That depends. What’s the cost of being home every night, weekends off, and holidays. The ability to have a real life while being a driver. To me it’s worth about 70k a year. That’s the pay cut I took to be home every night. To be a father and a husband. I still make good money, and so does my wife. My family is happy and my marriage is sound and strong. How many OTR drivers can say the same? Giant bank accounts and empty lives. No thanks.

If you have a family and owe money, it's understandable why some truckers might complain about making money while driving. If you're single with low or no financial obligations, get your CDL, you can make and save money; as long as you're not recklessly spending it. Don't let other truckers, who are miserable, scare you away from the trade.

This is the truth. I've been only driving for 4 years, working on my 5th. Single, no children. Getting a cdl in my early 30s was one of the best decisions I ever made. Last year I managed six figures as a dry van/refer company schmuck. Granted I practically live out of the truck sometimes but I managed to save up, pay off debts and invest more money then I ever had in my life. Am I rich? Nope. Am I in a better financial situation then I ever have been? Hell yeah.
Trucking's hard and the hours are long but I always remind myself that I'm in the same income bracket as mid level lawyers and medical doctors, stressful careers that also feature long hours but with added years of study and $100,000 + student loan debt. A lot of people don't realize that if you want to be rich, you're going to have to start your own business or invest. No one ever got rich working for someone else.

Drivers now that come from other countries get so much help from the government that they pull cheap freight and work for Amazon. I've been a independent contractor for 5 years, I cant pull loads from brokers that pay under $1.70 a mile or I'll be out quick on my backhauls. If I didn't get fuel discounts, it would cost me about $2000 more a month in fuel. So many brokers nowadays are putting the FSC in the rates, they need to seperate it nation wide. I mainly stay in the Midwest where they actually pay the FSC.

My advice for someone trying to be a truck driver is to get with a reputable local trucking company and gain your experience local first with a more guaranteed paid and work schedule. Some even do long haul so look at your options and do your job flawlessly. The thing with trucking, it has to be in your DNA first and foremost or you'll have a hard time grasping the life of a trucker. Most companies require their drivers to be flawless and preemptive. The industry is very unforgiving and non complimenting. The risk and skill one needs should be worth considerably more then what is giving especially considering the need for good drivers and the importance of getting goods to customers. Very under appreciated profession and you gotta know that and find solice within your own success. Be respectful and patient and love what you do and you'll never work a day in your life 🤙🏽🇺🇲

This man is doing it right. No idea how many nights spent at truck stops over the last decade it's actually rare to see guys check lights, tires, etc. Next video is how road assist charges so much. Not all but, many issues could be seen at the start of the day. Breaking from o/op with one next to my shop getting it legal while w2. Last truck crapped out despite thousands to the shop. Younger guy leaves trucks on E, no def, doesn't slide axles ticking main customers off often. Take it serious n save some is such great advice on top of be professional as trained. This guy is a asset to his company. Good interview 👍

Trucking does have an unlimited potential privided that you are OO with a fuel whosale account which would require a Diesel ⛽ gas tank and pump which many areas including rural are not permitted for it. And if you have a good mechanic and a Raider account and Insurance that covers tows you are good to go.

It ain't easy when you've made that kind of money but then those high dollar loads dry up you have back to back repair issues, fuel goes up, insurance goes up, inflation rate goes through the roof, life itself gets more expensive to just exist but the money you use to male ain't coming in no more.
