Hope this interview helps some new truck drivers out there. Alot of great advise in this video from a 20 year plus exp. truck driver.
Do you go every month to Palm Beach Cars and Coffee, I’ve brought my STI swapped 98 GC8 Subaru Impreza Coupe many times as I’m out of Palm Bay, but never seen you there with the Z32?
That depends. What’s the cost of being home every night, weekends off, and holidays. The ability to have a real life while being a driver. To me it’s worth about 70k a year. That’s the pay cut I took to be home every night. To be a father and a husband. I still make good money, and so does my wife. My family is happy and my marriage is sound and strong. How many OTR drivers can say the same? Giant bank accounts and empty lives. No thanks.
If you have a family and owe money, it's understandable why some truckers might complain about making money while driving. If you're single with low or no financial obligations, get your CDL, you can make and save money; as long as you're not recklessly spending it. Don't let other truckers, who are miserable, scare you away from the trade.
This is the truth. I've been only driving for 4 years, working on my 5th. Single, no children. Getting a cdl in my early 30s was one of the best decisions I ever made. Last year I managed six figures as a dry van/refer company schmuck. Granted I practically live out of the truck sometimes but I managed to save up, pay off debts and invest more money then I ever had in my life. Am I rich? Nope. Am I in a better financial situation then I ever have been? Hell yeah.
Trucking's hard and the hours are long but I always remind myself that I'm in the same income bracket as mid level lawyers and medical doctors, stressful careers that also feature long hours but with added years of study and $100,000 + student loan debt. A lot of people don't realize that if you want to be rich, you're going to have to start your own business or invest. No one ever got rich working for someone else.

I am Brazilian and I work as a trucker here in my country. Its the same history, for a humble guy, no wife, no Kids I make a lot of money also as I live on the truck I dont have much montly expenses.
But that its my reality, each trucker has its own history.
So true I was able put away 30k in 3 to 4 months
I saved a bundle so far
He said a key phrase " you gotta be stupid to drive a truck for pennies" unfortunately many do, making it bad for everyone else, and they think they are great business people. I am happy to see a responsible driver.
50 CPM is good pay.
I couldn't agree more!!!
@RedRedred-ld4pb You are being coy? Right? I hope!
@@RedRedred-ld4pbif you live in the 80s 90s maybe, nowadays it is not good.
@@BM-if9zneven back then it was substandard living. Today? Just live in your semi and have no home, wife, life or anything that makes life worth living!
I’m a local came from WM to O/O and I enjoyed being a O/O more freedom and make my own schedule.. A company guy at WM get up at 3-4 am and work 13 hours ,by time you come home is take a bath and go to sleep. No life…You see your family everyday but thats all you going to do. No energy for nothing else… 💪🏽
Just because it’s dead for u doesn’t mean it’s dead for me……… owner op best job in America..👌🏿👌🏿👌🏿👌🏿
😂 true true
Agreed. Bazinga Trucking
@@Trendsetta_2000 take that OG advice about ..."if it was bad there would be a ton of drivers" .... Some people don't know when to throw in the towel. They hang on, and get into debt while trying to barely hold on .... While hands are bleeding... Until they can't hold on anymore (case in point: your O/O turned company driver) .... People are still losing their shirts as I type this, while some of us who know the game are still standing. All I can say is learn to read between the lines...
@@Trendsetta_2000 if trucking is just a "hobby" then my advice is not for you. I hope you have enough money to burn for this "hobby"
@@Trendsetta_2000 ok. I'll stay in my lane while you keep talking to failed O/O turned company drivers LMAO 🤣
Sweet watching a driver own his pre-trip and hook-up. Give him a raise.
Trucking is what you make it. It is a great stepping stone. OG spit some cool game.
Lets goo
I appreciate listening to these old timers.
Blue collar.......shaped this country. Respect and blessing to y'all truckin right
i literally quit trucking for good and make more $$$ at Amazon Air now. Truck drivers definitely deserve better pay but so do teachers and nurses too!!!
They say if you love what you do, you never work a day in your life. They never said anything about the stress 😂❤😂❤❤
Love this Driver..Real Deal straight up. Educated and Good Wisdom..
When experienced talks people listen..Good looking ..OG
Wow ! This was great footage . I got so much insight and awareness . I know nothing about doubles etc
Them old timers are gonna move on someday and the younger folks like you and me Alex will have to take over. So it's good to have videos like this to show younger folks like us what real work is and that someone is gonna have to do it.
💯 agree!!! At this point im documenting trucking in a video time capsule
48’ Doubles is a whole other world … Damn
Thats like a damn train!!!!

