Hi Paula , Good tips and I'm sure you see some classics! Speaker impedance is a big issue and I am always telling my subscribers not to go under 8 ohm's . A lot of people don't realise the damage you can do . Another one often overlooked is LED current, it is not hard to go over the 100ma function output limit if you choose the wrong resistor value! . Great job on these tech tips! Cheers Gregg.
I use rubbing alcohol to clean the flux off solder joints. I use 70 percent. Should I be using a higher percentage? Thanks for the informative videos and great technical support.
That's one thing I hate is soldering. I know it will be cheaper but I'll feel more comfortable having a professional do it. If not I'll just go on with out sound.
There is not just one brand that will work. Just make sure it is an electronics grade flux. You can get a good flux from Digikey. Search Chipquik flux syringe. I believe it’s about $12. The stuff we use is a bit more expensive and flows clear. Here’s the stuff George uses at home: www.digikey.com/product-detail/en/chip-quik-inc/SMD291NL/SMD291NL-ND/1160000 It’s about $12 per ‘syringe’ The stuff we have here is Alpha OM-338. You can search online or here’s a link to a random website: www.solderconnection.com/P1186/ALPHA-OM338-LEAD-FREE-FLUX-GEL.html Because it’s an industrial use flux, most of the links want you to contact them for quotes.
We will take this into consideration, but we do not have a wide variety of locomotives sitting around waiting for installs. For more immediate help with this install please contact our Support Department: soundtraxx.com/contact/technical-support
Great tips
Thank you
great tips for sure.
Thank you
Hi Josh/Paula, thank you for the video I will share with my audience 👍
Thank you!
Were those people using a plumbers torch to solder those decoders ?
We see some crazy stuff!

That should be fine. Just make sure the locomotive or decoder is not powered up while cleaning and let it sit for 5 minutes before powering up.

We have many retailers that offer install services!
What IS the right flux by brand name?

@@bufordhart730 Thank you! We try to do everything we can for our customers. We appreciate you!
Good info. Proof that there should be a license requirement to buy or use a soldering iron!
Haha. Sometimes soldering can be a little tricky, but it is easier than a lot of people think. Just make sure to take your time and do it right!
Hi. Good to see the examples. What steps do you recommend for cleaning XS flux from decoders. Thanks, Kennedy
Alcohol and a cotton swab. Just make sure the locomotive or decoder is not powered up while cleaning and let it sit for 5 minutes before powering up.
Ho-lee-crap.....this is insanity...are there really people that clumsy???
Some people have a hard time soldering and some people just have not been taught the correct methods. There are all real life examples.
