woman who finds some agency in her life when she learns to pick locks.
I'm listening to Divine Rivals (Letters of Enchantment) by Rebecca Ross (excellent, so far). And am reading Being Henry: The Fonz and Beyond by Henry Winkler.
Alison Pataki is coming to Northshire, so I think I’m going to get a signed copy of her Margaret Fuller book. I’m going to tell my sister about “The Miller’s Daughter.” My current nonfiction read is Ben Mezrich’s “Once Upon a Time in Russia.”
I'm reading The Fox Wife by Yangtze Choo. A bit of a mystery plus historical fiction, it's interesting but I wish it was a bit more fast-paced.
Quick question -- did the miller's daughter ever finish her PhD? The cookbook is on my "To Buy" list as is the Margaret Fuller book. I like the Transcendentalist writers. Does your son's mill have a cookbook?