@@wmg33 - I see “Triples” all of the time on I-80 East and West in Ohio, but they’re small trailers
Ive never seen this before in Atlanta area.
Drivers now that come from other countries get so much help from the government that they pull cheap freight and work for Amazon. I've been a independent contractor for 5 years, I cant pull loads from brokers that pay under $1.70 a mile or I'll be out quick on my backhauls. If I didn't get fuel discounts, it would cost me about $2000 more a month in fuel. So many brokers nowadays are putting the FSC in the rates, they need to seperate it nation wide. I mainly stay in the Midwest where they actually pay the FSC.
Can you back up your claim? How do you know if they're getting help from government
My first job out of school was Pepsi co. Having OTR experience is golden but not your only choice starting off
He is pretty cool and a hard worker doing good with his cash😊
Driving doubles, what a beast. Im a new truck driver and im trying to get doubles and hazmat endorsement hopefully soon.
He's speaking straight serious game!😁🙏
I worked over 40 years I don't work anymore but this man got it right. It makes a big difference to work with people with good 👍 attitudes

Smart man💪🏾
This man spits knowledge!!!
Hey I am doing good at cdl school . Not hitting any cones
Driver’s Thank you!❤❤❤❤
My advice for someone trying to be a truck driver is to get with a reputable local trucking company and gain your experience local first with a more guaranteed paid and work schedule. Some even do long haul so look at your options and do your job flawlessly. The thing with trucking, it has to be in your DNA first and foremost or you'll have a hard time grasping the life of a trucker. Most companies require their drivers to be flawless and preemptive. The industry is very unforgiving and non complimenting. The risk and skill one needs should be worth considerably more then what is giving especially considering the need for good drivers and the importance of getting goods to customers. Very under appreciated profession and you gotta know that and find solice within your own success. Be respectful and patient and love what you do and you'll never work a day in your life 🤙🏽🇺🇲
Local is back breaking underpaid slave work. Especially food. Those guys deserve a $500 a week pay raise at least
Haul poultry feed to farms. Easiest local job
I haul fuel… in 2023 $280k gross on 1 truck..
@@Trtrucking79so many questions. 😂
It's hard work but the pay is great with the trite company
Now a days it’s comparable to never being home days on end.. might not be working as hard but just as much of a slave then the person working hourly with OT and being able to atleast lay in your own bed at night
I would never do food service, work smarter not harder
If it's drop and hook why not
Nice content, pulling double 53's is tuff and dangerous. Gotta be vigilant. Thanks for the share.
Appreciate you too. Trying to have more segments than just the news updates
This man is doing it right. No idea how many nights spent at truck stops over the last decade it's actually rare to see guys check lights, tires, etc. Next video is how road assist charges so much. Not all but, many issues could be seen at the start of the day. Breaking from o/op with one next to my shop getting it legal while w2. Last truck crapped out despite thousands to the shop. Younger guy leaves trucks on E, no def, doesn't slide axles ticking main customers off often. Take it serious n save some is such great advice on top of be professional as trained. This guy is a asset to his company. Good interview 👍
I love this man reminds. ME of my granddaddy . From NC 🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸❤️🦋

Hope these lights get me through
White mix in blue.
Winter make u hope to make through.
I’ve been telling this to drivers for years specially the ones that haul Chemical tanks the end of the year companies get ready for their tax season, so October 31. The bottom falls out if you don’t have money in the bank or save back it’s gonna be rough till about February, spend your money wisely😎😎🚛💯
Muther:I don't want to take your time
The driver:don't worry I won't let you
Trucking business is great.
It’s hard when you have one truck paying for everything

50/25/25. If you structure your lifestyle as 50% of your Net income goes towards your need to live expenses, 25% of your Net income for want to have expenses and 25% of your Net income goes towards Saving for investments income; there’s nothing stopping you from financial independence. 🎉
Grown man business! 😮😮 Stay Safe!
Up movement mi general right now a shuttle me running just local
I run local for a liquor & wine company. I work four days a week, you definitely have to work for Food or a Beverage company.
Anything local, you're gonna have to work, LTL is nice but it's long hours, name of the game.
Definitely would like to become an O/O running local one day, yall stay safe out there. 🤟
Yes sir you are right 20yrs this year 100,000 home every day 💯
I love his attitude
I have a degree in computer science and those jobs are averaging 65k if you have no degree you are looking at less than 40k not a lot of jobs pay well. Trucking does have an unlimited potential privided that you are OO with a fuel whosale account which would require a Diesel ⛽ gas tank and pump which many areas including rural are not permitted for it. And if you have a good mechanic and a Raider account and Insurance that covers tows you are good to go.
That’s cool truck drivers don’t get appreciate now an days
I’m local 282 Teamsters Ny we do heavy construction local my whole package is 108 an hour haha weekends off
Ooh look at my uncle🎉🎉
Very good one
Respect
I wince watching him do all that hookup without wearing gloves. Lot of those crank handles are pretty scabby and will cut you up pretty quickly.
The answer to your question is yes, it’s best to drive local. If you have the experience, the longer you stay away from home the more money you spend.

superbe train double aux usa . en europe ,quelques pays les ont mais en longueur limitée
No reflectors on ur Dollys Mudflaps..
A man's local now his truck sitting right out the door making $24 an hour killing his self😢

Gotta make money to save money.
Doubles is easy
I passed him in flrida and waved after I saw this.
Who hooks a set without gloves?
Need to interview me alex, for real brother
Truck drivers need to Unionize.
Hi Alex
Saving money is easy when you making 6, 7, 10, 12 grand a week or more. It ain't easy when you've made that kind of money but then those high dollar loads dry up you have back to back repair issues, fuel goes up, insurance goes up, inflation rate goes through the roof, life itself gets more expensive to just exist but the money you use to male ain't coming in no more. It's easy for you that are doing well now to look down on us that are struggling untill it happens to you.
It’s a simple yes or no lol
I like what he said but he's arrogant and quality foods out of commercial truck yard he's broke too.!!!!! He should've went with McLane
He's a smart mouth disguised a informative source. Real men are out going.
Dude is by the book.. lol
